It ain't always like that. Like yeah, I believe metal should be "Rough and tough" sounding but we often forget that melodic moments have always been in metal. Listen to Black Sabbath and Mercyful fate for fucks sake lmao they're tough as fucking nails, but they also write lighter songs which I can assume aren't the Dawgs favorites lmao. Point is, your right. It shouldn't be dictated on "What's tough" it's should honestly be "What's actually good and listenable"

Even if you prefer heavier music genres, there are heavy songs that are garbage. If you base assessment of musical quality just on how heavy it is, and that's your main criteria- that's deeply flawed and evidence of questionable taste and judgement. Can't mince words, that's how it is.

If for the next King Diamond tour the price doubles for tickets and King Diamond will be accessible to be met at the merch table and they will be playing more obscure songs- that would be the best scenario in my opinion to weed out all the hot topic fans that don’t even know the entire discography and will be best for the actual hardcore fans. They might have to play smaller venues, but so be it.

Most of them wear wigs and if they didnt go bald they use hair dye. Total poser genre.

I think you're probably dead on with nothing really all that new happening extremity-wise after 05. Stylistically bands derive their sound from their predecessors and the older bands are the same, they just pushed those to the max as far as speed and heaviness and pioneered new sounds because of that. Pretty much every newer band is a combination of their influences, and after extremity hit its absolute limits (since there is only so much you can do without it becoming straight up noise without structure), it was hard to do anything truly new sounding. Most "new" sounds now are just recombinations of genres, which is fine. Even in terms of aubject matter it has pretty much all been done. So now it's down to interesting takes and combinations of previous sounds.
@GamingManual

I agree and I say it all the time. There's nothing left to do in metal, hence all the "gimmicks" like "Djent" and "Slam"; it's officially become derivative in the worst ways possible. There is no more speed, tech, or doom and even avant to add to anything anymore. My ears still consider Gorguts "Obscura" a pinnacle for the genre of death metal; nothing has come to close to smashing open the gates to a new level since IMHO.

@@GamingManual I still think there's more to do, creatively anyway, just not in terms of completely new sounds. Creativity never stops, just changes. Gorguts actually lost me with that particular album since that record was not a style I enjoy, but they did come up with something very creative and different stylistically there by pushing song structure and riffing styles that were not being used in death metal at all (and thereby distancing themselves from pure death metal), and really leaning into it. Musicially, it's a bonkers record, just not what I wanted from them. I wanted more Considered Dead and Erosion of Sanity. That's just the style I prefer is all.

Nirvana made me wanna start playing guitar as a 11 year old kid growing up in the Pines Barrens. I remember buying the tapes off of BMG and seeing the "Metal" section and seeing Napalm Death and thinking, I bet that's the heaviest band that I never heard before. lol Nirvana 'Bleach' is way different than the other albums and def has its own charm. I do like In Utero And Unplugged in NY the most though.

I don’t agree with the geezer takes - As a 50 yo geezer myself I grew up on hair metal first - at about 9/10 years old then got into thrash by mid high school.. I didn’t start getting into extreme metal (as well as nu-metal and other canoe ass shit😂) until I was in my 20’s I like shit from the 60’s,70’s, and even though I don’t like deathcore and modern metal as much as napalm death, carcass, cannibal etc I still find some shit I like within genres I don’t care for as much… I’m not interested in the good ol’ days or delusional about old shit being better bc it is older

Just as mellow yes, but Hair Metal wasn't as Homeboy Jugalo. I don't like either industry planted music scene. Disgorge is just part of the scowling bald pierced lip Skinhead hip hop mainstream 1990s bubblegum crap. Hair Metal is not Metal either, aside from one or two albums from early in the movement. It was all about Androgynous Boy bands with minimal Metal elements. Nu Metal Jugalo, Pantera - Lamb of God - Slipknot is the Bubblegum Pop music of the 1990s. And Poison - Warrant ( USA) - Dokken are the Bubblegum Pop music of the 1980s. Megadeth - Metallica - Anthrax were also Sellout Bubblegum Pop music in Disguise. The Real 1980s bands were Anvil , Exciter, Manilla Road, Ostrogoth, Atlain, Cirith Ungol, Omen , Fates Warning etc. The Real 1990s Metal was Boltthrower, Pestilence, and Gorguts

That's funny what you said about Bobby Blitz, because one time I called up the local college radio station to request a shot out to some people and Bobby answered the phone. He was like, "coming our show tonight?", and I was like, No. Told him I didn't have any money because I was probably 15 years old and didn't get into selling greenery for another year or so. I became an accidental pot dealer when I moved from the ghetto to the suburbs and my neighbors were growing in their backyard. My first year in the new neighborhood and once harvest time came and went and every other day my neighbor was throwing me an oz for free. And since I grew up in a family that never had anything I quickly found out how easy it was to make money especially when you didn't pay for anything you sold . I didn't plan on selling anything. The first day my neighbor gave me a big ol bag I rolled up cigarette sized joints and stuffed them into an empty cigarette pack I found and when I got to school I went out to the smokers corner in back of the building. I never smoked a cigarette to this day but I was looking for a girl I was friends with and gave her a joint free. Suddenly everyone there wanted to be my friend. I was like half these dudes never spoke to me in my life Suddenly because I got something and now they want to be friends. I told everyone I ain't got nothing for anyone even though I had a pack full of phatties. So people started offering me money, something I never had before. Suddenly I discovered that I could buy artificial friendship and make a bunch of money. Anyway Bobby Blitz kept pestering me to come to the show offering to stand on his head. In the end I ended up going after he offered me free tickets and he was nowhere to be seen once the set was done. I don't remember what other bands played probably why I wasn't planning to go in the first place because back then it was common to get shows coming around every Friday and Saturday and having at least 4 major international acts that were all headliner material on one show. So for Over Kill to be the only band I remember means they probably played with a bunch of hard-core bands which I don't care for. Any show that I ever been too the band members usually are at the bar and hanging out in the crowd watching the other bands . I don't know how many times I went to a killer death metal show in my area and saw Cannibal Corpe in the audience and they weren't even on the bill.
