Danny Dubs, I know you're right. Columbia hated "Timbre". They hated the banjo on "Lose Your Way" as the lead single. So they buried it, knowing that she'd spaced 5 years between albums and it would have limited success. The problem is that reviews stated her follow up to THAT was so pop that it would have been the album Columbia wanted. I'll agree: "Wilderness" WAS that album. She was just a little too defiant while being actually very able to create the material they were after, but did so after she'd been buried.
This song always gives me goosebumps. It's haunting but comforting at the same time... it makes me feel empowered too.

This woman never became larger than life, because she was true to her talent, beauty, wrote wholesome songs and kept a natural style. No gimmicks, no shock value elements, and no obscenities like most female singers that did make it large in the music industry for whoring themselves for all that crap! I rediscovered Sophie and at this moment I am looking for her CD and playing it to the universe! Love her music that has that haunting but danceable ballad element that works for her like a glove! LYRICS:(169/369) (Intro 1/1+Verse 1/4)* I'm dancing in the shadows of life And death is all around me tonight I miss you making love to me right Beside myself I'm holding you tight Someone is waiting for me to rise And dive into the ocean I cried And I cried and I cried my baby to sleep Beside myself my soul to keep (Choros 1/4) Right beside you... I see Right beside you.. I stay Right beside you ...I'll be Right beside you... always... (Verse 2/4) We're dancing in the shade of the summer sun The drums are playing The change to come was yesterday In the heat beside myself I need to keep... (Choros 2/4) Right beside you ...I feel Right beside you... I am Right beside you... I kneel Right beside you ...I stand Right beside you ...I see Right beside you ....I stay Right beside you ...I'll be Right beside you ....always... (Verse 3/4) Driving into town with the top down Sun sinking low into the water I can feel your speed One hand on the wheel one hand on my knee I can tell you what I want you can do what you need Darling nights are getting cooler in the city so close There's a place we can do it somewhere right along the coast We'll arrive on time just a little bit late It's not a matter of style just a lesson in taste... (Verse 4/4) I remember when I was your child You made me up to be your lover Now I'm standing right beside you Other people still exist I don't pretend to love them less but darling When you drive this way I lose my breath.... (Choros 3/4) Right beside you... I feel Right beside you... I am Right beside you... I kneel Right beside you... I stand Right beside you ...I see Right beside you ...I stay Right beside you ...I'll be....Always... (Choros 4/4 + Outro 1/1) Right beside you I feel Right beside you I am Right beside you I kneel Right beside you I stand Right beside you I see Right beside you I stay Right beside you I'll be...Right beside you ...always

I remember driving late into the Fort Lauderdale night as an early high school boy, confused, frustrated, lonely, sad and blaring this song, while crying and feeling a huge release of emotion. This entire album (actually the first three albums) are amazing works of art. Fans of Sophie will notice this video was where she started doing her little circle-pacing thing she still does during live shows. This song is one of her greatest songs, both lyrically and musically. The composition is simple, straightforward and wrought with emotion. Anytime I listen to this song, it fills me with emotions. Sophie B Hawkins, Roisin Murphy, Alison Goldfrapp, Jonna Lee and Karin Dreijer Andersson are some of the greatest artists of our time. Thank you for making this song, Sophie.
