As a kid I never realized how lowkey dark the Underground is. Ratchet and his mother basically kill homeless people, recycle their body parts and sell them to their customers. If this wasn't done with robots it would be a horror movie.

Fun fact: This movie's DVD menu had an autoplay feature. If you left it sitting, it would automatically play. That is why I have this movie memorized, as I often left in my DVD player to play over and over and over again. This movie and Megamind, which I can also quote. What I love about Robots is: 1. It holds up, just as funny now as it was then 2. It adheres really strictly not only to the worldbuilding we see in the movie but to the logical extensions of the concept 3. The message is eternal and upon rewatches only becomes more relatable and profound 4. Robin Williams, he's an amazing comedian and actor but he always shines in voice roles

This movie is actually way more accurate on greed ruining once noble enterprises than I remember. Them sanding off the previous company motto reminds me of the sobering moment when google removed "And remember... don't be evil, and if you see something that you think isn't right - speak up!" from their company code of conduct. Oh look and they fired some people recently for trying to speak out about some fucked shit the company was doing, who'd have guessed it!

This is truly one of the Blue Sky's most underrated classics. I love how much time was put into developing this robot run world, I love the message about the working class coming together and standing up against their unfair capitallist overlords, and I especially love Bigweld. Mel Brooks as the voice is perfect and I love how he represents the imaginative, innovating ideas of Walt Disney. And boy, this movie sure was ahead of it's time when it came to planned obsolescence of technology.

@lich109 Ай бұрын
@@DiggitySlice He literally isn't. The dude not only wanted to devote a lot of his time to inventors without any demand of monetary compensation, but we're never told that he wanted to patent/commodify their inventions. Furthermore he not only removed himself from the corporation, but at the end of the movie he makes spare parts available again to help those in need (ie he does healthcare) and he decides to not only make the hero of the story (a worker) into his second in command and eventual successor, even though that means he'd not only give up his position of power, and the worker is also directly opposed to the company's structure and goals of commodification. Incidentally there is no difference between capitalism and corporatism, if you try to separate them, you will find that the former always leads into the latter, and that is by design.

- This movie’s original concept was going to be a screwball comedy with musical numbers - Notice that on the "Map of the Stars' Homes" that Fender is holding has parody names of famous stars like: Jeremy Irons, Orson Wheels = Orson Welles, Axle Rose = Axl Rose, Britney Gears = Britney Spears (which is funny that her song is used), Farrah Faucet = Farrah Fawcett, & M.C. Hammer - There is a robotic version of Sid the Sloth from Ice Age that appears when Rodney first enters Robot City

I find it super cool that the robot design aesthetics are used to emphasize the story The poor robots are of course rusted and vintage looking, but also a with lot of bright colors. Yellow, red, green, orange, etc. All the "inventor" robots have a lot of silver/grey in their design. Rachet is of course completely metallic, and everything he builds has a similar all chrome minimalist design. Bigweld is brushed aluminum, with black and some gold/copper accents. A lot of his designs have circles and natural curves with smooth motion. The female robot with the roller blade feet is kinda a mix of Rachet+bigweld, because she is initially on Rachets team, but she still is loyal to Bigweld's dream. She looks high tech and shiny, but with a black dress as well as lots of circles and arcs. Rodney also has lots of silver and chrome, but it is mixed with some light blue to associate him with colorful protagonists.

I don't know why but this reminds of the movie Repo: The Genetic Opera, where people have to pay for organ replacements due to a organ failure epidemic and they get hacked if they miss a payment. This makes me think of a potential sequel for that where organ replacement isn't enough anymore and the rates have gone up, so certain people have been secretly building prosthetics from whatever they can find(scrap/junk/whatever)and eventually that evolved into the 'Robots' civilization cos the robots needing spare parts and getting captured to go to the chop shop works the same way.

So one year on Christmas they replayed the hell out of this movie on I think TNT? The WHOLE day. My brother and I thought it was a mistake on the tv guide so we just keep watching it over and over. We had the words memorized and would say them in time with the movie. Our mom HATED this movie by the 4th watch threw. Because she KNEW we weren't going to stop. We were DETERMINED to see if would actually play all day. Barely touched our Christmas presents. Just watched this movie for HOURS. Could NEVER find this movie again on tv and our mom absolutely REFUSED to buy the dvd for us. Good times. 🤣

One of my favorite movies. When I was in middle school and my cousins where in elementary this was our after school movie. Watched it in my room as a movie theater room and popcorn and snacks.

I remember watching this as a kid and imagining the fight between Wonder Bot and Madame Gasket was like Yoda versus Sidious 🤣 given both Robots and ROTS were released the same year, as well as Ewan McGregor voicing the main character, i think that’s actually super hilarious.

I feel like disney and other studios did twist villains for like 10+ years that people forget that regular villains can just exist
