I don't understand this show, in both seasons literally everyone is encouraged to go from benefits and never working a day in their lives to starting businesses. Obviously they are almost all going to fail. They should be encouraged to save the money and live off it while they search for full time jobs that are stable and consistent income like a normal person would do. These people don't even have the work ethic to have a full time structured job let alone structure their own jobs and run their own business.

They aren’t encouraged to start businesses so not sure where you’ve gotten that idea from,l. The aim of the experiment is to see what people on benefits choose to do and if they can be successful (however they choose) when given a leg up and it just happens that they often choose to start something of their own. The experts repeatedly say that they’ve chosen a challenge by starting a business of their own. I don’t think having a rule about no businesses would be helpful either.

I've suffered with depression and anxiety ever since childhood, but I've never stopped working because of it. Granted, it's tough to wake up in the morning when you feel like life isn't worth living, but what helped me get over it each time was working towards a goal, and to better myself. In the US, if you claimed you couldn't work because you have depression, you'd get a lot of blank stares. I've taken time off on really hard days, but you have to get back at it, and can't lay in bed all day, it just makes it worse. A few of these parents have used depression as an excuse for living off the system, and in my opinion it makes people less understanding to the struggles depression can bring, as they make it seem like an excuse for laziness.

My daughter’s ex owes over $50,000.00 in back support, but because she doesn’t receive any type of welfare, our state won’t bother going after him. He moved to next state over when our granddaughter was 3, and he hasn’t paid a penny since.

Gardening is a better idea than a bus. Much cheaper to start up and get the money coming in. Get a bow saw for bigger trees. I wouldn't use a chain saw without training and proper protective gear, even then I don't like them. I worked as a gardener for 29 years after electrical engineering dried up. A quick shopping trip needed for more burgers. I like the custom dress idea. It's a gamble for them all as they need to spend on stock and get money coming and things could go slowly at first and some spare money from the £26,000 helps to pay normal bills and see them through the first few months. There's obstacles even in working in your own home. My house deeds say I can not use my premises for the use of; innkeeper, beerkeeper, slaughterman, tallow chandler, soap boiler, soap maker, fellmonger, tanner, dyer, ironmonger, blacksmith, tinsmith, brazier or any other noisome or offensive trade or business.

I'm guessing the father of the 1 year old was from a one night stand. The fact she has 4 kids with 3 different men, none of which are still around, speaks volumes about her lifestyle choices. I hope her business takes off though, for the kids sake...

Call me a misery but I don't like the parts where the family just throw the money around whooping. I'd much rather see footage of the family opening a bank account and setting up some direct debits to pay for gas, electricity st cetera.

Yeah, who would have thought to make sure they had enough supplies for their first day running the "Burger Van" - duh? They should have required the previous owner to provide at least a week's worth of supplies at the time of the sale. It amazes me how unprepared & delusional these people are to start their businesses. Whoever made this "experiment" possible should be roundly criticized for not setting-up & requiring these people to attend classes to prepare them for beginning their businesses before being given the money. It appears most have no clue as to the requirements for being business owners. I haven't heard one person even mention business insurance or taxes - are these not required in the UK?

Laura TT you may be speaking from a point of privilege, some of these people aren’t as educated or may not have the best support system. For all those wondering (nagging?), that all those people are starting to run their own businesses instead of getting a job. The protagonists for the show are hand chosen and it's way, way easier to film all of this when the protagonists are self-employed. Not every employer wants a TV crew around (or would you?). Plus it's way more entertaining for us viewers to find out whether or not those businesses turn out to be a success. There is a bigger story to tell than just finding a job.

The guy wanting to start the bus business should probably reevaluate his ability to successfully run a business. Business ownership takes time, patience, and requires legal hoops...it isn't an immediate thing and his frustration about licensure and regulations is comical and worrisome.

These people are delusional. The only one who really tried was Sophie. She even unfortunately couldn't sustain her new business but she definitely was the one to do the best. They should sort their resumes out and go door to door to find a job. Trying to start new businesses takes alot more money and time

Everyone one of them has the same bizarre ways of thinking; 1) Adam wants to build a shed before he as any customers, 2) Sophie needs to be told to get customers as soon as she has some products, instead of continuing to buy fabric, 3) The burger couple didn't check their van before opening.
@bill-20183 жыл бұрын
You can't get customers for gardening without gardening equipment and a shed to keep them in. Sophie did buy some ready made clothes to sell to get going. Yes, the burger van wasn't going to be stocked because that's up to the new owners.
