Thank you both so much for your good attempt at Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar tone is difficult to achieve, especially as he played live through a 200 amp Marshall Major on full throttle. You can't replicate that at home without losing your windows. I think your choice of guitar, amp and cab were excellent, that particular booster, I'm not 100% convinced? What I loved was the energy especially on Highway Star, the song just screams energy and I believe you captured that, I could see your excitement at attempting this special song, from what was probably the best live Rock album ever recorded. "Made in Japan" unlike other albums, I never get bored of it, mainly because of Ritchie's guitar playing.

Even on the video, the Bust the Bank version was "it" as far as the experience of Deep Purple MkII tone. Rickenbacker 4003 vs Fender P-Bass? (Discounting that this specific Fender had a high setup.) Great stuff, as usual.
@robertcarey33832 жыл бұрын
I know Dave loves the solid-state amps, but the tube Marshall takes it up a notch, because this was the "breaking the bank" version I would have loved to have seen him used a 100-watt plexi full stack. When I started playing in 1973 people typically used 1/2 stacks as a practice rig and preformed using 100-watt heads and two 4x12 cabinets.

Very educational in a sense that it demonstrates well that getting a strat, treble booster and marshall doesn't necessarily get you that close. It somewhat resembles Blackmore's sound but the tones in this video lack bottom end fattness that was Blackmore's signature. There is way too much treble. Blackmore is one of the hardest people to copy sound and playing wise and I do understand the limitations such as time and resources available to make these episodes so I didn't want to sound negative just as a hardcore Blackmore geek, I wanted to point these things out. The SV20 is actually a great choice, sounds killer with the right speakers and a hornby skewes treble booster replica.
@manuel160919692 жыл бұрын
Exact !!! This doesn't sound like blackmore at all. In a old video Dave sounds closer, still far from DogwithtwoBones, Mgalbu or Emanuele Cognigni, but better than this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZjXqYqkd6udr8U

The grateful Dead's system was 10 db louder than deep purple in 1974 . the wall of sound could be heard clear as day for a 1/4 mile.... 604 total speakers, powered by 89 300-watt solid-state and three 350-watt vacuum tube amplifiers generating a total of 26,400 watts of power. 586 JBL speakers and 54 Electro-Voice tweeters, powered by 48 600-watt McIntosh MC-2300 amplifiers generating a total of 28,800 watts of continuous (RMS) power). This system projected high-quality playback at six hundred feet (180 m) with an acceptable sound projected for one-quarter mile (400 m), at which point wind interference degraded it. im not sure what the max Db it could push. i think it was more about clarity than db. The Grateful Dead's 1974 wall of sound weighed 75 tons, produced a sound over 127 decibels and took a day to build. but apparently baseball stadiums fans are louder 140 db

@@Halliday7895 The sound system at Knebworth in 1985 was reportedly pulling 250Kw, and I can confirm that maybe 300ft from the stage, the sound was superb. It was also reported that the volume busted the permitted sound level, which I assume the promoter knew it would ahead of time, and the local council levied the maximum fine for flouting the restriction. .... £2,000.
