All devils are born with names. Fun little thing I'm only noticing now. Denji's weapon of choice in his human form is an axe, but he turns into Chainsaws, both tools originally for cutting down trees. One could consider a chainsaw a "powered up" axe, just as Chainsaw Man is Denji's "powered up" form. This has absolutely no bearing on the story, but is a cool little detail. Also, the quote about devil names doesn't necessarily refer to any fate ordained birth or godlike choices. When a concept is created, the devil is created, and the devil is only as powerful as people generally fear the concept. For example, on the day the car was invented, the car devil would be born, but it would now be a decently strong devil because people have come to fear cars. Yet still much weaker than more feared concepts like Bats or Blood.

33:59 "Oh wait, this is much bigger than what it appears on the surface" is good to realize early with CSM. There are lots of small details in off-hand comments that gets your mind wandering if you keep thinking about it. All Devils are born with names One subtle thing I really liked was that when Denji realizes Power lied to him and they both go for their weapons, we see Denji move before Power. It’s a nice “Han shot first” type of thing that you don’t often see from main characters, especially in battle shonen.

He's doing a great job at voicing Denji especially that it's a character whose lines and voice needs to carry a lot of personality and he NAILS it. *FUN FACT* : Denji is his first ever LEAD role in the anime industry. He has previously played minor roles such as "Customer A" and "Male Student" from Heroine Tarumono and a "protestor" from Tokyo 24th Ward. I'm glad he finally got his major va debut and the recognition he deserves. All devils are born with names. This show had a lot in terms of character dynamics (Aki and Makima having a somewhat candid boss-subordinate relationship with him being able to question her; Power utterly fearing Makima, what the heck did she do to her; Denji and Power becoming to understand each other), but one that may be somewhat underappreciated is devils vs. Denji. We saw the Zombie and Bat Devil both feared him a lot in their final moments; could that fear become a source for his own power? Also, Makima's own bosses mentioned the SOVIET UNION, not Russia. What time period is this in, or is it 20XX-but-alternate-reality-due-to-devils? Curious. Final point - blood is important to devils, e.g. healing. What potential abilities could the Blood Fiend, Power, have access to beyond simple bloodbending?

regarding the questions without spoiling, the power / makima question will take a couple of seasons or so to answer, as for the ussr, it is just an alternate world thing that we get to touch on sooner or later, regarding power's blood bending, it doesnt expand too too far from that.Their fear of denji is partly because theyre about to die, and mostly because of something else :) Of course i wont answer the questions for the sake of spoilers, but all of these get answered in the series so rest assured
@shoppincarties2 жыл бұрын
MASSIVE SPOILERS, incase anyone else wants answers to these questions now and dont want to wait for upcoming seasons to answer them: power is afraid of makima because shes an extremely powerful devil ( the control devil ) and she can basically control anything as long as she thinks she is superior than them. The devils become terrified of denji's transformation because the chainsaw devil is a massive hero of sorts in hell, and anything he consumes becomes forgotten, and makima is especially interested in denji for that fact

Fact: sometimes when possessing a corpse, the original personality or some part of it can linger in the body, only that tho, no memories or whatsoever. Like Aki said, devilmen are still devils, but also different from them, since they are born from a merge of the devil and the corpse, the devil side Is often dominant. How much personality is still there ? It can only depend. Power here for exemple may love cats because the girl the blood devil possessed used to love cats

All devils are born with names. I'm an anime only so I'm just speculating. But I think Makima's point with the Car devil is the potential fear people feel for a name. Like there are probably so little people scared of coffee that it would be weak. But with cars, your aware of the capability of what a car could do. We might drive them and they're everywhere but that doesn't take away the potential of them being lethal. If you are standing on a highway and see cars, you'd be scared. If someone says "person A was hit by a car" you'd immediately think that they were dead or seriously hurt. We all subconsciously or consciously know the possibilities of what a car could do to a person. It's kind of like how most bats aren't even lethal. But since we have concepts like vampires or other things, most people have a negative connotation of bats. So that's probably why the bat devil was so powerful. That conversation was really interesting because it shows how connotations of words affect the power of a devil.

All Devils are born with names One thing the anime has shown me that I didn’t fully see in the manga is this idea of how we treat our pets or animals in general. An extreme example is Makima who refers to her squad members as dogs that need to be trained and put to work or be killed. Then you have Power someone who as she put, “killed everything that met her gaze”, and here we see her forming an emotional connection with an animal she had every intention of killing (btw the track that plays over the flashback is my favourite so far). Then we have Pochita who has literally become the beating heart of the show, saving Denji’s life while simultaneously freeing him from the hell that was his current life style into an equally dangerous yet more comfortable one. I could be reaching but the way Fujimoto writes these relationships between human, animal and devil are really something special in my eyes

My wife and I spent two months looking for our cat Cinder after her Mom’s boyfriend (who was cat-sitting while we were camping) let him out of their house on accident and didn’t notice for the whole fucking day. We found him, but it was probably the most miserable two months of my life and maybe the hardest I’ve ever worked on anything. Like, my Wife and I were sleeping in shifts, checking traps and cameras every two hours, we made new giant posters every week and put them up. And yeah, I couldn’t really just *go to sleep* I had to stay up all night and overload myself with exhaustion to get there. Poor Power. @@takanara7 Well we got the neighborhood really involved with it. We put up giant signs on neon poster-board and started getting calls. Someone a couple blocks over got a sighting of him on their Ring camera, so we asked permission to trap around their house and then put up new signs saying that we’d had a sighting and we hadn’t given up. That didn’t end up panning out, although we did find two other cats, one feral who we brought in to get spayed, and one who had been lost for so long the owner had stopped looking. Reuniting them was great, a bright spot in a really shitty period. About two weeks after that we got a call from a woman who thought she’d seen our Cinder in her backyard, the picture she sent didn’t really look like him and we almost didn’t follow up, but my wife pointed out that we literally had nothing else to go on so we went over. The lady showed us to her backyard and we started walking down to where she’d seen him, our plan was to set up new traps and wildlife cams. I heard meowing though, backed up a couple steps, and there he was, hiding between a raised garden bed and a shed. We’d walked right by him without noticing but he’d seen us and started calling. Happiest moment of my life probably. When I think on it, a blood devil would be powerful in a similar but more fundamental way than a chainsaw devil. The sight of blood is enough to make some people pass out, and there's an instinctive fear to it from far beyond tools, weapons, and ideas ever drew fear into us humans. In the same way, though, there's a respect and need for that very same blood as long as violence isn't associated with it. I hope the plot goes in this direction as I really like Power's character.

All Devils Are Born With Names. The thing that makes Denji so interesting as a protagonist and character is on full show here. He, in the same sentence basically says "Gimme my tits back" and sympathizes with Power and shows attachement and understanding to her plight, because it's similar to his. He shows disregard for others he doesn't know. He's the best type of showing a human character: Selfish and interested in his life and goals as a priority, but able to build connections and constantly evolving. The encounter with Aki and the talk they had already upgraded him from "I want nothing else" to "I want this thing" (the fact that it's boobs is inconsequencial, in fact it's even more admirable, since it's something he thought of himself and decided he wanted for himself, a small bit of freedom for the dog). I can't wait to see how he's gonna evolve with each encounter and conversation he has.

All Devils are born with names. In this episode we learned that devils gain their power from fear. The more humanity as a collective fears the thing the devil represents, the more powerful the devil is. In other words, devils gain their powers from humanities' perception of them - bats really aren't all that dangerous, but because they're so creepy, the Bat Devil we saw in this episode was pretty darn powerful. And as Makima points out, Denji can turn into the Chainsaw Devil. The chainsaw, which is feared as an all time great weapon of horror and the slasher villain (Texas Chainsaw Massacre being example 0). But something occurred to me last night - namely, if devils gain power from how humanity percieves them, what about the other perception of the chainsaw in culture? Because the other way chainsaws appear in culture is as the weapon of the brutal hero (DOOM, Ash and the Evil Dead as the two prime examples). And quite frankly, if we're going by the amount of violence that these chainsaw-wielding characters inflict, the only difference is on who's getting torn apart. So I guess the question is which one is Denji going to live up to, and which one does Makima want? Makima, after all, doesn't need a human hero - as she's said many times before, she needs a dog.

All devils are born with names! An interesting thing to note is that, when Makima's talking about Denji and Power, she uses the counter 匹 (hiki) to refer to them instead of the counter 人 (nin) that's typically used for humans. Hiki's most often used to refer to small to medium-sized non-human creatures (including dogs, like the military men are talking about).

All devils are born with names There's probably people who have cleared this up but in the instance that no one has, what gives the devils its strength is specifically the FEAR behind that concept, and concept is used specifically here because a devil can also be based on a non-physical thing such as the fear of the unknown. Fear is a universal emotion, therefore language barriers and what not would not interfere in the strength of a devil. Lastly, this is one of the most brilliant power systems I've personally seen due to the fact that devils will naturally only get stronger. If their strength is based off of human fear, then the devil has more power to terrorize humans which will further increase humanity's fear of that devil and the cycle continues. I hope this helped a little!

All devils are born with names Hey guys, loving the reactions to the series so far. I am also coming into this series completely blind, so it’s been a wonderful time watching it in sync with you. One thing that I thought was interesting was Denji’s fixation on Power’s breasts throughout this episode coinciding with his failed attempts to connect with her. Whenever denji was frustrated with power or unable to empathize with her ( like when she lied earlier or that lovely scene on the train where there was such a stark divide between the two) Denji’s eyes almost immediately drifted to her breasts. It makes me think this is intentional, showing denji reducing power to “hot boobs girl” since he cannot successfully form an emotional attachment to her, and it makes me curious if his view of her sexually will change if he begins to form a meaningful bond with her. Considering what I’ve heard about this series regarding characters and detail, it wouldn’t surprise me.

All devils are Born with Names Leave it to Naruto to save an entire village FULL of people or Deku saving a whole city from villains, meanwhile denji “if it doesn’t have boobs , I DON T NEED IT!!” and throwing the car with the Poor dude at the Bat Devil 🤣🤣

All devils are born with names. And indeed, the more fearful the name, the more powerful the devil. Hence, an intelligent devil would make an effort to cultivate a fear for its name in human society to become even stronger. It is likely that the zombie devil would have been a lot more powerful a few years back, and has grown so weak due to media oversaturation that it had to resort to tricking the yakuza to get smoe pawns. On that note, it's interesting how both the zombie and the bat devil seemed to grow scared of the chainsaw devil in the middle of their fight, just before their defeats. If fearsomeness is our tool for power scaling in this story, then it makes sense that Makima would be intereested in Denji because of this. Also, this helps us speculate on future devils! You joked about Murica using a nuke devil or a justice devil, but I'd think they go for the much more universal, if not even primordial fear that could be born as the war devil. This series could absolutely go into some dark and metaphysical places, and boobs are sooner or later not gonna cut it as motivation when we're dealing with the pandemic devil, the inevitability of death devil, or worst of all, the tax devil!

"All devils are born with names" a bit of toughts about power, since she's a fiend which is a devil that took over dead body, the body power took over probably was a murder victim since she got no clothing,covered in dirt, and stranded in the middle of nowhere. I bet they didn't expect the corpse they hid reanimated as a fiend , or possibly the murderer got killed as she reanimate while they hid the corpse.

The Devils power is tied to their name rather than the word. So a devils initial power is basically the fear of the concept, but if a devils actions causes it to be feared more or less, then its power will change accordingly. Past this point is some explanations of the devils that will come later on, but is not very spoilery to learn nowm You are pretty close to spot on saying power is an individual. One detail is that the devils themselves are individuals, but its unknown if the fiend is the same individual or a new one. So we dont know if Power's personality is from being the current incarnation of the blood devil, or from becoming the blood fiend. And yes, devils have incarnations, otherwise the series would be focused on wiping them out entirely rather than dealing with them as they come.

All devils are born with names. That’s an interesting thing to bring up because it’s never hard explained and I will not give spoilers, but the thing that gives strength and potency is the fear behind the CONCEPT in the name. That is how it can not only transcend language barriers, but species barriers. Also, because it’s never hard confirmed but important to the setting, this story takes place in an alternate 1990s timeline. Hence the high tops and lack of cell phones and internet. Again, no spoilers, just theory bait, but there might be a reason why this is an alternate timeline.

All devils are born with names - Basically the way that the devil names work- it's less about the devil names themselves, and more the concepts they're named after. For example, with the idea of the car devil and the bat devil, society as a whole would have a greater fear of cars. Sure some people are scared of bats, and a bat devil may sound scarier, but the devils' power comes from the fear of the concept that the devil is named after, not necessarily the devil itself. Love your discussions!! :)

All devils are born with names As a manga reader, I’m really loving your reactions! I will say, most of your predictions on both Makima and the international direction of the story will only come into play later in the story, which many manga readers(including myself) predict will only come in the second cour, which WILL end the first part. Still, hold fast to those predictions! Even if they may not be answered, there will certainly be breadcrumbs, and they’re fun to listen to.
@PT-jh4to2 жыл бұрын
All devils are born with names. Just a small clarification, but a devil's power is indeed tied to the _concept_ that the name is representing, so language barriers aren't a limitation. The only thing that really matters is how many people know about, and fear, a specific concept. In the manga, when Makima mentioned the Car Devil, it was much clearer that she was talking in "maybe"s (the thought of being run over is pretty scary, so MAYBE it would be strong). However accidents don't necessarily happen, and they're not the first thing that comes to your mind when you think "CAR". it's likely that the Car Devil wouldn't be too strong (although not as weak as the Tomato Devil), and cars being used by many people everyday would absolutely lower its power.

“All Devils Are Born With Names” One thing that was sneakily brought up during Makima’s discussion with the higher-ups is the mention of not just America, but the Soviet Union. Which, was dissolved during the early nineties. And going by how blocky the cars look, and how no one seems to use or mention smart phones, points to the idea that Chainsawman’s world doesn’t take place in our modern day. Which is a blessing in disguise cause now we don’t have to fret over the eldritch all-consuming horror that would’ve been, the Twitter Devil.

"All Devils are born with names." I really like this sort of power system that feels very devilish and is based on fear of the name. Now this is just my opinion, correct me if I am wrong but I feel that it's not necessarily the language for the name of the devil that's important but rather the concept. When Makima made comparison of Coffee and Car Devil, she didn't really say that Car Devil would be very powerful, but compared to coffee Devil it will be. And since other countries were mentioned, I assume that the fear of all humanity probably makes the devil as powerful as they are. My theory is that a new devil is born when a fear for a new thing is born, but that's just me. There should also be a reviving mechanism for Devils, since they have not all been hunted down after seemingly being in the world for a long time. Also I don't know why you guys are adamant about Makima being a devil, since currently there is no indication for her being one. Honestly she currently feels like just a more neutral version of Gojo. There was also the scene with the higher ups, where they said to her to not get attached to these hounds which seemingly irked her when she was calling Denji interesting. No idea if I am right though.

Because we learned all devils have names and they become stronger the more people fear them, I find it interesting that devils can be born from fictional things i.e zombies. So devils aren't bounded to just normal fears but fears that are abstract concepts. So as long as theres fear about that specific thing, there will be a devil for it. Probably not that relevant but just an interesting thought
@zocario99552 жыл бұрын
All devils are born with names When it comes to things like the theoretical car devil, the fear that devils prey on is also subconscious fears and things that you don't think about. People generally wouldn't be afraid of cars, but if one is driving straight towards you, even if they stop before hitting you, most people would still call it a scary situation. It's not just phobias that strengthen a devil, indirect fear through fears of pain, disfigurement and death also strengthen the car devil in turn.

ALL DEVILS ARE BORN WITH NAMES Your idea about Makimas powers and like her being a devil made me think a bunch about how humans fight in this world, like I think Makima being a devil could be possible, like she does have weird eyes like power but it was stated in episode 2 that all devils, or well fiends have a very particular head, like power has horns, but she kinda looks regular? She did mention her sense of smell in episode 1 but i can't think of the sense of smell being scary so idk. Also if she isn't a devil, like I assume the other dude who got kicked in the nuts isn't, then how do they fight devils? Weapons? Can they use the power of devils like some jjk or bleach stuff? I'm really curious to know what you think about this because I just have so many ideas going around its crazy. (Also the code should have been POWER PADDING or something, but whatever).

All devils are born with names Chainsaw man takes place in the year 1997. Thus sadly Denji does not have access to the internet and the only phones around are those older button phones. So he can't look up opai online which is why those porn mags were so important to him. They were a rare form of art more important than his own life.

All Devils Are Born With Names The whole relationship between perception and fear of a known thing, and it's corresponding devil's strength, was definitely the first big thing to hook me reading the manga as it was translated. Denji being able to draw on the fear of chainsaws works better with the context that Fujimoto the author is a big film buff. Chainsaws in movies are always the instruments of killers. Regardless of the very rational fear of a large, difficult to control tool, the popular perception of the chainsaw as an instrument of murder pretty much ensures that Denji probably won't be top dog as far as fears go But he'll always be strong enough to hang in there

All devils are born with names. Not sure we have to worry about the social media meme war, csm is set during the 80's - 90's since the U.S.S.R is still around. Speaking of the whole fear of a devils name thing, Fujimoto is a HUGE movie fan so even if Pochita's name as a devil was the chainsaw devil, I almost view him more as the "horror movie" devil. But yeah pretty good ep, pretty exited for the next episode so we can meet the rest of the characters from the op. (Edit) Accidently wrote "all born with names" as the codeword, lol
