So, at my high school, during any kind of assembly, there was almost always technical difficulties so we would be sitting in the auditorium in silence, and every single time, no matter what, someone would start singing this song and the entire student body joined in. It was really glorious.

I hope you get around to checking out AJ McLean "Boy and a Man". I think AJ has the best voice in backstreet but they are all super talented. AJ just has an insane amount of soul in his voice and I love his style!! So There's Brian Littrell, who sang first, Then Nick Carter sang second, then AJ McLean ( he has the soulful voice, you like him) sang third, Kevin Richardson (Baritone) sang forth, and Howie Dorough (Falsetto) sang last. Most of the time the lead singers are Brian, Nick and AJ. It depends on who the group thinks sounds better with the lead vocals to a particular song. They decide that collectively. Brian has been diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia so his singing is not what it used to be, sadly. I think they got some hate. I don't know why some people really love to hate on the boy bands, I don't understand it. They are all extremely talented and no one can take that away from them. They got more love than hate though. They are hugely successful, are still together (28 years) and still going strong.

I think Brian- the one with the short darker blondish hair was the "lead" but I don't think any of them officially were. They all got turns to shine in so many songs which was really cool. This is my personal favorite BSB song and I loved this reaction! I was a kid when they were a hit, so I don't remember much but I think they got some of that typical boy band hate. idk why because maybe they weren't everyone's type of music which is fine, but to my knowledge they didn't do anything controversial

I think you’ve figured out who each voice is now but I still want to comment on your question about how they arrange their songs. Even in their newer songs they seem to follow a similar format about 90% of the time. Brian/Nick tend to sing the first verse either solo or together. Then the song will pick up and bit and in comes AJ with his big, beautiful voice (if you ever hear them live or watch concert footage you’ll learn that his voice can probably be heard from space!). A lot of the time Kevin or Howie sing the bridge and AJ will sing the last notes. Personally I think AJ has the best voice. I was already in my late teens/early 20s when they got popular so I wasn’t drawn in to Nick or Brian for the pop star cute looks. I think I only gave their music a shot because of AJ!

If you want to hear songs where each one get to shine Brian - pretty much everything since he's the primary lead singer and far and away the best singer in the group. But I'd go with "I'll Never Break Your Heart" and "If You Stay" - both of which he shares lead with AJ. AJ - Try, No One Else Comes Close (a cover of a Joe song. The original is better, but AJ really kills it here). Nick - The Way It Was, I Need You Tonight Howie - Breathe from DNA Kevin - Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely (which is the best song they ever made and remains the best showcase of all 5 vocalists' gifts)

No, there was no hate for the BSB. AJ, Brian, and Nick sang majority of the lines but Kevin and Howie had their lines in the songs. However, if you listen to them sing acapella - you will realize that Kevin and Howie are KEY to making that beautiful harmony. Without them the songs won't sound the same. That's why I love BSB - they ALL are talented and without one they wouldn't be the BSB.
