This type works very well. I've got a smaller version of this system for all the fiddly rings used for chain maille. Thanks for your videos, Ian.

I just use fishing tackle boxes, the nice ones are about $20 and they work great. But, the sortimo looks a lot more professional. Thanks for the review.

Work van equipment on amazon also has a similar case with each compartment having its own lid as well.

So every time you want something it has to come down/out like a suitcase and you get out what you want. I think the stand up ones would work better with less floor space needed. You would need more counter space for this system. Thanks for the vid, always nice to see what storage items are out there. :)

My workshop is tiny so I have to try and make the best use of the space I've got, workbench space for me is very very limited so all my stuff has to live underneath. If you have the workbench space then it's definitely more efficient to have your stuff that's so frequently used on top though yes I agree! If I ever win the Lottery I'll buy a big house and build a dream leather workshop, until then I'm stuck in my broom cupboard I'm afraid :)

***** I've tried everything else, but have gravitated toward something like this, because it just seems to work the best. You're right, the cheap ones scatter parts, the vertical organizers waste a lot of room and I found myself having to scan the whole thing to find rarely used parts. With these, there is very little labeling since I can just look down and see what I need. The cases get labeled, but not each box. I get into leather, electronics, woodworking, metal in a small area - using a stackable system I can convert the focus of an area in very little time. I like that you can remove and reorganize each little box in the case, my cases don't do that. One feature I like about mine is they are stackable with latches that connect to each other; I can pick four or five of them up at once with one hand. You can do a lot with a small shop area, but I need the ability to rearrange quickly and easily, because I don't want the prep time for a project to be more work than the project. Basically, I use a compartmental system and everything too heavy to lift/drag has wheels.

Sortimo makes plastic ribs that you can install in the sides of a box and these will mate with and slide onto those ribs

Just wanted to add that if anyone has a hard time finding these things I found a suitable alternative, probably not the same quality as these but affordable and easy to find, If you have access to a Lee Valley tools, Look up a product called "Allit" Modular Storage Cases.

Looks like the bins in those are the same size as the Sortimo ones. I'm curious just how well they match up.

WOW!!! you were not joking about the expensive part. up to 80 dollars NOPE way to expensive for that price they should come full of screws as well. Stanley makes a box similar to these for a fraction of the price, Sure they have their flaws but work quite well. I have had several of them for a few years now they are all still in great working shape and i have never had any mixing occur as a result of them flopping about in the truck and those boxes only cost me 12 to 18 each depending on the depth of the units.

+Tony Emory they're expensive but you do get what you pay for as with most things, the quality is vastly superior to the Stanley ones and being able to buy additional inserts and accessories so you can set them up exactly how you want is a bonus. This is just information for people though it's not my job to comment on price as people can afford different things.

Are those labels a Sortimo product as well? I've never seen them before and wouldn't mind them for my Sortimo boxes. Definitely the best storage system, you won't be disappointed you invested in them.

I've got one from stanleyworks and it works like yours. It's a good way to save space, I think that stanley is a bit cheaper, but not sure...allways great vids ;)

I've got Stanley ones myself for other things, they are cheaper but not in the same league as these in terms of quality, modularity, expandability etc. The Stanley is like a mid range car and these are like an Aston! :)

Ian Atkinson yes but $13 USD instead of $64 USD or more is quite a bit of difference.

Can you tell us where you usually get your hardware? There’s so many places selling hardware that I have no idea who has good hardware and not junk. I’m on a very limited fixed income so I can’t afford to make mistakes like ordering stuff that turns out to be crap and can’t be returned. Thanks
