Fun fact for people who never saw DragonBall. Goku actually DID hit his head as a baby, which made him forget the few Saiyen memories he had. This caused him to become alot nicer, whereas before he was determined to destroy stuff. The only reason he didn't destroy the world during his first full moon is his adopted grandfather Gohan (who agoku named his son after) was a good enough martial artist to beat him as a giant monkey. At least until Goku got old enough to understand, "Never look at the full moon."

The monkey thing is actually chosen for a reason. Goku, in the original DB, was loosely based on Sung Woo Kong. He had his flying cloud, the power pole which could change sizes, and he was a shape shifting monkey. However, in DBZ all of those thing get abandoned as Akira Toriyama decided he wanted to take the story in a new direction so this fight here with Vegeta is his way of closing off that thread once and for all without retcons

OK, as a 80 kid let me tell you, there was no DBZ filler, well not for me, it was more the American TV station only had the episodes where Vegetta and Nappa were coming to the Earth, and they would replay it over and over because they didn't have any more episodes for America after that, I watch the series about 5 or 6 times before they got new ones in the US. Soo for me not so much filler as repeats over and over, I never thought they'd make it.

Yajirobe is not THAT weak, he still had a strong enough strike to cut a 180'000 power level tail after all...but yeah he just caught Vegeta by surprise and he's by far the weakest. I'd like to think that the Saiyan race was forced into genetic and psychological manipulation from the womb or during incubation and under Frieza's influence to enact the tyrant's galactic domination plans. Also, planet Vegeta may not have had an earth like moon to trigger the great ape transformation gene, perhaps the transformation was only discovered when Freiza showed up and had his goons experiment on an unwilling population. Freiza used the threat of annihilation and the Saiyan's great ape transmission to cover more ground in his conquest.

It's funny and games but,.....not fact. Goku was actually a great father. The scene when he arrived after Nappa killed everyone, Goku picked up Gohan and told him he was proud of him before giving him a senzu bean. Gohan elected to go to Namek while Goku was healing, when Goku came back to earth,he spend almost every moment with his son, first training(where they invited Piccolo) than(after recovering from a heart virus) they spent a virtual year in the tine chamber. After that Gohan went off on one adventure. It was during that time that Goten was conceived. Goku later died at the hands of Cell. At that point, Gohan was supposed to be the main character, but fans wouldn't have it. And Goku was brought back for the final arc.
