In all fairness, it didn't go straight from Simon & Garfunkel to Pentatonix. Disturbed did an epic, dark cover of The Sound of Silence, and Pentatonix built on that to create this version. There have been thousands of covers of this song over the years, but Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed, and Pentatonix are the trinity.

Thank you for your honest reaction. What Art Garfunkel insisted on for their song was simplicity so people would think about the lyrics and not get lost on the emotion or the musicality. So they stripped the musical interpretation to a haunting minor harmony, natural key changes for each of their voices, and simple rhythm changes. What the song lacked was dynamics and musical color. Because of Pentatonix perfect timing they can articulate the words while adding these elements to increase the interpretation of each lyric including the warm and nurturing sound of Kristy's voice. Her verse changes the song the most to add real hope. Simon and Garfunkel try to achieve an inviting sound in this verse by switching from a minor key to a major key harmony.
@deannaunruh61163 жыл бұрын
I agree!!! I think that PTX does a better interpretation of the intent of the song than Simon and Garfunkel even. It evokes so much emotion! It’s like the turned the song into an “art song” (where the music enhances the lyrics of the song).

When the bass (Avi or Matt) is singing, Scott (tall blond male) takes over the bass. Scott, IMHO, is one of the most talented in this group. He has a huge range and has a big hand in the arrangements. They are all obviously so talented but Scott is so well rounded. He also just seems like such a nice, creative guy when you see him in interviews or on Superfruit.

So glad you're appreaciating Scott's bass when Matt sings. Its part of his range he rarely shows but he's really good with it. He also showed it off in the Hallelujah version from a few years ago, that you reacted to, with Avi. I love how much Kirstie's voice has grown since then, too.

Scott was the lead, he usually sings close to the baritone range, he often drops down to handle the base when Avi and now Matt are singing lead...they are all very talented with incredible ranges. Even Kevin the beat boxer has a beautiful tenor voice. From your reaction I don't think you have heard the Disturbed version of this song. I have heard it put as Simon and Garfunkel sent out a letter, Disturbed sent out a call to arms, and PTX sent out a song of jubilation and triumph. Matt has an amazing voice the reminds me of deep brown molasses while Avi had a voice with the warmth of dark chocolate brownies. When Avi left the group he helped to pick Matt to take over as the bass. You ain't heard nothing yet.. Wait until you hear one of their most recent releases, a rendition of Amazing Grace...

This is probably a repeat of what other commentors have said. 1st of all thank you so very much for continuing to do Pentatonix. I adore them More than any instrumental group I've ever heard. And I value your Analysis of the video, the singers and your reaction. I'd be curious To know how many subscribers have you gotten since you 1st did hallelujah. And I am predicting that with each Pentatonix reaction you do your number of subscribers will also increase. So congratulations. The gentleman in the white jacket is matt. He replaced avi As the bass in 2017. Avi left for personal reasons but is on very good terms with PTX. Avi helped to pick matt to be his replacement. When Matt is singing, or avi, Scott does the bass. Avi is a basso profundus you would know the term, that he has blown out speakers. If you listen to there video Of aha live at Singapore the initial singing That they're doing avi blew out a speaker that night. You might want to do radioactive next because the beat boxer, Kevin also plays a cello And he beat boxes at the same time. He calls this cello boxing. If not that Then imagine which I know you will just be blown out of your shoes By the arrangement. Someone mentioned listening to disturbs version of silence. Disturbed is a heavy metal rock band but there cover of sound of silence is not heavy metal. It really comes out of left field For disturbed considering the type of music that they Are known for. And you have to watch the official video Because it is very haunting And you really get to see the rage David Draiman is getting singing with. The official video makes the lyrics take on new meaning And please make sure you start It from the very very beginning Not where you see of the piano keys. Please keep the PTX reactions coming. 1 more and I think you can officially call yourself a Penta halick. Yes there really is such a thing.
