Shauno & Jesse are finally making real progress on Sooty MKII! In part 3 of Shaun Whale's 80 series Landcruiser rebuild/restoration, the boys tackle some of the hardest jobs so far:
- Removing & rebuilding wheel hubs, wheel bearings & brakes
- Removing & re-installing diff centres, axles & housings
- Replacing all of the shocks, springs & suspension bushes
- Making sure NO nut & bolt goes untouched!
- Slowly but surely, this true ground up 80 Series 4x4 build is coming together!

For wire brushing nooks and crannies I make a wire brush from old wire rope, splay the end a bit and chuck it in the drill, gets down into corners, even goes around corners.

Hey guy's big heya from NZ. Wife and I love all your shows, we have a Swb 89 70 and a Mwb 87 70 setup for adventure and just want to say your personal content is awesome and is really nice to see you doing the hard yards that we all go through that sometimes feels is missed in your 24/7 shows but is is just part of the trip. I feel videos like this just help others feel your in the same place between trips! (Even if you sometimes get extra help) cheers keep up the good work

I’m sure it’s gonna be a BEAST and I can’t wait to see it in action! When you work on your own project it gives you great satisfaction of what you accomplished. When I built my buggy from the ground up I was so amazed at what I’ve done. Because I’ve never built any car before.

I’m jealous the weather down here in the blue mountains NSW has been crap, I’m been trying to work on my troopy for the last 8 mths, I’m struggling with juggling work, home duties, sick parents to find time to work on my troopy body work to get it driving after 5 years. Mechanical is done which is a relief.

Red Rubber Grease on literally everything, and the seals literally slide in like a glove! Same with interference fit bearing races, lube her up and in they go! You guys not got yourselves a cheap 10tonne floor press? Made building my diffs up with lockers and installing my reduction gears a bloody work of art! Saved the busted knuckled and need for last minute trips to A&E and busted bearing races! 🤣💪🏼💪🏼

When tightening wheel bearings, you should tighten them more than necessary to seat them, then back them off. Otherwise they will loosen up down the road. Looking forward to seeing this done. Nice work Shauno.

Shauno - I mean this constructively... Its worth downloading and reading the manual. at 19:25 when you install the front locking nut, the process involves tightening the nut, turning it several times, backing the nut off and retightening. Torque figures are pretty important even if you've rebuilt the hubs a bunch of times.
@R.Sole88109
@R.Sole88109 Жыл бұрын
That's the way I was taught to torque things including wheel nuts. Not 30 ugga-duggas with a nutsmacker then a instant click with the torque wrench.
