Fun fact about the nuclear bombs in Fallout. They are designed different from modern nukes irl. According to the classic lore, these are designed to be less powerful in raw explosive force but instead focus on making the land more radioactive.
@nightly3225

Yeah they are basically just like Neutron Bombs which exists in real life. But that being said the radiation from nuclear bombs in the fallout universe are heavily overdramatized for the sake of the story. Edit: larger neutron bombs

@@nightly3225 No, Neutron bombs are...different, meant to take out armoured columns actually :) In Fallout they used LOTS of small "ground burst" nukes which in real life produces WAY more radiation, then add in all the nuclear power cars etc, you get LOTS of long lived fallout It was a deliberate policy, to wipe out the enemy's civilization

@@jonnyv5428 lol yup, that damn thing's "neutron shower" had a much wider fatality than it's blast radius, ugh! the firing crew HAD to fire it from the crest of hill so they could duck behind it or get their DNA cooked, eek! True neutron bombs emphasized that ability, but by that time, tank armour and non-nuclear tech had advanced so much, it made neutron bombs not worth the trouble

What most folk do not understand, and our governments deliberately supressed, is that comparatively few folk will die quick and fast, as that the thermal pulse from large hydrogen bombs is MUCH bigger than their lethal blast radius (so you suffer terrible burns) And the firestorms and fallout would kill WAY more people than a "quick fry/squish" death ~ Major cities with military targets would get hit by multiple nukes, so almost no one would survive because the firestorms would engulf the entire region in minutes and suck up all the oxygen ~ Current nukes though tend to be smaller and cleaner, also, much less of them today than in the 70s/80s, but if yer in or near LA, London, Washington etc...yer stuffed

That opening scene where the nukes drop might be one of the best openings to a TV show I've ever seen. I'm nearly 50 and I've seen shows come and go, some had amazing opening episodes or opening scenes - but this one, wow. And as a big fan of the games, it's just incredible. The entire series is amazing, and I wish we didn't have to wait probably 2+ years for a new season, if Amazon is smart enough to produce one.

on ghoul with chicken thing. they were trying to see if he turned feral or still himself. if feral first instinct is lunge at something living and start chewing on it, so the chicken was bait. also the guy that lead that group to get the ghoul out of that coffin he plays bubba in forrest gump. on the feral thing: somne ppl when surviving extreme radiation exposure turn into ghouls which they are still themselves but now more resiliant to pain, radiation tolerance and pretty much dont age at all and live forever unless you kill them. feral ghouls are those that the radiation pretty much damages the brain and they turn well feral. but from newer fallout games even if survive the blast and mind intact eventually decay will set into the brain, so constant fear ghouls have is they will eventually turn feral but dont know when.

While your instinct might be to jump into the pool of water, it's a potentially fatal idea for a couple reasons. Water is much more dense than air and is thus able to transfer the energy of the shock wave more efficiently, depending on the blast and distance it could possibly be enough to rupture organs; and even if it's only enough to make you pass out, if you're in water when that happens, you will drown. If it was empty pool though, for sure, take cover inside it; but if there's water you're way better off with other options.

Re: Bunker People. I looked into how many people we would need to have to have a safe population and avoid inbreeding (because I was looking at info for space colonies), and we'd need a minimum of 5,000 unrelated people /mated pairs starting out to have a safe population. With space colonization, we could probably start out with less so long as we planned to keep resupplying and adding new colonists. But if you're not getting new people in regularly, you need a population of 5,000. If you want to check an interesting real life case of a small population, native Icelanders are apparently closely related to about 50 percent of the population. They essentially have an app to help you avoid hooking up with your cousin, so that you can check that you're not too closely related.

That Pompei scene is a bit wrong. The bodies in Pompei were not preserved as bodies but only as bubbles of empty space under the ashes. The actual bodies to be seen in Pompei are of plaster that was poured in the cavities by archeologists, the original bodies had simply evaporated and the body shaped bubbles were all that remained.
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts 5 ай бұрын
ahem the plaster casts were done because the biological remains had deteriorated. in a nuke fire the body is carbonized and the blast wave after just blasts the charred body into dust. if the pressure wave was deflected by a building than a carbonized body could still be there depending upon the weather conditions after.
@tomaskoptik2021
@tomaskoptik2021 5 ай бұрын
@@toomanyaccounts Was checking the Hiroshima accounts and you are right. Still...such a remaining body is not completely carbonized, mainly on a surface. Completely carbonized body crumbles into white ashes as observed in Hiroshima. Anyway, you are correct, such a scene is possible for people around the epicenter but not directly in it (surface carbonization). Still...the carbonization is acompanied with radioactive decay and I am not sure any of these bodies would be still there/intact after 200 years. In Pompei the bodies were burried under hot lava and ashes leaving mostly empty bubbles after them. These bubbles are what kept the body shapes intact otherwise there would be no remains left at all. I am not sure there would be anything left of the carbonated bodies after 200 yrs as this carbonization is a decay process and not a preservation one. But it´s just a movie show and it plays with a scenario that is not so deeply explored to say it is not possible, especially with different types of bombs and conditions. But even though I feel the scene is a bit questionable for me a) it´s not a big deal given the lack of scientific info b) the show is good anyway :)

@@tomaskoptik2021 reality can often be weirder than fiction. so a few bodies remaining centuries later as an solid ash figure out of the lets say hundreds of millions to billions of people that were carbonized is not impossible. would have seen lots more of them in the first years after the nukes before weather etc destroyed the ash body. Plus environmental conditions could have hardened the carbonized body. Heck dead people sometimes in a year or two fossilize or mummify under the right environmental conditions than decay into a skeleton.

The Rock-It Launcher was great fun.. yeah, junk cannon. The order you load everything in is the order it fires.. forks, knives, spoons.. and if you load it will pool-balls they actually behave properly like a cannon ball instead of veering off based on what you launch, same with tin cans of beans

I haven't played the Fallout games much, but I could instantly tell there's something wrong with the guys from the other vault, but you couldn't tell if they were raiders from the top or really just had a very hard time inside their vault and needed some help to get back on their feet. Very good cinematography imo, of course I missed everything they did "wrong" since I don't know the game lore that well.

The Prydwen class airships are mobile command centers designed and built by the Brotherhood and is based on pre-war tech. The Prydwen itself is the personal command ship of Elder Maxson, leader of the Brotherhood.

@@WhenInDarknessSeekTheLight depends on which way you go with the story and also I never said it wasn't. My comment was just a general explanation of the vessels and their purpose because there is more than just one airship..

You can see it in the intro for Fallout 4, los Angeles really got hit without warning, the scene just gave me chills Edit: Also, Vault 33, 32 and 31 are a one of a kind type of vault systems, designed by Vault Tec, every other Vault is built seperately

those first 5 minutes of the show were completely amazing, both of them the daugther the father even thoy a vet, could not comprehend what is happening, everything you know is just getting destroyed right before your eyes...... this thing was a fucking warning call..... i was with the family when i saw the show was out, and put the 1st chapter thinking it would be pure bombastic and meme show, but the 7 of us were in awe at what was happening, and it got worse by the minute as more bombs started to detonate.... what an amazing scene, thou the show is not on par to this lvl of shock, this scene deserves praise for the showrunners and the actors.

The cousin thing is an American prejudice (great-cousins is allowed in the USA though), odd sicne there were far fewer settlers as a base population and people from different countries usualy only married amongst themselves, same way as the Azkenazi Jews did in Eastern Europe. In Europe, marriage and procreating among cousins is legal. It's making kids with your siblings that's not allowed due to incest laws. Bu for humans, the starting number you need for a genetically viable population has been estimated by geneticists as 350 adults. At least that was roughly the number of Polynesians who arrived in and settled Hawaii or New Zealand, as clan records record the number of shipsthat arrived and only a limited number of people plus lifestock plus seeds fit on those ships.

I have the same Brownie camera from the beginning, it’s a Brownie Hawkeye from 1949-1961. Also Kyle Hill just did a video on the “rule of thumb” and it doesn’t work, if you’re too close, the heat would burn you instantly and the blast wave would reach you within seconds. And the razors in the boot haven’t made me cringe that hard since the nail scene in Home Alone
