@@Mathcartney That's not how Clapton played his guitars though. He almost never _slightly_ rolled off the tone knob - it was either on 10 or 0, the latter of which was used for his "woman tone". And he rarely if ever set the selector to the middle position. Live it was almost always on the treble pickup with everything on 10 (unless using the woman tone which was usually on the neck pickup with the volume on 10 and tone on 0), plugged into the Normal channel on a '67 Super Lead - also with every knob on the amp on 10.

Clapton's tone had 2 major components...the Amp! and the circuits in the guitar - tbx tone control and that mid-boost. The mid-boost is useless without the TBX tone control, that makes the whole sound big and very clear. He uses no pedals what so ever, except a Wah...he goes directly into the amp, turned to max...and that's where he gets his drive. Also...neck pickup for Clapton tone...huge part...and the neck and middle together...bridge not so much...only on some songs...by the way Layla live was played on the neck pickup..look it up on clapton and friend from the 90's at Royal Albert Hall i think it was...

@mikekaylor12263 жыл бұрын
Eric's custom shop guitars haven't included the TBX control in many years, so the boost still sounds great without it.
@davidmuncy78622 жыл бұрын
Clapton didn't have a boost or tbx in original blackie.. those came in his signature Blackie model in 86, which came with LACE noiseless pickups. That switched to fender noiseless in late 2001 due to the licensing agreement running out with LACE. The first live show with his signature model, which was a concept proof, was live at Montreux in '86. The first studio album was August, released later in the year. The original blackie was last used regularly in '85, with the final ever stage performance being one song in '91 at the royal Albert hall

@maximalist50386 жыл бұрын
BlueStratDude ummm SRV is my all time favorite player but a couple things. Hendrix, EVH, and id say really nailing B.B.s tone. Srv is just a 50s pickup rosewood board strat with MASSIVE strings and ramming a fender tweed or even a twin reverb. In step Stevie is more difficult cause he used fenders, Marshall’s, dumbles, stuff like that. And a ts10. Many don’t know that he used the cheaper ts10 once it came out. He had used the 808 some and the 9 for a while but ts10 is closest. Old old crybaby, occasionally a Vox wah even. And a Univibe. He would stack 2 ts10s sometimes too. Stevie’s rig was the definition of straightforward and reliable

So i thing is that a tweed twin will be more accurate even though it was not the amp used in the studio.
@Dagger_3233 жыл бұрын
@@tendulkarification Clapton never used a Tweed Twin during Cream. Throughout his touring in both America and the UK at that time the band was using strictly Marshall 100 watt heads and dual stacks. Tweed Twins would not have given anywhere near enough volume for what Cream was doing. Besides that, I happen to know that Clapton never played anything but Marshalls throughout the entirety of Cream. I'm familiar with the interview you're referring to, but he does not mention that he began using Tweed Fender amps specifically in Cream - he did not. He used them off and on throughout live performances with the Bluesbreakers _before_ Cream formed due to them being more consistent to the "Bluesbreaker" Marshall combo he had used on the Beano record, and he continued using Twins more regularly sometime after Blind Faith. There are photographs however from nearly every live performance that Cream played across their American tours and every single one of them features Clapton and Bruce with at least one if not two full stack Marshalls each. A Tweed Twin will not give you the same sound that Clapton was getting live in Cream.

Signature equipment will always be more expensive. But what is that signature equipment based off of? Think about how much his rig cost on VH1. Guitar thrown together with scraps, going into an extremely loud amp and a script phaser. I love Anderton's, this video, the whole Anderton's gang etc. Listening to Lee Dickson, Eric's "Tech" for 30 years had some amazing stories, info and insight. What Lee D said, who works for Fender now, plus MojoTone and Bourn (hopefully spelled correctly). Lee D would just bring what he thought Eric would want/need and being great friends, jokingly said he did not listen to Eric, but just brought what he thought and Eric ended up needing it and it was available. Acoustic was an L5 and that a given, to Lee D and I was happy/surprised that Lee D would bring just enough guitars to a show, a different one for every song, but could be colour, with a common theme. Eric did not like wireless anything, hated effects, sometimes would be willing to just use a wireless, but a fun war with effects. I would have assumed Custom Shop Signature Guitar and Eric would play them, but thankfully for me, Lee D noted that Eric like the Artist Series Strats, with TBX, Boost and Noiseless pickups, straight into a Fender Twin, even though many, mostly Fender Amps were used. Lee D noted that Eric played a gig/song, whatever, with Kravitz, "All Along the Watchtower" and Lee D said that Eric had the best tone he had ever heard, in 30 years, with an Artist Strat (non-Custom Shop), with TBX, up to 25DB Boost, Vintage Noiseless Pickups (Standard Artist) straight into a Fender Twin, with a cord, no wireless (Eric apparently hates wireless and effects), Lee D made certain to say and if needed, only a Cry Baby Wah, but all the effects people thought, were in Eric's Fingers and with the boost/TBX, that was it. ** This is the common go to Eric Rig, according to Lee D, Tech for 30 years and Eric could easily do a whole set/often does, with just his hands, regular Artist Strat, Fender Twin, MIDDLE PICKUP and a Cry Baby Wah, if he chooses. He can play everything from Cream too modern, with just this and he wanted the TBX and 25DB Boost in this Artist Series, with Vintage Noiseless to do this. Lee D noted that many persons have asked him, so many times, what all the pedals are, especially for all those tones and the Hendrix tone, but there is none, but the boost, driving just the Twin, with no mods to anything. Why not love the Custom Shops More and use them? He does, loves them, they are stunning, BUT, once played, if a charity wants one to auction, a Clapton Artist Custom Shop Played, obviously brings far more cash for charities and Fender is good with it, because it is good for all, but, Eric is good with the more affordable Artist, with same features. *** I have a regular Eric Clapton Artist, as I can't afford Custom Shop, a very talented gigging friend plugged it into his twin, Cry Baby an option, he played, because I suck and that 25DB boost, will drive a Twin hard enough to get all tones needed, but yes, Eric's hands obviously do most of it. THIS VIDEO ROCKS, ANDERTON'S ROCKS AND THIS IS A COMPLIMENT TO A KILLER VIDEO, not trolling, or anything stupid, but a ton of great info like this, I found on Eric's Gig Rundown Videos, which really just are: Lee D, saying use a less expensive, modern Artist, middle pickup, Fender Twin, Crybaby, end of story. Everyone, including me, thinks there must be more to the sound, but apparently no, but this is the sound now, that can get close to the rest, with Eric's touch. Awesome video! Anderton's Rocks! Videos Rock! You all rock! All the best and be safe! Love these videos and the Anderton's "Gang"....awesome!

Also, the way the boost circuit works is as follows. The volume is normal, the first tone knob is a Tbx pot. This means from 0-5 it is a regular tone, then after the detent, it adds treble. The second tone knob is the boost circuit. It seems rabea figured that out, but Clapton tends to stay on the neck and in betweens while using the boost.

The middle tone with the notch at 5 is the TBX master tone control. It's not a boost. It is has 2 stacked audio taper pots, the bottom pot is a normal strat tone 250K pot only full travel is 0 to 5 then from 5 to 10 the signal goes to the top 1meg pot which lets way more high frequencies through, which is should help balance the boosted signals. Bottom Tone switch is 0 to 25dB mid boost from 0 to 10. It helps to know how the electronics really work. That must be why you didn't quite sound like Clapton!

I love John Fogerty. I pretty much bought a Les Paul custom with P90s from watching his rig rundown. Such a great sound!

I've got the "Crossroads" pedal and a wah and that's pretty much all you need on a small budget. Some talent too of course ;)
