The nut can only cause fret buzz on open strings, if you press down on a fret, your figner becomes the nut sort of. So if you have fret buzz while fretting it comes from the truss rod adjustment and/or the bridge height.

I REALLY liked this project, it goes to show that we are all different in our likes and what we prefer, I felt for you when the veneer didn't go the way you liked. I do like the color, with the new pickups, sounded mean and badass. The one thing I would have done differently, is added a clear coat that would have added depth on the flames on the veneer. That is what Ibanez does, they get depth to their finishes with that process. Just me, you have a nice top on that. Yes you would have had to wet sand it and buffer it etc. But the results would be pretty cool:) Anyway, I thought the end result was nice. One last thing, I have a new Ibanez guitar with Quantum pickups in it, and I hate them, muddy and not defined enough for me. So, I do not blame you taking out the minutemen pups. I am about to paint my new headstock, not spray it, but paint it, and watching you work on yours gave me some ideas. Great series! thanks!

Small tip for whoever ends up with this guitar with the original pickups. Paint the pickup feet with a black gloss marker so they don't stick out visually so much. This project turned out so great. Looks awesome.

How was your bridge/string height after removing the old finish? I removed the paint and sealer coat on an old Ibanez RG I was customising, I had a really tough time with it just like you did and once I got down to the bare wood then applied primer and paint etc, so much material had been removed from the top of the body that the bridge sat much lower than before so I had to raise the saddles significantly higher to compensate.

I second that it's a lot of time to sand down guitar body. Did same on my RG321. At first it was kinda easy. Then I realized it's huge pain. Wasted a LOT of time. In the end I realized that I could have saved a little time using another approach in choosing sandpaper, but that won't be huge deal. Definitely don't want to do this again. About the smell - could be oil. I had mine tung oiled and it still smells weird after more than 1 month.
@nasticanasta6 жыл бұрын
only a moron sands a bady....go to a furniture dip stripping shop, they strip the completely by dipping it in a solution, it removes every bit in the tiny nooks and crannies, completely clean and ready to do what you want...but only a complete dumbass uses sandpaper to remove paint or finish...lol
@ivanbardov6 жыл бұрын
@@nasticanasta IIRC, that Soulhenge guy (don't know his name) still had to sand guitar body in previous videos after using heat gun. And a lot of luthiers recommend to remove paint with sandpaper. @@darthshaggy9970 it was quite a wreck. Had to fill in a lot of big finish chips and now I am waiting for the automotive foil I ordered to arrive (I'm very bad with laquer). I also had to order new string holder blocks for the trem, because they were too rusty. Also did a fret job on it. Now it's okay. I'm putting in a Seymour Duncan alternative 8 into the bridge and a 59 into the neck position.
@luciencrestfallen11436 жыл бұрын
Seriously, i would not have done the project the way you did it, since your way was too time consuming. There are other more time saving ways to get the finish of the guitar. Plus that amount of glue you used to glue the top veneer onto the guitar was a mistake, that is the reason why it was bubbly. And also, the nut has nothing to do with the fret buzz if you fret the string, it only has to do with open strings. So maybe think about either setting it up properly, or if that does not help, level the frets.

Can you get better than American made pickups? No! But thats an unfair statement as you 100% can get pickups just as good in both sound and quality! I've got some made in Japan pickups and some custom made UK ones that are awesome. Are they better or worse sounding then the guitars I have with Seymour Duncan pups and DiMarzio pups? Not really, just different sounding! But just as high quality in build and audio. My BKP loaded guitars sound great too. I even have some pretty nice sounding cheapo Iron Gear pups in a couple of my upgraded budget guitars.
@RainMakeR_Workshop6 жыл бұрын
Actually the Custom Made UK ones are a bit higher build quality than the Duncans, DiMarzio's and other pups that I have. But thats because its a custom job, not mass produced. Though I'm sure a bespoke pup made anywhere by someone with skill, experience and pride in their work will be like that.
