Awesome news that Shawn and the Dirty 30 Will be coming to the states. Sounds like you’ll be making a stop in Moab, Utah my home state and a absolute gem. I think you will find it a lot like some of the places in Australia and fall in love with the area as many people have before. It will be cool to hear your thoughts and how it all compares. Honestly in my opinion a lot of guys are building up these huge trucks with giant 40+ inch tires are doing it a lot of times for show. The dirty 30 is very capable of tackling most trails we have here in Utah if you get into some of the more technical stuff I could see how putting on 37‘s or larger tires would be to your benefit but there are plenty of vehicles out there on 33 or 35s doing the majority of trails we have here day in and day out. Hopefully you post some more information on when and where you will be. It would be an awesome experience to be able to see and check out the dirty 30 in person.

As an overlander from US, I am so excited Shaun is visiting. As for the trails out west, strong rock sliders, steel skid plates, and a good winch goes a long way. 37s will definitely help but if you're going to Moab reduction gears is a must. Don't know what group you're going with but a GMRS radio is the most popular form of communication here. Other than that the Dirty 30 will be perfect. Diesel toyotas are very rare here so having plenty of engine/driveline spare parts will save a lot of headaches. Otherwise there's a ton of 60, 80, and 100 series on the road in Utah/Colorado.

Wow more work on the dirty 30. I thought Shaun said it was already the ultimate 4wd build. And so is his 80...except that blew up on it's maiden trip. New Dmax with Pedders suspension? I didn't think people rated Pedders. And didn't the camera crew just get a GU? The pony lux is starting to get away from the budget build idea but then again they are doing it slowly which probably resembles what many average blokes do. Darryl seems to still be a real budget rig. Good move on the electronic ignition, now it's moved up to 80's technology. Could Jesse's GU be getting an OM606? Or a Cummins?

@Jake_Hamlin2 жыл бұрын
Subscribers to this channel need to know the cause of the bottom end failure. Learning from other peoples mistakes is an integral aspect of this channel’s appeal. Fresh rebuilds don’t randomly spin bearings and/or lose oil pressure within 4,000kms. I understand the presenters are not mechanics but if a quick summary helps viewers avoid a thousand dollar plus mistake, it’s definitely worth explaining especially if the cause was easily missed or overlooked.
@benvivian16152 жыл бұрын
@@Jake_Hamlin mate, U hit it on the head! I bout the up I have now, it seized up literally 270 kilometres 4 hours after I bout it.... Cylinder 2 and 4 completely seized. No recourse from the seller who claimed to not know any reason why Anyway, long story short spent $11,000 and has the 1HZ-T rebuilt and a new turbo. Rebuild even came with a warranty. But a few months left on warranty I noticed a small oil leak from the front, the mechanic couldn't be contacted until just after the warranty expired...and then says. "An oil leak shows lack of maintenance ".... Yeah that's not suss at all, a completely rebuilt motor gets an oil leak from the front main and that from "lack of maintenance"???? Took it to reputable mechanic and found out that he hadn't keyed the harmonic balancer correctly and that ended up damaging the crankshaft... So another $6K to have the motor taken out and the crank sent off to be repaired......spend $11K on a Toyota motor and then up for another $7k for repair less than 12 month and only 4,500K's....

Shaun. For coming over to the states: Take off the front antenna. You wont need it as we run different radios. Anyone you run with will a spare you can borrow. Suspension Parts. The only thing that we may not have over here would be stuff to accommodate the right hand drive. So maybe bring anything that's different for the steering down on your front axle. Also, those axles are also probably rare over here. So maybe a knuckle, CV (or two since I know how hard you run), maybe a control arm, or whatever's down there. Also, diesels aren't as popular and the engine in your rig is likely (almost certainly) not here in the states. So any parts that might break on your engine. Serpentine belt. radiator fan. Air, fuel, oil filters. Hoses. Fuel pump. concerning Nissan vs Toyota. I've got a bone stock Frontier 4x4 and all the guys I run with have Tacomas and 4Runners. They get surprised when I stick with them. Yeah, I certainly have some clearance limitations, but there's usually a way around it or rocks to stack to get through it. So bring on more Nissans.
@marcusriley53882 жыл бұрын
Shauno, i'd say that the reduction gears will be the most useful for trails like the Rubicon. I'm in Southern California and many of the best trails down here are in my backyard. I've also run the Rubicon, and occasionally will play on the Hammer trails where they run King of the Hammers. I love spending a lot of time out in the Mojave Desert and recently lead some friends on the historic Mojave Road Trail that spans the desert. Let me know if you ever need a guide in this area, or have any questions.

@tomandhistruck2 жыл бұрын
You can run the Rubicon trail with 33 inch tires and IFS, kinda. your rig will never be the same. To do it comfortably, you are going to need 37 inch tires or bigger to get through. 37 inch tires are kind of the golden standard or bare minimum to get a lot of stuff done and still make it out. 35s are okay. Just that extra inch really gets you to build your rig a bit more to get through the tougher stuff. Keep it low and keep it flexy, yet stable. Bash plates are a must. While rock crawling, the goal is to keep all tires on the ground as much as possible.

Probably best advice for Rubicon Trail is dont do it without someone who has done it.. It is not all marked, most obstacles can be avoided but why would you? Some obstacles are not easily viewed or sign posted. Best to do this trail from west to east, Wentworth Springs Road, Loon Lake to Tahama at Lake Tahoe if it is your first time. Can be done "backwards" Tahoma to Georgetown but that puts some hard obstacles like "old sluice" and "soup bowl" as up-hill obstacles.. It is only 12 miles but I could walk 12 miles faster than you can drive this trail. Most people take at least one overnight camp. You will need permits to fish and permits to have an open fire.Enjoy this iconic trail, best there is in Ca. I know people who have driven all the way from Georgia, and NY State to drive this 12 miles.

Stoked you are gonna bring the 30 to the US. I’m a Brisso fella living in Arizona. Some sweet wheeling out here. You should connect with TFL Offroad - they have a huge following, cover sick builds and have their own off-road course

Can't wait to see the 30 in the US. I agree 37s are pretty much the perfect size for tracks here. Hope I see you on the trail shauno!

If you are coming over to the states, Talk to "Off Road Design" or ORD. They are Suspension and power train experts located in colorado. They will be able to properly configure the '30 so you have a chance to keep up. Good luck. Great vid, keep 'em coming.

With enough money, you can accomplish anything. Move the front axles forward more. Yep 40's maybe 44's cut the fenders to fit. A blown LS to turn those tires on your new 1 ton axles. That should be a good start.

As someone who is from North America stiffer sway bars is a no go. You need flex. Currie Antirock sway bars I think would be my go to.
