@@kei-sy2zt Though I get what you mean, in Louis's case this isn't necessarily a SoS thing though. Louis is consistently that one character people generally dislike but grow to love, and from the perspective of someone that only watched the first episode, I can honestly understand mainly because it's from the next episode onwards where you really begin to see signs as to how his character is going to be established. Pretty certain they'll change their minds on him based on how they tend to view character portrayals.

- It's funny how we're starting an anime that tackles speciesism just as this racial rights movement is happening across America. - I love this shot at 13:51​ - we hear Legosi's growl and see its menace reflected in Kai's reaction. But Legosi's face is turned away from Louis and us, the audience, being the side of him he does not want to reveal; yet he cannot escape his alter ego, as we still catch a glimpse of it in the mirror. - _"Is that Bakugo?"_ - his voice is so instantly recognizable in every series he's in, isn't it?

WiruSenpai it’s because it was a action show for the most part. They had a lot of well shot scenes because of that. Beastars isn’t about gems fighting aliens and so they are utilizing the 3D elsewhere. The animators still wanna stretch there limbs so to speak. The scene in the gym and Legoshi breathing in the scent. So it isn’t as demanding of constant animation like HnK needed. I’m only one episode in and I’m going to assume more those unique acspects come out.

He does progress though and like all things in this show characters don’t act a certain way for no reason, avoiding spoilers of course but he will progress like all other characters which of course may change your opinion as time goes on. There’s something that this show is good at and that’s manipulating opinions, along side some very good character progression.

And the problem with that would be, "who says a deer can't be dominate and strong"? As in, there is the preconception in your words that "not like a deer" means domineering, while "like a deer" means the opposite. And that's the start of the stereotype right there.

Thematically, one of Beastars' most interesting aspect is how it leverages the animal angle to create multiple metaphors. There's the obvious racism allegories, but the Herbivore vs Carnivore thing is also frequently applied to themes on gender and "predatory males". But at the same time, the realities of the setting make it not all JUST a metaphor. The species in Beastar have legitimately different biology, and the predators DO in fact have built-in murderous desires, which are two things you really can't apply to real-world racial issues (could be a hyperbole for men vs women though). It creates an interesting blend of real-world commentary, but also just narratively interesting world-building.

What a lot of series like Beastars does is equate the predator prey dynamic as a 1:1 ratio with racial prejudice, and while you can certainly touch on those subjects as Beastars does, what I really like what Beastars does is that they maintain that the predator prey dynamic is a real and constant biological reality throughout the series.

I've never gone so fast from dismissing an anime completely to unreasonably loving it to the point that it became contender for my anime of the year. It had all the flags, cg, antropomorphic animals (i literally called it "furryshit") and promo that didn't explain anything (thankfully tho, since spoilers are a big no-no) that made me go "probably not my cup of tea, why waste time ?". Oh boy, was i ever wrong ! It's a ride. Enjoy !

Btw, due to the Hungarian-naming origin - Legosi is apparently pronounced “Leh-go-shee,” and is spelled “Legoshi” in the official localizations to avoid this confusion. (“Leh-go-see” would be spelled as “Legoszi” in Hungarian.)

I love how this show not only uses the anthropomorphic animals as a metaphorical plot device, which is a great narrative tool per se, but also works at face value. I mean, shows like Zootopia and many others that use animals as a metaphor to represent human society, class, ethnicity, are great because they allow for spectators to get rid of a lot of their bias. As much as we try not to, we are doomed to be influenced in our judgement by our personal upbringing, education, experiences and ideas. By representing social issues like xenophobia, bullying, violence, abuse... with animals, a show shifts the perspective of the viewer by pretty much mostly remove a lot of bias and preexisting ideas and give him a more detached, metaphorically more distant perspective, so that we can give a less biased judgement and then draw back again parallels to real life and see how such a detached perspective changes our reactions. But no, this show also works on another layer entirely. By bringing up instincts, we are reminded that, as much as we think of ourself as detached from the animal kingdom and an entirely different being, because that's how our society teach us to think, we ARE, in fact, animals ourselves. We are mammals. We are primates. We are just as much animals as a dog or a bunny is. And, boy, do we have instincts. If someone is interested in psychology, you would see that, when studying human behaviour, the truth is that A LOT of our behaviour is actually based on sheer animal instinct, that we then tend to justify by giving retroactively, in afterthought, lots of intellectual justifications and meanings. Truth is, when someone flirts with your fiance and you get all angry, when someone bumps your car while driving and you go at it, when you approach a person you like, when you are stressed out and stuff your face to cope with it, there's mostly instinct involved. That's not the neo cortex intellectual doing, but the base, more powerful, thought-overpowering beastly instinct, that breaks through and mandates your actions. Reproductive instinct, hunting, self-preservation, are all powerful drives that mandate our actions daily. This show is very thought-provoking.

Beastars isn't only a really good anime, but an opera with incredible potential. I'm currently reading the manga, and i can tell you that it only gets better and better. It deals with topics and characters in a way i haven't seen in a long time, and if the anime will continue to be faithful to the source material, it's going to be something that will be remembered in the next years as much as other great operas. So i really recommend to check the evolution of the saga for the future, because it has so much more to offer than people think.

24:28 Looks like a PSYCHOpath to me, rather than a sociopath. The two are often mistaken for each other. The apparently calm and collected but actually cold and emotionless ones, capable of perfectly passing for normal but potentially sadistic are PSYCHOpaths. Sociopaths, on the contrary, are hardly mistaken for being normal, because they are extremely impulsive and prone to fits of rage. They are very impulsive.

In this scene where Legosi threw himself at the haru (preferably at the beginning of the episode) see where the wolf's teeth are located. This adds more depth to the scene and Legosi's character.
