I am a 1970's California guitar player raised on Santana and playing his music as long as well. You did an out standing job recreating his tone and style with this rig and pedals. So much so that I am going to investigate this equipment even now 3 years later. You guys always represent the equipment and the artists in outstanding ways. I tell everyone about your demos about equipment and ability to maximize the budget.
@Jakeman902108 жыл бұрын
Considering that Carlos Santana uses a PRS with all Brazilian rosewood neck ($4200), and two Dumble overdrive reverbs ($50,000 +) and his original snakeskin boogie (priceless), I think you did a really job recreating his rig with £1500 .
@TheBigDean188 жыл бұрын

@TheBigDean188 жыл бұрын
Gherkin Flout Tubanomeister The $4200 one is probably the one they sell to the public. Santana's is most likely a one off made specifically for him with even more highly custom woods and shit haha. Idk just speculation.

@@HimTortons - Given that Santana sounds like Santana whatever gears he's using and yet no one really sounds like him, I do rather doubt that. Santana's sound is what's in his head. "Sounds like... Sounds like without breaking the bank." We've faced a wall of DSL-40s at each other. We have them set on full volume with just a little bit of gain, with nothing connected to the input jacks on either. Then we put an 400 quid epiphone with a locking tremolo (that's a steal) inbetween them. Then we left a backpack with a tube streamer, a xotic ep booster, and boss chorus in a bin a petrol station. And then we went to the pub for a pint.

I have a Les Paul and a Mark V 90W. That’s really all there is to it. That guitar straight into that amp. Instant Carlos. To fully get his sound, you do need a certain amount of volume and gain, though. There’s no getting around it. That’s where the sustain and feedback comes from. He uses the volume and tone knobs on the guitar quite a bit, and a few effects sometimes, but that’s it.

I think we could really classify Santana's sound into 3 phases of his musical career. The first could be the equipment he used during his Woodstock-Abraxas era. The second one I feel could be during his time when he released the album "amigos" since there he started using different equipment during that album and the concerts he gave for that album. And we could divide the third in 2: the concerts he gave during the 80's (we can also mention when he promoted his album blues for Salvador). and finally the supernatural guitar sound (maybe the most popular sound of his career). Actually, the sound and equipment that Santana used throughout his musical career until today is so varied that it makes him unique.

Actually, I think Santana was playing single coil P90's when he recorded Abraxas, with all the popular tunes on them (Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman). Plus, he was using a Fender Twin Reverb on the first two albums. Rabea plays perfectly and nailed the tone, but I am not sure what is essential about the tone and what is not. Seems like Rabea sounded like the guitar tone on the Abraxas album and the later albums (like Supernatural) - even though the gear was different.

This surprises me. When I was a little grub I was a bit obsessive about finding "the secrets" and while I liked Hendrix, Page and especially McLaughlin, my Tone Gods were Duane Allman and Carlos Santana. And without internet, with the only magazine of any worth being Guitar Player and there being a bit of secretiveness, it was hard to find the secrets. However, the one common factor was using very clean, high-power capacity SPEAKERS and a cranked power amp. Allman used a no-master-volume 50 watt Marshall into Altec-Lansing speakers, Santana used a silverface Twin Reverb into JBL's, sometimes Altec-Lansings. (The silverface are cleaner than blackface) He MAY have had a a Mesa-Boogie or some sort of rewired Fender by _Santana III_ or _Caravanserai_, but the "signature tone of his was set by a silverface Twin Reverb and JBL's - maybe coincidentally, his friend Jerry Garcia used the same thing. I wouldn't bother writing anything, but this guy doesn't sound much like Santana at all - it's a tone that comes from settings and components, not just from buying stuff that say "Santana" on it. If there's a "secret" it's dead-clean, high-power "PA" speakers.
