Never had a SD card to fail on me in my 20 years of digital photography. I bring a 28mmf2 and 50mm1.4 AF lenses and a vintage manual MF lens from the 60s

I thought you were going to overlook earplugs. Yes, SUCH an important piece of gear if you want to be able to hear concerts in your golden years. I've invested in a few different brands of "musicians earplugs" that filter the sound more naturally than the ones used for working with power tools. Lets me enjoy the music more and they're comfortable.

100%, so important! I’m glad I learned earlier on that they’re important because I work with some people in music that have worked in the industry for years and never bothered with them! Gotta protect the ears
@robwasnj Жыл бұрын
@@SophiaCarey yeah, I"m the old guy preaching to people about the importance. What really really bothers me is when I see young children at extremely loud concerts dancing by the speakers without any protection. They don't know any better, when I was younger loud sounds like fireworks actually hurt my ears. I had extremely good hearing and up until around 30 could hear a full range up to 20khz, audiologists were amazed. Fast forward to now at age 55 and everything above about 14khz is gone and I can tell I'm starting to lose some hearing. I didn't protect my ears until I started doing photography and I was often very close to the speakers, I feel grateful I have any hearing left at all with all the abuse I gave them in m younger years. I too have many friends that have lost a lot of their hearing from being around it so much. Pretty much every musician in their 50's or later has lots of hearing loss. Great video all around, going to sub and check out more of your videos!

Another really useful video Sophia, great tips for shooting these kinds of events, so easy to assume there will be easy reachable power supplies

Wow, that was a whirlwind video, Sophia, speedy and concise. But much appreciated, please expand on how to access the festivals as a photographer, through agencies, media or via another route to obtain a press pass? I've had a look at your website of Format, and it looks amazing. The layout is so crisp and clean! It's a busy time for you right now, but how about a photowalk this year lol??? You come a long way on youtube please continue to be great #Londonlovesyou (V) (V) (V)

Hey! How are you? I actually detail how to get a press pass in my new Skillshare course about live music! I’ll definitely be making more KZbin videos about live music though. Thank you so much! I’ll see what I can do as to a photo walk in London - maybe later this year? Thanks so much for the support as always!

Do you use any lens filters? If so, what kinds do you use and prefer the most?

I don’t personally, no!

How do you carry your lenses? Or you just pick one for a period of time from backstage and switch again to another spot with the right lens?
@SophiaCarey Жыл бұрын
I usually have one lens on each of my two cameras and then go back to the base to switch over if I need to. There's another instance where I might keep my 70-200 lens in my Sony carry case, and carry that on my body, if both of my cameras need different lenses (such as an 18mm on one and a 35mm on the other, for example).

Wow, great video Sophia. I sometimes shoot my neighbour with his band Frogcodile. Up till now I have used a Nikkormat and a Lumix G2.

Hey such an awesome and informative video ! I am trying to make a jump to FF for concert photos and curious what camera body you would recommend ? Ive been stuck with either getting a Sony A7IV or a Canon R6. Not sure if you've shot Canon but maybe some of your mates have shot it for concert. Hows the low light performance of the Sony from your experience ? Thanks !
@SophiaCarey Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks so much. I used to shoot Canon when I started out in photography and I love the systems but I’ve never worked with their mirrorless system. Sony takes a bit of getting used to coming from Canon but the low light performance is brilliant. I’d definitely recommend it. Maybe consider hiring one of both and testing them both for a while before you make your decision?

I thought the days of restricting photography at concerts was over, since everyone has a decent camera in their phone now. But, I'll be going to a festival this Fall that restricts "pro" gear. What's pro gear? The best I can tell, any camera that is more than a basic point-and-shoot is considered pro gear. I always take my Sony RX100 VII as a pocket camera when I travel. And I'm trying to decide if I can take a Sony RX10 IV. Anything more than that I doubt would make it through the gate.
@SophiaCarey7 ай бұрын
Different places have different rules but often “pro” gear is defined by a camera with a detachable lens or a lens over a certain length. You could always send a message to the festival organisers to clarify!
@PhotoTrekr7 ай бұрын
@@SophiaCarey Thanks for your reply. I sent an email asking if the Sony RX10 IV is ok and described the type of camera it is. So far, no reply.

You didn't mention water, it's a mandatory piece of gear for me!
@SophiaCarey Жыл бұрын
That’s actually so true! I have a water bottle that clips onto the bag that I wear over my body and then can refill as and when
@AnastasTarpanov Жыл бұрын
@@SophiaCarey I knew it! For me, water is very important especially in the heat, because I get a headache otherwise and that ruins all the pleasure of photographing a festival.

The video footage is shot on a 360 camera. I do also have a fisheye for stills but I don’t use it that much - it’s a Meike 6.5mm
