I thought the sandworm mounting was so impactful compares to other forms of Dune media. Been a Dune fan since the Genesis game, but I could never truly believe that a big animal would be the key to military victory in the space age. But here they really felt like a force of nature, like the power of the mountain and the whirlwind was turned against their enemies. I finally believed it.

The worms breed under the sand. The baby worms extract all the moisture it can( reason why Arrakis is dry) This becomes a bubble under the sand. The build up of gases moves the bubble to the surface and it pops(spice blow) The sun dries the mixture of baby worm poop and afterbirth on the surface of the sand.

The space travel works on a fictional physical effect that allows the shields and antigrav devices and at high power "folding of space" guild navigators are just extreme mentats powerful enough to navigate space folds. W40k used that in the form of warp navigation problems.

Computers and AI are banned so Mentats and navigators use Spice to do calculations and plot hyperspace routes without colliding into obstacles.
@FryMonkey236 ай бұрын
Mentats use sapho juice to help them do calculations, and it stains their lips red. They also use spice for health reasons. Basically, all rich people in the dune universe take some amount of spice because it extends their lifespan. But spice doesn't really help much for calculations. The navigators use huge amounts to allow them to see the future slightly, so they can know which paths are safe.

For me Dune 2 felt rushed and choppy. Still one of the best Scifi films ever made tho. I've never read the book (can't stand the omniscient) so I couldn't fully understand characters' motivations as a result most of them seems to be driven by the plot not the other way around.
@AllBrixedUp6 ай бұрын
I felt like only the last third or so of the movie suffered from what you described but otherwise I agree.
