Look into Underwood, American Gunner, Lehigh and Civil Liberty Defense for great .380 ACP carry ammo. Ammo choice is EXTREMELY important for the .380 round, doubly so when you have a shorter barrel, although the Walther P380 is a bit longer than most .380s that I would consider carrying.

Just a face lift of the old PK380. Needed a double stack mag upgrade. The grips are huge and could easily accommodate a larger capacity.

I swapped my original Sig P365 9mm for the 380 version as well. I'm perfectly happy with a 380 defensive round and while I have a Ruger LCP Max and Glock 42, I shoot my Sig P365-380 much better than those two. While this Walther is not a small and light as the Sig, I will have to try one out and see if I like it enough to add to my rotation.

I think you mean, irrelevant. This can come in double stack due to thckness but instead is just a facelift of an old gun. Pdp has high bore axis and terrible barrel design that increases recoil for a few fps gain. Trigger and ergos dont mean jack if it shoots bad with low round count.

I have the PK380 and have had it for several years. Polymer frame cast slide. Not a perfect pistol, but really smal und fairly accurate at short distances. I use it for competitions from 15m down to 5m. Racking the slide, when the hammer is dropped is harder, but if the hammer is cocked and the slide then racked, it´s easy. @@Shadow__133 When putting in time at the range, I find it way more pleasant, fun even, to load a single stack mag vs a double stack (even with a maglula loader). When you consider that the average shooting is resolved between 2-4 rounds within 7 yards, having a 15-round capacity doesn't seem so important. If 10 rounds of .380 defensive ammo center of mass don't solve your problem, then you need to get the bigger gun from your truck. But different strokes for different folks. Some people carry six-shot revolvers, and if that's what they're going to train with and be competent at, then more power to them.

There really wasn't any options for Micro 9s at the time so I picked up this gun as soon as it hit the streets. It was soft shooting, light, and accurate, but it just wasn't completely reliable, even with ball ammo. As much as I wanted to like it, I sold it off and went back to my jframe until the Ruger SR9c and later SW Shield came out.

I LOVE MY PDP Compact. This looks like it. I don't think the optics cut really matters that much in a low profile deep cover gun. It just adds bulk and to me this kind of gum is more for the 10 yard gun. It looks like this is aimed at the deep carry space. I also love my P30sk and I get really great accuracy from it. I like hammer fired carry guns because they are less susceptible to limp wristing and you get 2nd strike. I know exactly what they were going for and I think they nailed it. This is more like the LC9S or the Shield EZ or the Bodyguard but smaller and more for sensitive shooters or new shooters. It is designed to be low drag. In my experience all Walthers are well thought out and high quality. I never experienced a Walther I didn't like and the PDP is outstanding.

I love the way my PDP Compact shot, I gave up my PDP for a Security-380 this addresses pretty much all the issues I had with the PDP as an EDC. For me it's the grip length, the 10 rd mag with the pinky extension on my Ruger is the lower limit, the 80x grip was too small form me, but the PK380 was ok, so I'm wondering where this falls.... is this just a re-skinned PK ?

Was really hoping for a pocket .380, kind of the saving grace of the cartridge is you can get it in a pocket, imagine like an lcp max but made by Walther? I think it'd be cool

I love the resurgence of larger 380 pistols. Without having handled this firearm, I feel a negative is the manual of arms is not transferable to other firearms. Like scootch states, it’s mostly for inexperienced shooters. I would prefer my wife to have something with a slide stop, standard thumb safety so it translates better as she grows. Got her a Security 380, but the ergos on this PD look much nicer.

Cute firearm and well designed, however I think that most people, (women especially) will not like this pistol, even though it is light on recoil. Light recoil does not compensate for a nearly "10 Pound trigger" OMG thats a deal breaker for most recoil sensitive shooters. I do love the design otherwise. Thnx so much for this great review, as always.!! :)

Why oh why did Walther put a doggone manual safety lever on a PDP?? And what's the deal w/them making a hammer-fired PDP??? I'm a bit of a Walther fan-boy, but they sure are making it difficult for me to REMAIN a fan. Looks like I'll have to stick to my old tried & true G42 🤠

This is an interesting firearm for sure, I was on the Walther subreddit and many users there disliked it a lot and seemed to miss the point. They thought that if it wasn't what they expected it couldn't be for any other market. I think these larger .380 ACP caliber handguns are great for all sorts of people who lack confidence, grip strength or even time to practice diligently to control for recoil. This is meant to compete with the Shield 380 EZ and Security 380. Personally for my first handgun, if I could do it again something like this I would have gotten. Shame that Smith and Wesson didn't make their Shield Plus in .380 ACP but instead 30 SC.

It is meant to be a 380 Shield EZ and Security-380 competitor. The problem is that Walther's marketing team would rather make a James Bond short than accurately advertise what the gun is. This thing is most certainly not built to be a "covert carry" gun like they want to pretend it is.

I’d like to know how it feels compared to the original PK380. The PK always felt a bit less solid and serious compared to Walther other guns; like it was more Umarex BB gun compared to a P99 which feels duty-ready.

Walther can thin out the grip and do at least 16 round magazine. Same with CCP M2 - the grip is so thick you can use it for nailing and chopping wood.

I have a PK380. If they offered this with a real decocker, like a PPK or P99, I would buy one now. I also wonder, since Walther is supposed to be offering the PPK and PPK/S in .32 ACP, if they offered this in .32, would it be a 10+1?

**They still didn't make it with an adequate magazine capacity for such sized gun. **The Ruger LCP Max is much smaller and has a better magazine capacity. **Walther just keeps missing the boat. Just like on their 22 wimp. **And while I like the lever magazine release that is ambidextrous, there is no ambidextrous slide release. **Wait they did away with a slide release totally? **Not sure I like that idea. **It might be something in the long run that I might actually like but, the fact of the pathetic magazine capacity means I'm not even going to try it.

mag cap wasn't their only goal, and technically it fits right in between the EZ and the Security-380. and honest, studies and stats have shown in an incident a shooter dumps, most of if not All of their mag, at that point, you are just burning money and in the case of an assaulter, the caliber doesn't matter after receiving 2/3/4 shots

@@quinnmclaughlin7537 have you ever watched the video Deadly Effects on KZbin. Put on by people that got an awful lot more experience than you. And sometimes even 10 rounds of a minimum caliber isn't enough against a determined foe. **And if they're on meth, PCP or cocaine/ethylene (would fentanyl also be in that category) or wearing body armor or multiple perps, 10 rounds just ain't going to cut it. **When I went through police training in the 90s the statistics at that time were **1/3 of your opponents will be wearing body armor (and it's much more prevalent now than it was then) **also about the same amount chance of there being multiple perps. **So that means roughly 2/3 of a chance, (if they don't overlap) that you need more firepower than you I think you're going to need. **So if something is close to a full size gun it needs a full size magazine capacity or it isn't worth a sh*t.

@@Lawyerboyleslie72 actually the statistics I saw said that most of your police officers (the better trained ones) have a hit ratio of about 50% **So that cuts your (magazine) capacity to 5 hits, then add in mitigating factors multiple opponents, body armor, drugs then you're shooting what most people consider a mouse gun caliber. **No thank you! I either want more capacity in the same size gun, or a slightly bigger gun with a more effective cartridge. **And while theoretically you can rapel down the side of a building with 550 cord, I'm not going to do it unless it's absolutely (life or death) necessary. **Wise people prepare for the worst case scenario, **Not the best case scenario. **And while this pistol may be middle of the road, **Which makes them slightly less ignorant than the people that choose to carry no firearm at all. **Not for me!!!

My carry is an LCP Max, and this Walther is very attractive for some of the reasons mentioned. I could live with the lower capacity, but I need full concealability, and the size and weight increase make that difficult - at least for me. YMMV.

It would be great if it had an easy to load mag and an easy slide in addition to the tip up.
