If your expectations are realistic with them, you should be fine and I would just use them if you like the way they sound, etc. We have dozens of videos showing them being used in all kinds of applications, from small weddings to larger street dances. They have been fantastic and very versatile for us.

I’ve watched a few of your videos. I’m very impressed with the presonus subs after listening on my home system. 1000 watt boxes. 135 db max. Pretty impressive! Great videos. Love the real world approach

Thanks Mark - the subs definitely work for us. To be honest, we have seen some EV subs lately that were disturbingly loud! We don't need (or want that), but the point is to find the gear that works...and the CDL subs with their form factor, etc. are serving us well.

A suggestion to bag the sand bags. 2 or 4 of those helical dog tie out things with short ratchet straps to the top of the legs. A little longer to place, but obviously much lighter and probably more secure. Cheers.

Hey just sub'd to you guys, as I'm doing research on the cdl12p's(budget friendly). What do you think of their 18 inch subs?? I know your cell phone is probably doing some compressing, but I'm not hearing a lot of the low end. With the Four cdl12's how far will they reach? 200 feet?? Less?? What is your experience? Thanks for doing these videos, especially while you are in the middle of setup. Have a good one. Carl
@thesoundcouple3 жыл бұрын
My experience with "low end" is not only subjective (to taste and perception), it can vary drastically by location and placement of the subs (ground stacked, on the stage, speaker positioning, room acoustics/reflective surfaces) and the type of music (live vs. pre-recorded). With all of these factors into play, I find that pre-recorded music allows for more consistent results (easier to manage the environmental factors since the "mix" part is done for you), whereas with live music, it seems to vary more based on location (PA and band). Ultimately, with limited resources (we can only carry/set up so much), we can provide up to 4 CDL subs and 3 additional ai subs. In just about every scenario, I find this to be plenty, and if for some reason it's not...too bad. I just saw a video posted by the same band with a different production company that provided 12 subs (6 per side) at a comparable outdoor event...wholly crap!! Really? to me, that to me seems way overkill and unbalanced with only two top mains. That will never happen in my world as there isn't the budget and resources to support that. Interestingly enough, we were recently able to reposition the kick drum mic (he did have mounted inside the kick drum) to a stand and positioned the mic closer to the outside port and the results were very noticeable. We are using their mic packages and I am a Beta 52 guy and missed it up to this point terribly. Now I understand it was more about mic placement and not the mic and we achieved much more low end punch with less eq'ing to make it happen. I realize that this is way beyond your question, but just wanted to make it clear that there are so many more factors besides the cabinets that play a role in this. IMO, the CDL subs do a fine job in what they are designed to do, especially when you consider their footprint, which has proved to be very beneficial to our pack as they are more compact than others in their class. The only way you can guarantee you are always going to get plenty of low end is to simply add more so you can hopefully better control the environment to make it do what you want it to. In our case, we cannot supply endless subs, so we are more dependent on all of the other factors to hopefully support us and to deliver the results we are looking for. I do not regret the purchase of the CDL's to help us with that. They are quality made and pack a good punch...but remember, they are just a single 18 sub, so each one can only do so much. I wouldn't expect 4 subs from any brand to be pounding your chest at 200 ft, but you can hear them and felt them say from up to 50 feet. That to me is well within expectations. Dave Ratt has some interesting videos on sub placement, I would suggest checking them out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKiveWqwhZt_rdE

love your videos!!! im having trouble with the speakers hitting the limiter pretty quick. Have you had this issue?? any advice?
@thesoundcouple Жыл бұрын
Yes...we do find them hitting the limiter sooner than we feel they should as well. Just our opinion, but they seem to be a bit too cautious and we look at it as we are getting into yellow...not red. We have used these thoroughly over the past 3 years through some tough gigs pushing them hard and we have yet to have any problems....so we will keep doing what we do. You can check out a video here where we started our journey with them and we talked about this a bit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3yQiHtmrNqYpa8

@thesoundcouple Жыл бұрын
Always! Just kidding, but I can only recall a couple of times where I thought this was the case, but will not own that issue. During the planning stages, there are plenty of opportunities to address, but the budgets ultimately do the talking and we provide a lot for what we are getting paid. If they need more, the organizers need to step up and pay for it.

We use Ultimate trees. We only carry as many as we have lights we could potentially use. In our case 5 since that’s how many bar mounted lights we have.

What do you charge for 3-4 hours for that set up? Most of the bands in my area have their own Sound system
@thesoundcouple2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I don't really want to get into pricing here, but yes, carrying a system is a good choice for some (I did in every band I played in). Personally, I think that carrying a system can be a burden on some bands as its overhead that some groups don't want to deal with. Another factor is that at least in this area, the clubs that are left, mostly have a house systems. Back in the day, not so much. So between either house systems, or production provided events, bands that can hire us to handle the other 3rd makes good business sense. Otherwise, they may have a PA sitting for long periods of time. The band in this video carries a small system for their acoustic show.

@markprincemolina75482 жыл бұрын
For the amps gtr and bass, did you mic them or direct lineout to mixer?
@thesoundcouple2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the set-up. Typically for bass, we always go direct with a DI box (or built in DI on bass amp) and mic guitars. With this band, we do both on guitars. One player has more traditional set-up so we mic his amp. The other guitar has a Kemper profiling amp, so we go direct out.
