Kinda surprised you didn't talk about it, but first thing i thought when Himeno took Denji home was "damn, she sees all the time how everyone thinks about Makima and ignores her, so in her moment of weakness she's trying to convince HERSELF that she's deserving attention. That she's attractive, that ppl are interested in her etc". Maybe i'm mentally young, but instead of feeling "it's a bit pedo, m'am", I felt for her a bit. 2. I ADORE how the series meta-communicates that every hunter who didn't die simply has to get hooked on something. Drugs, sex, alcohol, violence maybe, smokes. They might look like regular ppl, but they're deeply flawed and broken when you see past the facade. Reminds me of what Kenny said in AOT (being drunk on something to carry on). PS. One is between him and Aki, where Aki was doing regular stuff like throwing orange or apple peel away and Denji's like "hey there's nutrition in there! Lemme have it" and the last panel is him wanting Aki's scab, and Aki's like "no... what life have you been living...? There was another about food between him and pochita making 'cake' too but that's just showing how they rly don't know what cake is like (editor-san, if you could include the page it'd be neat!)

Barf Kiss Just so you guys know, that barf scene was not censored in the manga. But honestly, seeing it in motion with voice acting and all makes up for the lost grossness tenfold. If there's anything to know about the mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto's works, it's that they're weird. Super weird. Weird to the point that you kind of have to just accept anything that comes your way, so be prepared (not that you can be when it comes to his stuff). This is the guy who the only video we have of him is him attempting to levitate, he pretended to be his fake little sister on twitter (funnily enough, the shitshow that is twitter right now took down his account recently, probably because of that), and he had once eaten his dead pet fish, so you can expect wild things from him in his stories. Quite literally anything can be on the table at any moment.

I bet the author of chainsaw man is good in showing us the art of irony; aki, who shows no emotion but a baby sitter and sacrifice himself for denji, himeno seemed easy go lucky but carries the trauma of her partners' death, power is so chaotic but a cat lover, makima being so caring yet entimidating and denji laughing at rats eating vomit yet accidentally swallowed pukes from his first kiss.

Barf Kiss i was commenting this episode with my friends and one thing that i found hilarious is we ALL had a different gross vomit story. nothing of this level, thank god, but stupid situations envolving puke are a pretty common human experience. it's nice when art reflects that (sorry, denji). also, the reactions every character had to the barf kiss are such good insights into their characters. we had people straight up laughing (power, the short-haired woman), some were horrified (kobeni) -- and my favorite ones: the people that did not react AT ALL (makima, Big Guy). imagine the amount of bullshit they have seen on this job to be so monotone about this.

I think the implication is that he's already drunk from the barf kiss, which doesn't make any sense in reality since he puked it all out instantly afterwards but it appears to be the case nonetheless so Himeno is just trying to be sexy/give him some liquid but she just happens to drink more so she's giving him beer. I guess what I'm trying to say is that is the least problematic part of that interaction.

"barf kiss" im really glad that youre picking up on the power dynamics and genuine discomfort this is supposed to invoke. few reactors have done so, even though its so obvious-probably because the show does play with the stereotype that teenage boys molested by adult women are "lucky". himeno strongly reminds me of misato from evangelion, including how messed up she is, her terrible coping mechanisms, and using a teen boy as an emotional crutch (and being very inappropriate towards him). i do have a lot of love for her as a character, she is very human and messed up even if that doesnt excuse her actions. but really, is the way she behaves so out of line with a workplace that has essentially enslaved a teenage boy to use him as a weapon? food for thought.

"Barfkiss" The fact that the Eternity Devil clearly knew who the Chainsaw Devil was brings up a bunch of interesting implications, not least of all that they might've even met before? Back in episode 3, Makima stated that, according to the rule of "the more a devil is feared, the stronger it becomes", a Chainsaw Devil would be quite strong. Could Pochita have been way stronger than he appeared to be, or maybe he had somehow lost majority of his power, or maybe there is just something way different going on? Heck, maybe the Chainsaw Devil was once *the* bigshot of the devils before the appearance of the Gun Devil knocked it down from that pedestal? Maybe all the devils who've gotten power from the Gun Devil are after him to take out the former top devil once and for all, mayhaps on the Guns behalf? Who knows, I certainly don't, we'll just have to wait and see!

If you look at the scene again, she is force feeding Denji alcohol (she takes a big sip of beer or another beverage and you see some of it going down Denjis Cheek). In the manga they make it very clear that she does this quite a few times with Denji and this is why Denji says his "head is spinning". Really doesn't shine a good light on Himeno ...

🤮barf kiss💋 I can't speak for other people's reactions to the series, but I never get the sense of all the sexual advances made on denji being even a little bit wish-fulfillment-y, not even that incredibly intimate makima scene a few episodes back. those scenes are effective to me in a way that's like seeing a disaster in slow motion. denji being constantly taken advantage of left and right by the people above him, and being so very susceptible. I read the manga way back and forgot about the moment where himeno uses the ghost hand to pull his ripcord, and I think that's a brilliant bit of imagery that sorta encapsulates the treatment of denji so far throughout the story; people pulling at his heart to rev this boy up so that he can kill the big strong devils they need him to kill. maybe a bit of a stretch, but I think it's fitting.

I think there is an important point, denji although he is a minor, he is not in the best environment, he is surrounded by older people with different behaviors and attitudes, they do what they want because they can die at any time, denji is already in an adult world therefore I see normal that he is in situations like this, nothing is normal in his life and in my opinion the others see him as someone older in terms of his thinking that has had to manage just to survive ... in a way he is not a "normal child" and less his life.

As you remember the Nut Devil thing from Episode 2 this and that are going to be connected (don't worry there isn't a Nut Devil). “Bark Kiss” remember from episode 1 that Denji made a contract with the Chainsaw devil Pochita so that they both could “live”, a blood pact, hence why he gets his buzzing on in turn for his blood as a fuel for the chainsaw I guess. So Denji, is as you say, a devil hunter and has a contract with one and also can transform into one, without the constraint of being taken over, ie a fiend…sooo 4 in 1? ❤

Barf kiss... By the way... the ending theme.... the hook to the song is a pun... It says: "Ge-ge-gero ge-ge-gero-chu" and the subtitles translated it as "Get on get on chu", but... "Gero" means vomit (or the sound of throwing up), and "chu" means kiss (or the sound of kissing) So.... a "gerochu" would be a.... "barf kiss"

"Barf Kiss" Aside from the fact Himeno actually knows how to loose her screws, I want to point out the 'fear' stuff. Although Arai, Kobeni and even Himeno were freaked out from the situation with the Eternity Devil, they were afraid of Denji once he transformed into Chainsaw. Even though we cannot say for sure from the scene, do you think this made Denji stronger or made the Eternity Devil weaker because they could have forgotten their fear of the Eternity Devil temporarily. Do you have this kind of experience like the scarier event made you forget the previous one? For example, since I'm living in Japan I have experienced earthquakes many times, but after the first wave is over, I don't care about the second wave but a tsunami. Sorry for my poor English.

Great episode and great reaction! I just want to say that the subtitles for the ending song says "Get on chu", but it functions as a pun because "get on" is pronounced "gero", and that means "barf" in Japanese. The Japanese subtitles supports this (along with the visuals). And since "chu" means kiss, the song is basically saying b-b-barf kiss!

Barfkiss Has anyone else notised parallels between this show and devilman? One interestin parallel I found is: Akira Fudo is a devil with a heart of a human whilst Denji is a human with the heart of a devil (metaphorically and literally). Ryo is also the opposite of Makima. A manipulator who only cares about Akira.

Here it is,the famous scene everyone has been waiting for YEARS to be animated,and it's a woman puking into a guy's mouth. Funny thing is that this is pretty much your average Fujimoto moment. He likes to write weird ass shit sometimes,and we still love him for it. His motto is " I want to write scenes that will stick in my readers' minds until the day they die!" and he clearly achieved that here! I imagine a lot of fans knew that the song titled "all kinds of kisses" was gonna be used for this episode's ending LMAO This entire part of the manga is a perfect example of Fujimoto's incredible storytelling: like how Power's joke about getting the Noble prize last episode is already an amazing bit by itself,but it also works as setup for Denji's punchline about the perpetual motion machine. So good. Or even the fact that Himeno's master's teachings about "hunters with a screw loose" has already been shown (not told) to us throught the series,what with both the Zombie and Bat Devil immediately becoming scared shitless once they realize they can't understand what makes Denji tick. Or how you can tell Himeno resigns in defeat at trying to persuade Aki to leave Public Safety with just one look,and is then perfectly complimented with her finding hope in the fact that Denji may just be the person who can kill the Gun Devil,and in turn,save Aki from his own path of self-destruction. I love that entire sequence at the bar too,it feels so human. The sad realization that Kobeni has to wear her sister's hand-me-downs because she can't buy her own clothes,given that she sends her entire earnings to her family,or Denji not even being sure of his own age. All the while people become awkward drunks and some weird,make-out sessions are maybe involved. And also some immoral relations with older women too,I guess. I don't know how he does it,but Fujimoto really pulls you into the scene with these people you barely even know,really. Big props for his use of flashbacks,once again: not only is Denji crying into the toilet because he's throwing up,but because he was just reminded that he might have failed Pochita one more time,while trying to reach his dream;he lowered himself to the thing he used to make fun of even as a dirt poor kid,and realized that a grander life has just as much disappointment as anything else,and it's amazing. Yeah,it's an absurd coming of age story,but one that against all odds ends up feeling a lot more down to earth for it. Life is just that crazy sometimes,and bad experiences will stick with you too.

"Barf Kiss" It's weird with the fans and community with how they either 100% hate or defend Himeno after this episode, they don't realize we all could just hate a character's action without hating the character as a whole, is Himeno's action of intoxicating Denji, bringing him to her home, and attempt to do sexual stuff to him wrong? Absolutely. Can we still enjoy her character's story? Yes, we absolutely still can. Not everything has to be black and white, that's the appeal of morally grey characters and one of the reason why GoT and HotD has so many fanbase, I myself enjoy the character of Rudeus from Mushoku Tensei where if anyone watch it, they will know Rudeus is absolutely far worse than Himeno, but I still enjoy his story of trying to redeem himself and start a new life.

Barf Kiss I think there's a higher chance than 25% for him to say yes because he's DRUNK right now. His first drunk even. I don't know if it was from gulping down Himenos alcohol infused vomit, or from Himenos alcohol-full tongue kiss, but now that he's experiencing his first time being drunk I think his mind is probably not in a very good place and he might not be thinking of the lessons he's learned from Makima. Makes the whole end scene a bit more sketchy, I really like Himeno so hoping she doesn't go through with this with a minor!

Barfkiss In the flashback with Himeno and her superior he said she didn't have a screw loose. Maybe that's why she gets in these positions "as stated at the party" with several of her co-workers, in some messed up way to get her screws loosened to fit in better and more likely to survive.
