Watching a cold, drab, dead looking miniature literally come to life with every stroke of the brush is truly amazing. Every step of the painting process detailed in your videos looks so easy but anyone who paints miniatures knows it's NOT. That fact alone is testament to the amount of time and practice you have put into honing your skills as an artist. Please keep on posting your tutorials as they are not only instructional but are a joy to watch.

Wow!! all I can say is WOW!! I've had my new paint brushes for a couple of days now I must admit that I'm not a GREAT painter by any means, but I have turned it up a notch!!! I bought the rosemary 0 and 4, they have really changed my painting quite a bit. I'm still a "below average" painter, been painting 15mm for over 30yrs, but I can honestly say that between your videos and those brushes it has made a great improvement. I love your "concoction" of blood!! took me a minute to get the formula right, to much black the 1st time. Anyway, thanks again!!

Thank you, Thomas! I personally prefer to use more standard paints for the heroes to create a cleaner look, but you could go the Quickshade route if you like 🙂
@thomasguntert5349 Жыл бұрын
You are very welcome. Yes you are right. Even on some zombies it pretty got pretty muddy with the quickshade. But as they were my First Minis, im very Happy with the results. Maybe a thinner quickshade Applikation (3:1 Mix) will bring better results which are even applicable on the heroes? Or at the end IT will Always Look mudier with quickshade than with the Shades you are showing in the videos with the heros? The very good thing with quickshade is the time saving aspect.

Your Black Plague videos spurred me on to paint my own set and I'm having a great time. :) I'm painting Silas, the elf, at the moment and am trying hard not to botch his cloak. I feel compelled to comment, now that I've watched the Zombicide playlist a couple of times and finally finished my zombies (no heroes done yet) taking heavy inspiration here. What an awesome series of videos you've created, thank you so much! I learned a lot about shading and brush control from watching these (and your other videos ofc). I managed to still get some kickstarter exclusives (for a heftier price) now. Have you painted more Zombicide minis than you have video footage of?

Curious as to why at 6:03 you add the medium to the 2 mixed washes. What does this do? I know you said 'thin', so if you didn't use medium, would the shade be that much more pronounced on the white?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
+jayson olson Hi Jayson! It just weakens the shade to produce a more subtle effect; it's something I do when shading very light areas :)

Is there any particular benefit to priming a certain color rather than another? White Vs Black for instance?
@drkknght11388 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I forgot to tell you! My Imperial Assault Core Set and Greedo arrive later today so I should start painting in a week or so!
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
Excellent! Yes.. it's generally best to use a white primer for lighter-colored minis and black for darker ones. Really it's best to use both to create zenithal highlights (so prime in black, then spray white at an angle from above - or even use grey as an intermediate first). It's something I've avoided doing to keep the tutorials simple but may well be adopting soon...

Thank you! I always wondered.

I'm surprised to see that you appear to be using your sable brushes for painting TMM with? I've always been told not to do so due to the metal flakes in metallic paints tearing up the bristles badly. Do you have a special regimen you use to clean your brushes with to keep that from happening?

Is it advisable to use Quickshade Army Painter to shade the heroes? Are there any other shading methods? (I couldn't afford to get multiple different coloured shades).
@Sorastro5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mario! You could perhaps just get Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade, and maybe some Lahmian Medium to thin them out (and make them last longer). I'm not a fan of using the Quickshade on the heroes personally, as I like the colours to be a bit cleaner and brighter.. :)

I know this is an old video so I'm not hopeful of a reply, but I was wondering if you notice the metallics side from dulling when you use the matt coat coat? The army painter anti shine spray ruins metallics, and GW's purity seal gives the over all mini a bit too much shine. Any reply would be gratefully appreciated
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
+Danny Eccles Hi Danny! Testors Dullcote does give an extremely matte finish but I don't feel it harms the look of the metallics at all. It might be with testing some out on a practice mini of course to see how you find it :)

What brush are you using? I know my brushes are cheap, but they all do this annoying split-and-curl thing at the end. I would love to find a decent detail tip like you have in your videos, even if it cost a bit extra.
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
Hi! I usually include that information in the video description, but for this video I used a Windsor and Newton Series 33 size 1. However I often use a Rosemary and Co Series 33 Size 2 which is also excellent and quite a bit cheaper so well worth looking into ;)

As always, a pleasure watching you work. I notice you've used Vallejo's Ivory quite a bit. It's one of the few times you go away from Citadel. My friendly local gaming store doesn't carry those paints, so I might be looking to order it online. I'll feel a little bit silly paying shipping to get a single bottle. Are there any other cases where you prefer Vallejo to Citadel that I should be aware of?
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
+watsonsd1 (Genghis Sean) Hi! Alternatively you could just mix some Screaming Skull with white to achieve a close match to the Ivory. There will be occasions when I mix paint ranges, but I'll always provide alternatives from the other range when I do :) (German Grey is very handy too, but again you could mix something very close with black and Mechanicus Standard Grey) :)

Hello Sorastro, it's me again! I noticed you don't use the army painter quickshade for the survivors, would you recommend to use washes only for them? I have a few of the army painter washes, like soft, strong and dark and also a few of the colored ones. I suppose the washes provide a lesser "dirty" effect and thus more lifely?

Hi Sorastro, as I said in a previous comment; your work is so inspiring. Thank you very much for the quality of your work. I have however a small suggestion: sometimes, some of your choices deserve an explanation of why you make these choise. For example in this video: why do you chose to mix some medium in your shade mix... It would definitly be of help. Thanks a lot, and keep the good work ;)
@Sorastro8 жыл бұрын
