A lovely video! I recently backed gloomhaven which finally arrived - but needed some much needed instruction regarding painting (as I have never painted minis in my life). Your videos have been a revelation. Amazing quality, clear instruction, great editing and production value not to mention brilliant music. These are my favorite videos to copy painting my minis, but if you’re not a pro, you’ll never get them on the table to play. The detail is incredible, but man using 3 paints from different manufacturers for each section is brutal time wise. Lol. Watching these videos really makes me want to buy that box and paint up these models following your videos as closely as possible. When I use spray cans for zenithal highlighting, the white has a tendency to look rather speckled. Do you have any advice for this? I wonder if it is due to the can being really low.
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi James! I think spray cans do generally produce a more speckled look. You could try getting just a little closer to the model perhaps (but take care not to over spray) :)

Thank you so much Válasz! I'm honestly not sure if it's necessary to re-apply the matte varnish. But for ultimate durability you could brush on some gloss varnish then once it's dry, apply the dullcote 😀

Been really enjoying your video tutorials. I’ve been wanting to paint my minis for Black Plague and Dark Souls for a while now and I really enjoy how informative these are. Quick question. Do you thin any of your paints that you apply (besides the ones that you explicitly state)? Also, any tips for straightening a warped mini? One of mine has a warped blade and base. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Edward! Yes I usually thin all of my paints with a little water - to varying degrees depending on what I'm doing with it. For straightening warped minis I usually dunk them in very hot water for a while then re-shape the warped part and quickly submerge in cold water to cause the plastic to re-set :)

Great video! Your presentation is top notch! I do wonder, between layers are you using any method to speed up drying times, or do you allow the paint to dry naturally for minutes, hours, or days?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joseph! I find that the paint usually dries quite quickly naturally in a matter of minutes (or even seconds if I'm using very thin layers). I occasionally use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time for things like shades perhaps :)

Love your videos Zoroastro! Thanks again! Two questions: First, i saw that you use lahmian medium sometimes, why and how do you use it? What is the purpose? I saw that you even mix lahmian with a citadel wash, what does mixing lahmian makes with paints and washes? Second: i saw that you put a Clear varnish coat to the figures so they are protected. I dont have testors available in my country, what i have is the Reaper sealing brush on varnish, that i dont know if works the same. Any advice with varnishes? I did an amazing blend on a Kingdom Death pinup some time ago, and then put a Vallejo matte varnish and it nearly killed all the blends! I want to protect my minis but not to lose th equality of the blends i make :( Thanks, wish to know your thoughts about this
@Sorastro5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Regarding Lahmian Medium - I use it for thinning down the Citadel Shades because it I use water it kind of messes with the properties and flow of the Shades. Some people also use it for thinning their paints with - which is fine - but I generally use water (otherwise I'd get through a lot of medium!). Regarding varnishes - I'm afraid I've not really used anything else apart from the Testors Dullcote for years because it's simply my favourite so I'm afraid I can't offer any further advice on that; sorry! :)

I dont have airbrush either the White Spray. Can I achieve by drybrush in your first step (Prep 'n' Spray) the highlight with a white paint ?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob! Yes you could dry brush over the black in the prep and spray stage.. I'd suggest doing so in a couple of stages, starting with a mid-tone grey then white. The results might not look quite as smooth as when using airbrush however, but good enough for the table top :)

What's your view on base & layer paints, do you differentiate them? When l started l got some starter tips from my local GW store, like working with the order primer>base>shade>layer/dry etc, but you seem to not only use them in whatever order but you even mix them together for new paints. Is there some special thought behind it or is it just easier to get a certain nuance?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lau! It's worth being aware of the different levels of concentration/pigmentation in the different paints (Base vs Layers etc) but I certainly wouldn't be a slave to "The System"; I'll pretty much mix whatever I want to achieve the tone or effect I'm after :)
