That’s how cricket bats used to sound hitting the ball before what ever they’ve done with modern bats - to me it’s like they changed from the hitting area of the bat so the whole bat crushes the ball not just the sweet spot. It’s like playing cricket with a tennis ball in ur backyard but using a tennis racquet to bat with. Obviously intensive coaching has an effect but I believe from 1985 - 2005 there was a steady progression of good quality batting techniques. Since 2005 to now batting techniques are going backwards as batsmen use less footwork and more eyes, arms and hands to hit thru the ball.

Can you forget World Series cricket? I think not. And Bill Lawry. I just lose my senses when he is in full flow. Thank you Channel Nine and now Tri Sports Cricket. I can never have enough of it. It is because of these lovely sights we have on Earth that the other planets are mere spectators!

I wonder why this kind of noices are not coming these days when ball make contact with the bat. Particular in Australia, eversince fox took over the broadcasting rights, it feels like tennis ball making contact not cricket ball, particularly in test matches. I know not much of people care about these things but I do an always things why this lovely sound from the 80s and 90s gets lost over the last few years.
