Wow, I was 12yrs old, we had a black and white tv and it was more than GREAT to see BLACK people in Prime time for an hour. That was more than rare, it was a POSITIVE shot to the SOUL. And we killed it! Integration was changing the landscape across the country and we were feeling that change had finally come. To see an hour of black people on TV was FANTASTICE and SOUL lifting. Especially for the elders, who had endured the most hardship of their life before change came in this way. Yeah, it was a black version of LAUGH-IN, but it had SOUL, from a SOULFUL people.
