The thing that stuck out to me the most about the live action is that it has a luxury that Oda didn't when he was drawing One Piece and that's being aware of whats going to happen in the story very early on which I think the writers definitely took advantage of well

The live action is what convinced me to finally read One Piece, and I'm so grateful for that. Currently about 750 chapters deep and in the depths of Dressrosa, and picking up this series was one of the best decisions I ever made. Because of that the live action will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'm glad that it's still pretty damn good on rewatch with more insider knowledge. Can't wait for season 2 and seeing the introduction of my favorite side plot: Usopp and the Giants! Also, don't get me wrong, the live action does have quite a few flaws, but they don't really detract from my enjoyment too much. It seems like they are learning their lessons with season 2, though, like not trying to fit all of Alabasta into it and cutting it short at Drum Island.

I've watched a lot of reactions to the live action One Piece, and while most comment on the cinematography (usually like "why is it fish eye there? Why are they using that lens?") but none of them really talk about how they're framing so many shots like panels in a Manga! I love the choices to deliberately "distort" some shots so it feels like that exaggerated close up you would get in a Manga or comic book--a specific example would be the low angle when Zoro is tied up in the yard. So many shots with bokeh backgrounds because the majority of panels in a Manga will have a simplified (out of focus) backdrop. Why draw all of that when the reader is meant to be focused on the characters in those moments? It's the little touches like that that sold the show for me. Beautiful work.
@heitoroliveira516615 күн бұрын
I noticed that firsthanded too, i digged a little after the show came up and one of cinematographers actually is a fan of One Piece an watches with her 20+ son. She also read the manga. Both her and Matt Owens said on interviews they talked about how they could replicate the felling of One Piece Manga. And really did it. The lens are designed specially for the show and is called tilt-shif lens. It has two different groups of glasses that can be moved separatedly , literaly moving the bokeh while filming, thats how they got blurry background in a fisheye lens, without CGI. Not only the framing, but i love how they handled the camerawork on fight scenes, it really brings that feeling of anime fighting. One Piece is a case to be studied.

Ritchie *_was_* in the show, but only in a poster on a wall within the circus :P Truth be told, I was happy with all but 3 changes, which happened in Arlong Park. 1- The whole twist of the story of the village. By that I mean the fact that the village didn't knew about Nami. 2- No Hachi. 3- Ussop Hammer... Also, a funny thing about french is that Belle-mère = mother in law or step mom . Meanwhile "Belle-sœur = sister in law" while "Demi-sœur = stepsister".
@TankInATree15 күн бұрын
Even though the anime had a beautiful story, you have to remember that essentially the villagers let Nami suffer for years, without doing anything at all, even though they all knew. They could have saved up in secret... even just a little bit and then given her the money in the end, when she was close. It had been 8 years, so they should know that she didn't want to give up at that point (or even earlier). My guess is to why they didn't follow the story in the LA adaptation, is because it would make everyone look absolutely horrible to make a 10 year old girl suffer, without doing a single thing. With the short time they had, they couldn't make it hit right for a general audience. But that is just my guess.
@stevendeslauriers136915 күн бұрын
@@TankInATree I mean quite the opposite in my point of view. The villagers knew and never told Nami for her sake. They basically suffered through it silently because they wanted Nami to be free to leave whenever she felt like it became too much to bear. I do see your point, but I still much prefer the original story over that for Kokoyashi village. The I'm totally fine with all other changes really [Excepting the missing Hachi] , but that one felt too much (flip sided).

Buggy was done so well. The reason for the dark lighting inside the circus tent isn't just because it's a show but also it helps misdirect people in the tent so when he knocks out Luffy you you can imagine exactly how Buggy did it

Actually Oda allowed Matt Owens to introduce Garp earlier than he did, because Matt beg him… and at the end Oda got convinced.

Matt Owens is Goated. His favorite strawhat is Robin. He has fine taste and knows his shit.

one of the reasons this adaptation is pretty good for american live action is besides budget its the creator involvement. similar to sandman show (despite the allegations with the creator so far and needs to be in court to cement things) eichiro oda did have some creative control and say on the show development. meaning fully in person or quick response he approved or not approved changes made for the show vs japanese live action if i heard he didnt have much say/control in that. either it was needed they need his feedback or he didnt mind it. for sure he himself or allow show writer to alter pacing from manga/anime to better tell events go down and who appears like garp. but stuff he demanded to stay same would be like how roronoa zoro looks even with the triple sword thing look bit funny in live action. helmeppo for sure he ask them to do some cgi to make his laugh bit wider like in manga/anime.

1:36:04 why would people give you shit for calling it that? That's how it's pronounced, that's how it's always been pronounced, even the 4 kids dub pronounced it that way if im not mistake, though I could be mistaken there, I haven't seen that version since I was a kid so yea. But yea that's how its pronounced in both the live action and Funimation dub, I know the Funimation dub says it that way because I recently watched it as im rewatching the entire anime from scratch to catch up since I stopped watching at whole cake and need a refresher after years of not watching the series.

This series was my intro to One Piece and I loved it. It’s nice to see long time fans also excited about it.

I think another detail I love about the Sanji/Zeff thing is that he gave Sanji the only knife. Zeff used a sharp rock to take his leg off, he didn't have a weapon or anything, he gave it to Sanji to use if he needed it.

On Episode 2 I'm pretty sure i saw Buggy's foot on Zoro's Sword, i thought that a requirement of Buggy's ability is that his feet must stay on the ground

I doubt the live-action series will fully adapt the series so far but if they are, this is how I would break it down (with each season given between 8 to 12 episodes). S2: Loguetown to Drum Island S3: Alabasta Arc S4: Skypiea to Water 7 S5: Enies Lobby to Thriller Bark S6: Summit War Arc S7: Fishman Island and Punk Hazard S8: Dressrosa Arc S9: Zou and Whole Cake Island S10: Wano Arc S11: Egghead

Can you please react to the cast announcements and other stuff related to the "OPLA s2", especially the "OPLA Season 2 Set Tour" video and Matt Oven's interview with Lera Abova, who gonna play Robin, and Joe Manganiello (Crocodile).

I gave one piece a try way ago and just didn’t really get into the anime much. I disliked how they handled the villain captains and how little story there was (or rather how long you had wait for the next snippet) but I did like the live action. I think the story is being told way better and paced better than the anime did. I don’t see how people can hate on this.

Unpopular opinion - I tried watching One Piece when I was younger and tapped out (like 4 episodes of season 1). I just couldn’t do it, didn’t care, and even though people keep telling me it’s amazing and I just needed to get further, especially now that it’s over 1000 episodes and not even close to over? Just no. Then the live action came out, my friend wanted to watch it and I figured, “Fine, I at least want to see if I can understand where everyone is coming from.” I freaking loved this. I wasn’t expecting to get so invested so fast, I cried like every episode, I loved every character, and it was just so good. This live action show was so good it convinced me to start the manga. So yeah, I need a season 2.

Live action will never be better than the anime but it definitely was enjoyable compared to other live adaptations
