I love this idea, but to Mike's point that Ben set them up with this challenge, I think forcing Ebbers to do the same with the three remaining cans is only fair. So going forward, we should see two "Normals" draw cans and prepare a dish, then after judging, a chef must take the three remaining cans and make a dish of his own. Or perhaps have a follow up episode where Ebbers or Kush makes a dish using the same canned ingredients that the "Normals" used. EDIT: So obviously I posted this before I finished the video lol Both dishes turned out great. Still, I'm torn between seeing what a chef would do with the same ingredients, although the benefit of time and observation is a bit unfair, not to mention the advanced chef-y skills. Or seeing the chefs use the remaining tins with no prep time for a taste of their own medicine.

Everybody goes on about how bad or boring UK food is.... but reading reviews about your app and the problems overseas subscribers have in sourcing the ingredients, which are available here in the UK. Couldn't you try a recipe where you challenge your friends in other countries, considered to be culinary capitals, a relaxed shopping spree in the morning/afternoon, then a meal prep and tasting in the evening, with a budget and availability comparison on ingredients...

I know many foods do stay edible long after their expiration date, but I ate an out of date Jerk chicken sauce once and got food poisoning...🤢🤮I was sooo sick. So, I'm very careful now... I also got food poisoning on an airplane that served undercooked fish.... and I actually threw up in the hotel hallway the next day... Talk about embarrassing! So, yeah, I'm very, very cautious now.

the cherries were not really mentioned in the discussion at the end, so it seems like mike just kind of 'hid' them in the tomato sauce, while Jamie apparently managed to make all three flavours essential components to the dish and made them work well together as well. So purely based on the descriptions at the end, I was quite surprised that mike won that.

As a grocery store clerk foodsafe tip. Check your cans for hard edge dents and damage to either end. A can has a lining in it to prevent corrosion and any hard kinks in the can (not soft bends) can damage that lining. Also any damage to either end can damage the airseal leading to spoilage.

Not tinned food, but do want to share my successful attempt of avoiding food waste and turning what I had in the fridge into something new. After a Christmas party we still had a lot of veggies from our veggie tray. So for dinner this week I turned it into a noodle stir fry. These were not all veggies that I would traditionally have put in a stir fry but the end result was pretty good. Only thing I might have changed was the amount and ratios of my sauce but all in all a pretty good dinner that only required me to purchase noodles we didn't have on hand. Mid-week dinner made, budget friendly, and veggies saved.

Wait... Spaff made whelks, pineapple, and wasabi into something edible... and lost? Man deserves the win and a medal.

This looked liked a genuine tie to me! Both dishes look tasty and intriguing! 😄 Ive been fascinated with fruit and meat/fish combinations ever since I first tried to cook as a child. 💕💕💕

I occasionally have a can of braised steak and onions and I spread it on a puff pastry sheet then put it on a baking sheet and chuck it in a hot oven. It's a yummy quick savoury snack. Both dishes looked amazing but I have to go with Mikes dish.

Sheets of ready rolled puff pastry are great. You can put just a selection of veg - mushroom, onion, tomato, pepper on them and you have a decent meal. Tomato (chopped out of a tin) and cheese and ham (maybe chopped ham out of a tin) make a good tasty thing to eat. Cheese, leek and bacon on top - lovely. Sausage and apple. Puff pastry sheet with tinned fruit for a decent desert. All very quick to cook, all pretty cheap, all everyday stuff you might have. I bet stuff like mackerel (even out of tins but smoked mackerel would be better) and some green stuff, spinach or choi-sum, would be great too.

That would be an interesting addition to this challenge. Make the meal with the three mystery tins, evaluate, the get given the same three tins again to see how you can improve on what you did previously.

I love the idea of a video where they make a dish off the cuff, like this one, then immediately make it again after the first round, to see how much they improve the dish.

Actually make it a bigger challenge. In round 2 they need to make their opponents round 1 dish and the winner is who has improved most on the original dish. Of course this twist is only revealed after judging round 1.

I think considering Mike disguised the flavour of the cherries, Jamie should have won, because he used all 3 flavours instead of hiding 1

I think J's should get an added difficulty factor to boost his score. if that was at all edible, it should've won

If these were really randomly selected cans, I'm shocked. Respect on the block for turning this dish into something edible, let alone something tasty.

Today I’ve been brainstorming about Christmas dinner with my sisters. We’ve decided on a wonderful menu. But since our parents won’t be able to make it this year, maybe I should suggest a mystery tin dinner instead? 😇

Loved the video! One small recommendation would be to move the holiday ad to after the intro. When I hover over the video I tend to overlook it because "oh maybe I watched this already".

How about a mini series - this one as the 1st video. Next one - immediately after they have finished. A second version right away so to speak to see how they change/improve. Then in a month or several weeks, another round with same ingredients to show how it has changed with more thought. (and possibly home, off screen, practise). Would definitely help me grow skills in my own experimentation efforts.

Here’s a thought! Keep going with the tinned mystery ingredient theme… but throw them in an order! You have to open one tin at a time, cook with that tin for 10-ish minutes, then you can open the next. Love the concept!
