She recognized the lies the government was telling her she only joined because of her dad forced her. That's why her dad was asking for forgiveness back in her season one and ova flashbacks. Over 1700 years ago Ymir Fritz's "made a deal with the devil" which granted her the power of the Titans. When she died the power was split and bestowed upon Nine Noble house's. King Fritz's abandoned Marley thus upsetting the power balance between the other Titan Shifter's. This allowed Marley to overthrow the Eldians and seize the nation and claim seven of the nine Titan powers for themselves 80 years ago. Marley only keeps the Eldians around because their people are the ones who can turn into Titans.

Regarding Caleb's theories about Ymir and the 9 titans, I think the dialogue said and the words used to name certain things by themselves disapprove his theory. They say that Ymir Fritz dies and her power splits into the 9 titans and then these 9 titans **created** the Eldian Empire and then oppressed other races calling them inferior and forced them to bear their children. The concept of "Eldians" didn't exist when Ymir was alive, it happened after her death. And remember that Eldians are also called the Subjects of Ymir. Which the word "Subjects" itself shows that they have no blood relation to her otherwise they would be called "the Children of Ymir" or something that makes it clear that "they" are of "her" by blood. Not to mention, they'd all be able to use the Founding Titan to its fullest potential if that was the case. Therefore, the 9 titans are her subjects and were chosen to inherit and be able to use her power. The same way the Jews were "chosen" to enter a covenant with God but the Jews themselves aren't related to God... Hopefully, what I said makes sense. Thus, the Fritz family members we have encountered technically are inherently different than the other "Eldians" or "Subjects of Ymir". Even though they refer to themselves as Eldian as well which was the case with Dina Fritz. From my perspective being Eldian is more like a nationality.
@Dr0pic5 жыл бұрын
There possibly a civil war between titan shifters, after death of Ymir. Betting on Marley involved too, taking advantage of it. Just my theory. No way I believe Marley alone beat em with sword and shield.
@dylanmorris79465 жыл бұрын
I think the nationality claim may be a bit of a stretch. Their does appear to be some biological component to the titan powers since only Eldians can become them. I think a clan structure may fit better. Even if the 9 original titans following Ymir's death were not related, them inheriting the power made them all related in some fashion. At the very least it made them all Eldians. This meant that all of their descendants were part of the Eldeian race, the clan, while also being descendants of a particular titan, a branch or family within the clan. Those that came directly from the branch that the founding titan created may have actually been blood relatives of Ymir and thus became the royal family do to their special powers. The descendants from every other branch on the other hand are not as pure blooded as the founding titan bloodline, but are still Eldians, or clan members, none the less.
@aohige5 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with Grisha's belief in Ymir is that Eldians =! Ymir. Ymir may have been a saint, and most likely she was, but that has nothing to do with whether or not the Eldian Empire was benevolent.
@Lrodpotato5 жыл бұрын
Yea Grisha's beliefs were fundamentally flawed. It kinda reminds of like the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire did some horrible stuff but they also made many advancements in societal structure where literacy and education rates among the common people was much higher, they revived many Ancient Greece's methods/perspectives on Art and then change things like the mediums they used, as well as made architectural and engineerial advancements such as the arch, vault and dome which lead to the creation of bridges, dam/reservoirs and aqueducts (which brought water to the people) making daily life easier for many. Not to mention, the invention of cement/concrete. Eldians may have done some great things like that using the power of titans but that's not exactly what most people remember about them in their world.

Jacob: "All the people on the island are Eldians." That's counterfactual, even from what we've gotten in the anime thus far :x The nobles weren't Eldians. S3P1 showed they were immune to the Founding Titan's mindwipe powers, and what's more, they claimed to be distinct from the general population, calling them as 'slaves' and saying they had 'slaves' blood,' and 'our blood is totally different from yours.' So while they seem to have forgotten the racial terminology of 'Eldian' vs 'Marleyan' over the past century of living within the walls, they were not themselves Eldian. Then you've got Mikasa's mother's people, named in S1 as the 'east-ocean-folk' who seem to be yet another different race. As well as the Ackermans, who are also immune to the mindwipe power and therefore probably also not Eldians.

Rip Caleb misunderstanding the 9 titans not being blood related to Ymir Fritz. I think the one thing that every reactor I've watched has forgotten is the very brief mention in part one of season 3 that the puppet king was known as "King Fritz" and that the royal family had gone undercover with a different name as a noble family, "Reiss".

About who is the "bad guys" here. We have the Marley story that says that the Eldian empire enslaved and made several atrocities with the world using its powers of titans, we have to look that this version may have been manipulated, trying to worsen the actions of the Eldia empire in order to facilitate things for Marley. We also have the version told by Grisha, where he tried to read some ancient texts about the Eldia empire, this version said that the empire of Eldia was in fact allied to the rest of the world and helped them to prosper using the powers of titan and that Marley betrayed them to steal his power. Although we must note here that Grisha was unable to really read much of that text in that old language, he simply believed that was the truth because "We are the descendants of Ymir!!", because he wanted to believe in that version. Besides that, these texts seems to have been made by Eldian's empire, so what guarantees that they also didn't manipulate the truth by writing those texts to improve their image? Looking at all this, I personally believe that Marley's version is yhe one closest to the truth. Besides, I think it's very unlikely that the anger that the world have with Eldian is the result of absolutely nothing bad.

I've come back to is; if I were creating an evil empire I would not leave capable rebels with a family name at large. A little rebellion is fine, but the rallying point seems odd. Sure someone can come from the ashes, but the same people who owned everything before. That seems sloppy.

To Eren (Isayama) 's Existentialism point of view, there is no such thing as Sin or Mandate from heaven, Choices are only things that matters - whatever horrible things or glories things done by the past generations, it has nothing to do with the younger generations, because those are not their choices. AOT talk about freedom and consequences of choices all the time (by Eren and Levi especially) - Grisha and his sister and Eren didn't oppress Marlians, Marlians are choosing to oppressing Grisha. Grisha deprived Zeke's choices thus faced consequences, etc.

@@mygodwhatdidyoudo Thanks! I am so thrilled I want to put my thoughts together: Eren's mom said it clearly - when children are born to this world they are already great enough. Not entitled or condemned to anything, not "meant to be" anything, be it Great leaders, freedom fighters, or devils, sinners, they are NOT. It's up to their own choices to become any of those, and they face their own consequences of those choices. That's existentialism in its fundies. Also the "beautiful cruel world" brought up again and again, which is basically Isayama's version of "Hell is other people".

31:00 I know they wont read this but to clarify, the manga has some vague dates and some specific dates, but the timeline is relatively consistent, contrary to their commentary. Its been over 100 years by this part of the timeline since the wall raised, just barely, and we can calculate this from info already given. There is even more dates and math that works relatively closely for how many kings ruled between Ymir to now, but i dont want to spoil with manga info given past this point.

I think i have theory about eldian's origin, regarding 1:28:40 i think eldian people is a race, and not a ymir's descendant. but ymir fritz is also from that race, so when the deal with the devil happen, everyone from that race is "compatible" with titan power (or just regular titan transformation) maybe because of same dna or something. and the royal blood is the actual people who is the descendant from ymir fritz, which the only one who able to wield full founding titan power. i am referring to jacob"s answer that eldians are coming from 9 people that has titan power.

2:16:37 all is now explained in the manga. brilliance. SPOILERS: Marley experimented with the Titan abilities, they gave Annie different things to eat. What I got from that is her, Reiner and Zeke all ate somethings related to the Warhammer Titan so they can harden into crystals like it. Or they could of all been injected with the Warhammer spinal fluid before eating their shifters. This is also why Falco got some bestial features when he turned into the Jaw, as he transformed into a mindless Titan via drinking Zeke's spinal fluid, but that's obvious.. So Rod had some spinal fluid from the Warhammer and labelled it "Armour" (perhaps labelled as such to keep the existence of the Warhammer a secret), Eren ate it and got a taste of the power. As for the other vile Kenny swiped from Rod's bag, and was used on Armin, I believe that to just be regular Titan spinal fluid, the type they use when they turn Eldians Titan on the shore of Paradis. :) Happy 2020!

This episode literally flips the entire premise of the story on its head. The story begins as the last refugees of humanity fight to survive in a world dominated by titans. In actuality, the world is dominated by an 20th century-like humanity, and the characters we have come to know are really a part of the "titans" of the story (the only people that can turn into man-eating monsters). This includes both the Eldians that remained on the continent and those that fled to a remote island, whose civilization was protected with three walls and the threat of ultimate retaliation, and whose memories were wiped to ensure those inside were never the wiser. Welcome to the true Attack On Titan!

What the hell was Caleb talking about when he said they needed to be trained with ODM gear? Does he not realize nobody in Marley has any idea what that even is because none of them have ever seen it? The Walls were completely isolated for 100 years, nobody knows what they're inventing over there, they needed something to fight the "mysterious titans" outside. The only reason Reiner/Bert/Annie could use it is because they literally joined the Wall's military as children and learned it at the same time as Eren and everyone else. I doubt Zeke has any fucking clue how to work that stuff at all. He didn't even know what the hell he was looking at when he first got here and took it from Miche.

The armour of the Armour titan and the crystal made by the other titans are not exactly the same. First of all, crystallization takes a lot of energy while the armour is automatically created during the transformation. But the crystal seems to be much harder than the armor. Also, the Armoured titan can also produce the crystal on will. Remember when he was scaling the wall.. About the "armour" label - my theory is that it is the spinal fluid from Armoured titan. Since the wall titans look exactly the same as collosal, we know that atleast in theory, that it is possible to create mindless titans with a shifter titan's attributes. Furthermore, I don't think that Eren just randomly drank that vial. He seemed to instinctively know what to do - similar to how he knew to bite his hand in S1 and to punch the smiling titan in S2.

There is an important line between "a memory ...so it was you Dina" in the manga that was cut off in this episode for some reason... In the manga when eren wook up from his dream, he said "a memory, *so* *everything* *in* *that* *book* *was* *true* *after* *all* ...so it was you Dina" which pretty much confirms that Eren brought those memories back by reading grisha's book.

When Grisha was asked by one of his compatriots how he could read the ancient language in the old scrolls/books, he said that HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL.He was just guestimating based on the pictures. Propaganda goes both ways. Marley thinks Eldians are the devil who plundered and murdered. Eldians think they brough civilization to the world. I really hope Jacob tells Caleb about that. Absolutely amazing discussion. I want to add my own little thought about the existence of Ackermans/Oriental clan (specifically the Ackermans) inside the walls. What if the Ackermans were the native people of Paradise island? This setup would perfectly reflect real history ONCE AGAIN in this show. People peacefully living on their little island, these Eldian invaders come and take their land, build their walls, and kill the native people because they can't control them (which stems from the fact that they're not of the same race, again, racial conflict). Its also stated in the first part of season 3 that the Ackermans were soldiers of the king, and that they protected him. This could be these native people trying to compromise with the invaders by protecting them, so that they won't kill them. But the Eldians do kill them eventually, because it all boils down to power and control. The Ackermans are STRONG, and no matter how loyal they claim to be, they can't TRULY be controlled by the king. It makes sense, why they were chased away and killed. Edit: I'm a transcendent madlad!

2 hours and a half of this?? Hell yes!! "Eren... if you think killing these two will bring an end to everything...you're gravely mistaken." -Ymir, 2x09 "Enemy? If I said that, the--" -Also Ymir, 2x09 So guess we know who the "real enemy" is now. It was the world all along! And Ymir was right. Even if Eren killed Reiner and Bertholdt, he'd be gravely mistaken that everything will finally come to an end. It would not fix the world's perception of their race. The world hates them and sees them as monsters. They were the "evil monsters" that the world wanted to save humanity from... If this was the reality (what Grisha and Fay experienced...god, that poor girl) that people like Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, and Ymir had to face, then it was indeed a cruel world they were living in. Bertholdt's inner monologue during "Descent" has so much weight now... Finding out who the Smiling Titan was was heartbreaking, especially knowing what happened to her in the end. She unknowingly killed her husband's second wife, killed Hannes, and then died by Eren's hand when he set the titans on her. The only positive was her finally being set free from her nightmare through death... Also, loved the fact that all the mindless titans we see here showed up in S1! The Santa Claus Titan that ate Eren, the big-eyed titan that ate Gross was the titan that ate Mina Carolina, and there's also another titan that ate Thomas. It's just so awesomely crazy!
