One of the things I loves about Kuroki Gensai, is for an OP character he doesn't just one shot people effortlessly. He is defensive and alert and studies the movement of his opponent. He has the sense to block attacks instead of tanking them, and he's not arrogant. He is actually serious. All business, and all martial arts. You can hit him with whatever flashy gimmick you want, he's ready to block and parry and never let's his guard down.

Gensai's karate is some of the most beautiful fighting I've ever seen in anime. The cat stance, those parries, always staying in the right distance so that he can parry rather than block, and of course, the spear hand strike. This is why I like Kengan's 3D animation. The correct movement of bodies through physical 3D space allows for an accurate depiction of martial arts moves, their details and intricacies, at least so far as possible within the context of an exaggerated manga/anime like Kengan.

I love that Gensai is not only vastly technically skilled, he's also fucking STRONG. His punches repeatedly crater the ground, his parries hit like baseball bats, and every punch he lands is either a guaranteed knockout or a totally punctured organ or fractured bone. What I love about this show is the unpredictability of the fights. NOBODY expected Gensai to win this fight since he was going up against the main antagonist, but he pulled it off anyway. He even won the fight comfortably too 😂. Yeah this show is WAY BETTER than Baki. The plot is better, the characters have far more depth, and the fights are better. The only thing Baki does better is hype.

I knew I recognized Gensai’s voice. It was from a very obscure tv show I watched when I was a kid. Back when I was in church my aunt got me this dvd of a show called Angel Wars. It was this cgi show about angels like in the 31st century, the guy that plays Gensai, Pete Sepenuk played an evil character in that show called Morg. I distinctly remember as a kid his distinctive voice, and sure enough that’s him here. Crazy, but cool. His voice is very unique and fun to listen to.

I like how this fight demonstrates the difference in battle experience vs. inherent talent. Setsuna was making up moves on the fly and somehow making them work. Meanwhile due to Kuroki’s insane experience, He was still able to counter.
