Anyone know was there any serious head issues back then with ball hitting batsman in the head? I swear there was helmets around back then but Richards never wore one right? Anyone know the reason why he didn't?

40years later, and it's interesting to look back on those days. The Windies were virtually unbeatable, and the Australians really had their hands full just trying to make a game of it. Of course, the wheels finally turned, tho it truly is sad that the Windies have declined so markedly, particularly in red ball cricket. Thanks for the upload 😁👍

Watching these matches of WI in the 80s I am convinced that Australia during 1999 - 2009 was a superior side than them. They would beat them regardless of which era the matches were played in.

“The great Viv Richards” - I can never get tired of saying this. What a batsman. What a fielder. What throws from the boundary line. As a batsman, he was very special, easily defining what a world’s best batsman is. What a swagger and what a class! My late uncle saw him live tearing the English fast bowling apart at Lords in 1975, scoring a double century. A great Sachin Tendulkar fan, he was talking about it 30 years later with admiration.

Well, you should ask Jeff Thomson what Donald bradman did to him (yes, a Bradman in his late sixties)

Viv Richards was great but Bradman was the best.

One must not forget Loyd , if a bowler beats him one ball , the next ball has to be brought back from the boundary.

Watching this after 2024 T20 world cup. From Legendary pakistani team to this pathetic individuals. The worst players then would be better players today because they would play fir the country and take pride in being part of the team.

This clip is TV cricket gold. Tavare never managed to hit a six in his test match career and this clip provides evidence of one of only two he hit during his ODI career for England.

What a shot. He dismissed Jeff. It was a good length delivery at an angle and Viv just picked the ball up, with full bat swing and body strength behind the ball. This is one of the best shots I have seen in my 30 years of watching cricket..

If Richards born in this era and was playing in IPL matches, with the modern bats and small 60 meters boundaries in IPL grounds, Vivian Richards would have smashed sixes to the nearest town.
