Jacob, can you please please tell Caleb that the royal family is literally "Fritz" (the ones who went to the island changed their name to "Reiss" to go undercover as a noble family) just like the founder's name "Ymir Fritz" therefore DIRECT descendants of her whereas the other titan holders inherited part of her spirit. All stated in the anime. Additionally, the Eldians are referred to as SUBJECTS OF Ymir. NOT Children of Ymir because they are SUBJECTS of Ymir's ability, NOT children/direct descendants of her like the actual FRITZ bloodline who is the royal family. Also that is the big reason that they are the royal family - they're different from the rest of the Eldians because they are direct blood descendants of the founder.

Amazing comment by @Yinistaken on the r/anime subreddit that I felt is needed to be shared to everyone! Explaining the 'To you 2000 years in the future' Finally, they adapted the chapter where the Curse of Ymir was first mentioned, or the thirteen-year remaining lifespan curse. For those who have not seen some discussions on how the number 13 is significant, lets do some math: * From the narrations in season 1 and the history books shown, around 100 years ago (specifically, 107 years from chapter 2 of the manga), the first ruler of the Walls, King Fritz the 145th created the walls to protect humanity. * When a someone gains a titan power, their remaining lifespan is set to 13 years due to "Ymir's Curse". Same number of years between the royal family's succesion ritual. * "145th king" means there have been 145 weilders of the Founding Titan at that time. 145 x 13 = 1885. So 107 years ago, it has been 1885 years from Ymir Fritz. * At present time (1885 + 107) it would be 1992 years since Ymir Fritz. * Eren got his titan power at age 10, he's supposed to die when he's 23. Currently, Eren is 15 and has around 8 years left to live. * 1992 + 8 = 2000... What was the title of the first episode again? Oh yeah, "To you, in 2000 years." No biggie, nothing to see here.

Isayama surely has a lot to say to his readers in this Episode / Chapter. One of my favorite lines in AOT: Kruger to Grisha "I chose you because on that day, you went outside of the wall ... this is the story started by you". To me, this is Isayama's nod to all who loves freedom and truth out there. We don't need to be special - neither Grisha or Eren is; we don't need to be perfect - Grisha and his son make a lot of mistakes; But we all love freedom and truth, and willing to fight for them. To Kruger, this is enough to entrust the ultimate mission to Grisha, and Grisha to Eren; To Isayama, this is enough to make us Titans.

38:22 To clarify the topic at this point, I've always interpreted this like this: Long before Yimir Fritz came into contact with the "devil" or "the source of all organic matter" whatever the truth may be, Yimir had already belonged to a race or group of people before coming in contact with this "out-of-this-world-source" and it was after this moment that she gained the powers of the titans and that's how her and her people came to be known as the Subjects of Yimir/Eldians. So it's not necessarily that ALL Eldians are decedents of Yimir, but quite simply Subjects of Yimir. Their race/group became the Subjects of Yimir/Eldians after Yimir Fritz had came in contact with this source. She then went on to become royalty of her people and her people, Eldians. All Eldians, regardless of whether you have one of the nine powers or not, are connected and intertwined by this way of Paths. 1:03:30 That's an interesting point that I never thought of. I think Yimir being attracted to someone of royal blood was just a beautiful coincidence and beautiful story telling. 1:04:20 Well, that's not really correct because in the manga Historia simply reads the letter and as she's reading it, Isayama rolls the Yimir backstory. There was no electricity and Historia being in shock of what happened after touching the letter. This was new content for both manga and anime viewers. The anime probably adapted it this way to emphasize the point of Paths and how everything is linked and how it can send memories, a person's will, the titan's body, and whatever else it is capable of doing. I won't touch on the whole time travel thing as that's been a theory in the manga community for a while now. Great reaction! Can't wait to see you finish The Promised Neverland :3

Shingeki no Kyoijin, the title of the anime, better translates to "(the) Attack Titan". The legacy of show's entire English Title translation was a lie!!!! Well... more like a guess since back then the meaning of the title's true context couldn't possibly be fully gleaned and translators tried localizing it a way that made sense to English speakers at the time. "Shingeki" is a very specific term akin to a (swift) military advance/charge on the enemy. Using "attack" oversimplifies this, and in combination with the preposition "on" and the noun "titan" led to an error in interpretation.

Shamelessly taking this from the reddit discussion thread for this episode to place for people to discuss. The 145th king is the one who locked all of the eldians in paradis. Each king lives 13 years. 145 * 13 = 1885. The time to current day is 107 years from when the walls were created. 1885 + 107 = 1992. Eren has 8 years left. 1992 + 8 = 2000. The first episode title? "To you, in 2000 years."

If the Eldians were not human, then they wouldn't be able to breed with other humans. And as long as the differences in blood was something similar to blood types (discovered 1901), they would be able tell them apart. And that's only if the blood test isn't something as simply as a reaction when the blood is exposed to a drop of titan spinal fluid. In fact, it is likely not genetic at all, since due to interbreeding with the other races, you would end up with some Eldian children being "non-Eldian" from recessive genes from those other races, so that when the king erased their memories, some people would still have there memories, and when some would be getting turned into titans, they would be injected and not turn. Making whatever happened 2000 years ago, some type of mystical change, both to Ymir and the subject of Ymir. Which would also explain why the founding titan can only be used by the royal family. Her descendants are those meant to rule, and not her subjects.

1:15:47 I'm dying😂 Just look at Jacob's face! Btw, I love opening 4 too (perhaps my second favorite after opening 1❤), but nothing has made me appreciate it as much as chapter 112 of the manga that somehow added even more depth and meaning to it.
@jackjohnson83055 жыл бұрын
Finally, they adapted the chapter where the "Curse of Ymir" was first mentioned, or the thirteen-year remaining lifespan curse. For those who have not seen some discussions on how the number 13 is significant, lets do some math: From chapter 2 of the manga we know that its been 107 years since "the titans first appeared" ( i don't believe the exact timing has been mentioned in the anime so correct me if im wrong ) but after watching the previous episode we now know the truth of their origin and how they came to be so it's been 107 years since King Fritz the 145th first created the 3 walls ( Wall Sena, Wall Rose and Wall Maria ) and escaped with his people from the continent to the paradis island When someone gains a titan power, their remaining lifespan is set to 13 years due to "Ymir's Curse". Same number of years between the royal family's succession ritual. "145th king" means there have been 145 wielders of the Founding Titan or Eldian Kings at that time. 145 x 13 = 1885. So 107 years ago it has been 1885 years from when Ymir Fritz made the contract with the devil and obtained the Power Of The Titan as mentioned in the previous episode. At present time (1885 + 107) it would be 1992 years since Ymir Fritz's time. Eren got his titan power at age 10 so he's supposed to die when he's 23. Currently, Eren is 15 and has around 8 years left to live. 1992 + 8 = 2000... What was the title of the first episode again? Oh yeah, "To you, in 2000 years.” We've gotten a lot of answer's during this season but new questions keep revealing themselves so brace yourselves for the epic conclusion next year when season 4 drops!

Didn't watch you discussion yet but wanted to say this. if you remember correctly in episode 1 of the series (To You, 2000 Years From Now) Eren had visions/dreams about future events (titans and what happens to his mom) when he wakes up tearing up, mikasa ask him why he was crying he responds that he was feeling as if he was in a long dream (same feeling titan shifters feel about being a mindless titan) and that exact same sequence of events happened in the future (last episode) when he wakes up and mikasa asks him the same question in which he responds with the same answer. Also in episode 9 of season 1, Grisha says to Eren the exact same thing Eren kruger said, "If you want to save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else". I don't know where I was going with that, but it felt relevant to what happened with Eren kruger (remembering things that happen in the future, and things repeating themselves) just wanted to share it with you in case you didn't notice it. Now I'm going back to watching your discussion.

If you go back to when Grisha is about to pass the power to Eren, he actually says the exact same thing that the Owl said "to save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else". Remember that the memories transcend time, and now realize that Grisha was crying while doing it. There's some dark implication there

When Gross talks about how people want to see cruelty and looks directly at the audience it felt to me like it was also directed at us. "You know it's true. You have a peaceful life, but somehow you still want to watch a show where people are brutally murdered. You want to see people fighting for their lifes. You think this is interesting." In the german subs, he also called it entertaining. That part got me thinking so much. And I've seen reactors call him a psychopath and an asshole and then seconds later they're cheering and watching in satisfaction as he is kicked off and brutally murdered by a titan. We can't just disregard what he's saying because we're proving him right. We have to be aware of the bad that's still in us in order to truly become a better person.

In a show that just told us "memories" could travel through time and be inherited, I think it's possible you guys might be jumping the gun on Eren "failing" his mission. If you think about it it is possible that Eren use his power of Founding titan or that the spirit of Eren was so strong that he's memories start to go back in time to the first Attack titan (wich could explain the "For you, 2000 years in the future") AND that his ideals past over all previous Attack titan just like the ideals of the first king in every royal blood eldians with the power of the Founding titan ! That's why all Attack titan shifters always want freedom because they have the ideals of Eren in their head ! That could also explain why Kruger had memories of Eren ! I know it' a pretty dumb theory but I like it and it could explain so much things
