Geoff says when asked what VP would do if asked to sing for the President, it would be this. It's always very popular. Yes Geoff with short hair and a bow tie is how you'll see him in some earlier videos. :) I think he's improved with age. Interesting note: Earl hates that song. Tiny Tim ruined it for everybody but it's a sweet old song, done properly. Do try to see their Death of a Bachelor, you'll see Earl in a whole new light. I just love it.

One of my favourite VP pieces, really shows the fun side of the boys. It cannot be denied how far they have grown, especially Geoff. Part of it is because they keep challenging each other. Especially Layne when he arranges, he pushes Geoff to go lower and harder each time. This is how VoicePlay expressed their creative/theatrical side in the early days. Probably the worst of the several problems they had on the Sing-Off, was that these sorts of skits were how they mainly thought of themselves as a group, and that was how they were thinking of theatrics, and they didn't know how to turn it into the 3-4 minute pop songs that the show organizers seemed to want. So for example when the show handed them their ideal category ("movie song") on a silver platter, instead of doing the obvious thing (well, obvious in hindsight now) and going ok, let's do a half-pop-half-dubstep version of Poor Unfortunate Souls, or a K-pop influenced version of The Lonely Goatherd, or an R&B version of Singin' in the Rain, or even just a straight-up sung-in-harmony version of the number that the soldiers whistle in Bridge on the River Kwai, no, instead they just picked out a random movie that wasn't particularly noted for its music, picked out a song from it that nobody even cares about, and did the most forgettable thing ever. It's a song from a movie, and they sang it without instruments, so, it technically was what the show runners wanted, I guess? You can literally watch that performance, and ten minutes later not be able to remember what song they even did, it's that forgettable; this is why they lost. Fortunately, they moved on and got past that low point and are now doing wonderful things. (A good thing about their stint on the Sing-Off, is that being around the other groups that were on the show was apparently a good thing in a number of ways. Tim was a positive influence on Geoff, among other things.) Earl's performance is particularly notable or prominent in Queen, Boy Bands, and Moana.

That's interesting to know. I don't know and I never cared to research their participation in the Sing-Off. From today's perspective, I can see them easily winning that because they have such huge variety of songs and style that would appeal to a wide audience. It makes sense that they were a bit younger and less experienced back then and didn't always make the best choices. It's also interesting that Tim gave Geoff pointers when VP are older as a group than HF (1997 compared to 2001, right?) You know, all I care about is where they are now 😊

@@reallollabunny The network also demanded that they add a female singer. Originally they were going to use Rachel Potter who has collaborated with them many times and fits in really well. But she ended up on the X Factor as a finalist so they had to find someone else. In my opinion, while she has a great voice, she did not blend well at all with them. In most of the performances I saw featured her and they were just the background singers.

It's a travesty that Rachel had to be so talented that she got to the X Factor finals and couldn't help them win😁 but let's be honest, they would've been too OP with her in the mix. If you really want to experience Tony, watch The Phantom of the Opera. As happens, one member gets to be the leader of the song. Tony is the lead. If you love their more humorous bent, check out their The Chicken Song. It was filmed live at one of their performances by a fan.

This is from the Sing-Off tour and was Geoffs' brainchild. After this, you need to do "The Chicken Song" again with Tony Wakim so, so funny. Earl disappeared after he left the group. They never said why he left only that he left for personal reasons.

He went his own way, as far as I can find, stopped doing vocal stuff and focused on weightlifting. He was posting a lot on Instagram for a while but I didn't keep up with him as I am not using insta much at all. Earl Elkins Jr is his name so you can find him out there.

This is Geoff's brain child. Another comic side of VoicePlay is the full Chicken Song (also known as the Rooster Song). Same cast (make sure you get the one with Tony). It's an old Campfire Song or Scout song.

So glad you enjoyed this one. I laughed till i almost cried at times the first time I saw this. I am glad you got to see the young Geoff. He sure has changed visually as well as vocally. It was around this time that Tim Foust gave him some vocal exercises and helps that made him grow to the dragon breathing basement bass he is now. The difference is incredible. I am also just as amazed at how much of a rock master Eli was even then. They had so much fun doing this, and it showed. So much fun!

I can’t speak to Earl ever rejoining them, but Tony has addressed that fairly recently in a couple of Zoom chats. Although he did enjoy performing, he much prefers being behind the scenes. And he said he thinks he sees more of the VoicePlay guys now than when he was a member. (He’s on set for a lot of their shoots.) I have a feeling we’ll keep asking and maybe wear him down someday.

This was done as part of the Sing Off tour, eight or nine years ago. What did you look like back then? I can't say I've improved, but then I'm older than dirt. I didn’t appreciate Voiceplay enough when I headed into the Sing Off concert. Seeing this live was the thing that made me really start to appreciate them….and then it took years for me to fall back in love because they all have grown SO much. Especially since Home Free was after them, and they just KILLED it then.

In a chat that detoured to the topic of short vs long hair for Geoff, Kathy shared that back when VP was touring (pre-2017) and fans wanted a pic with the group, they would often hand their camera to Geoff. Pretty sure she did not mean as a selfie because of his long arms. I've often seen "adorkable" used to describe Geoff with short hair and a bow tie. They even joke during the outro of a video where he's wearing a bright pink bow tie (they're all wearing something pink) that it's brought to you by ... Pepto Bismol. Since they don't want to tour, I'm hoping VP will do a livestream concert. Wouldn't this skit be fun with Cesar in the backseat middle, and Ashley in the front?

Adam Rupp of Home Free has multiple stories of people mistaking him for a roadie or venue staff. Also the time he was standing right next to someone in an airport who looked right past him and exclaimed, "OMG, is that Tim Foust?! I love Home Free!" I think the best comment I've seen regarding Short Hair Geoff with a Bow Tie is that he's 'adorkable' and I find that so true! They have all definitely grown and keep pushing themselves to be better. I think Geoff is probably the most noticeable because he spent most of his early career doing base/rhythm/support, so he hadn't developed his solo voice nearly as much as the other guys had at this point. It seems like getting featured more over time, and especially doing his own channel, has really helped him to find his own sound. And of course, with the low notes, just getting older helps :D

I just have to comment again. Your laughter is contagious, I swear. The sibling vibe in their video is SO HIGH. Tony has a very nice voice. You can tell this is one of those road trips that starts VERY early in the morning and they're on the road before breakfast, so absolutely no one in that car is caffeinated yet. @@dj_410 Honey was with them for the Sing-off because they got told they needed a female singer. They had asked Rachel Potter, but she was doing another singing competition at the time, so they brought in Honey. VoicePlay vs Home Free Survivor was a song that they had recorded as their song for if they ended up going up against Home Free at the end of an episode, but when VP got eliminated, they hadn't used the song. But they liked it enough that they worked with HF to get a video recorded. It's HILARIOUS, and I highly recommend doing a reaction to it.

He left because of personal issues that had more to do with his health. Earl has known Geoff and Layne for a long time as he was one of the original members
