I think they are talking about the wit studio's recent financial instability. Their one of the core beliefs was to create freedom projects but they were later losing that but with spyXfamily they are looking to come back in that sense.

You are correct, Yuki Kaji is the voice actor for Daida. Also: Kage is voiced by Ayumu Murase who voiced Hinata in Haikyu, King Bosse is voiced by Kenta Miyake who voiced All Might in MHA, and the blond guy who remembered seeing Bojji evading the snakes is voiced by Daiki Yamashita who voiced Izuku Midoriya in MHA. (Obviously those aren't their only roles, just the ones probably most recognizable here) Another cool thing: The Tokyo Federation of the Deaf supervises the sign language (actual JSL) used in the anime, and the key animator working on the sign language parts is Hiromi Yoshida, who is herself hard of hearing and fluent in JSL. 😊 ETA: Regarding the name, 'Ousama' is equivalent to "King" so the title in English is a pretty direct translation. "King Ranking" All that said, gird your emotional loins and hold on to your butts, y'all are in for one hell of a ride. 😁

Wit has not went under yet, but this anime was the one they created when they were dealing with their issues, kind of a last ditch effort if you will. So I'm super sad it didn't get super super popular cuz it's just so good! (I know they went on to work with cloverworks so they're probably doing a bit better financially now)

I think Ranking of Kings got way more popular than people thought it would, actually. I think there WERE people who saw the animation and didn't give it a chance, but I think MORE people watched it than people assumed would, because of the animation.

I personally like how they don’t do to much lip reading because lip reading has a lot of trouble with accuracy. Sign language is something that doesn’t get represented very often in animation so I’m always glad to see it.

Oooh, I didn't know this anime was on the docket, but I'm super pumped they're doing it. Guess since Fruits Basket is winding down, they needed something else to emotionally wreck them on a weekly basis. 😂 Aside from stunning animation, Ranking of Kings has some of the most complex, nuanced characterizations of any shounen (not even sure if we SHOULD call it a shounen) in the last decade. This show has a habit of flipping common tropes of Fairytale writing on its head. You intial judgement of a character (Positive, Intrigued or Negative) will not stick. A lot of variables go into decision making and you will see all of them. Its brilliant. Trivia for folks: The Manga is actually behind this anime in term of the story and I feel bad for saying this but the artstyle is not great lets just leave it at that. I guess it has a unique charm to it 🤷‍♂️
