I love the USB return. Signal leaves the mixer at the top of the channel strip (gain only). It goes to my software where I can do anything to that signal, via my computer, and RETURN that "adjusted signal" back to the top of the channel strip, where its flows down that strip, until it gets to the VU slider. This USB loop is the best invention I have ever seen.

A quick tip. If you really want to hear only the wet signal coming back in from your Kaoss pad you need to change the switch on the back of the Kaoss Pad from “direct” to “send”. In your video you were still hearing the dry signal mixed with the fx.

Nothing like a good “mixerface”. Many people want a mixer or an interface or both. But with this, or my Allen + Heath Qu32 or the Behringer x32, you get to go into computer and out from computer to all inputs not just mains. This is future tech!!

yeah, I just bought the 12 track model today. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was shopping for a mixer/interface combo unit and they all seemed to only output to one channel in USB regardless of haw many inputs. This mixer is simply what they should all be. The main reason I bought this is to plug in my drumbrute drum machine and record seperate drums into individual tracks in ableton. My previous method was simply recording the same track like 5 times with different drums in solo each time lol.

Only thing I would caution on (for those who may care) is the A/D + D/A conversion quality. I have spoken with many people about if this is the Cream-Of-The-Crop Conversion (in purchase consideration) and I have been told that you will get a better print by Capturing with something like an Apogee, Antelope or UA ... Aside from that, I am told this is a beautiful Analog mixer! At that, I am compelled to look at the Signature version or just be happy with the ability to throw down parts for sketching up later... If only there were Direct Outs! At that I strongly consider the Ghost and take a Harder Look at Toft Desks! At that point, we are on our way to the Big Dogs!!! :P Only thing I ask myself before committing to this world is... How will a Neve, Avalon, API, SSL, Crane Song, etc... Channel sound going Thru this mixer? 🤔🧐🤔

Yikes. It really depends on what you want to do. You could always get an inexpensive behringer for less than $100 and have a bunch of inputs for all your synths and you could plug your pioneer into it too. been planning to get this mixer/interface to provide more input capacity for my growing synth collection and for hands on mixing; Just not sure if it’ll be worth keeping my Motu Ultralite Mk4 around afterwards though. Perhaps I’ll use it in standalone mixer mode just for my drum machine sub group, processing individual 808 channels through the Motu before sending mix to MTK 22 ... Awfully expensive interface just to use for a $300 Behringer drum machine though ;) Hope to find other ways to get more mileage out of the ultralite in conjunction with the Soundcraft. Seems like MTK has a lot of options for experimenting with different workflow styles though, and seems great for those of us dipping our feet into rack outboard processing for the first time.

Thank you for this video its opening up new possibilities for my Hybrid setup. Was hoping to ask a question about a possible mixer/midi/audio interface combo. My current setup is a MPC2500 as my main sequencer, SP1200, launchpad Mk37, Model 12 all running into Ableton Lite. I want to keep my MPC as a main controller sequencer with master midi into Ableton for tracking, (stems, mastering) purposes. Alot of my tracks have more than one sequence (some at different tempos) that's why I have the MPC 2500 as the Master sync. I bought the Model 12 thinking I would be able to solve all of this, but just learned the Model 12 only sends MIDI out (and has a MIDI in port unused? unfortunately smh). My ideal workflow is to be able sample, make beats on MPC and SP, Use the Launchkey as a MIDI keyboard for Ableton and a Proteous 2000 and being able to seamlessly track everything into Ableton with MPC as the sequencer. Huge Bonus if I can resample from the PC back into MPC (online samples). Unfortunately the Model 12 is not cutting it as an audio interface and the DAW control is very lacking. I might have to re-sell this unless I am doing something wrong.. What would be the setup / gear you recommend for this? Should I just purchase a Focusrite into a regular USb mixer (Yamaha mgu12 for example) or is there a hybrid Mixer with Audio and especially midi inputs/outputs just like the Focurite that can solve this entire workflow? I really appreciate the videos and any tips advice is greatly appreciated!

But my question is can I get a 4ch small mixer and get similar results just running threw the circuitry. I have a pair of klark eq’s and a warm audio bus compressor that I’m currently summing out to. That’s why I was wondering if I put a small mixer in between I can gain sum analog saturation.
@wyreduprecordingstudio47014 жыл бұрын
Sure.. you could do that. You could sum your mix through the twin, out into the MTK, aux out to your chain, bring it back in again, use the groups for infinite parallel processing or gain staging, and send that back into the twin off the main outs of the board. It would certainly have a Soundcraft sound on it by that stage.

Got a Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK as my first mixer and the volume is VERY quiet when playing guitars through it (either mic or DI) and going out to my KRK speakers or Headphones. The Gain, Channel Fader (routed to master and group 1-2) and Master are all cranked to the max. Sometimes it reaches -3 max volume on the Master Meter, but that's it. If you want to print the audio from the master bus you can create an audio track and have the inputs be 23/24. Make sure the outputs of the track are not routed back into to mixer when recording the take. When you are the audio track to record and play/record the track it will record all the changes and eqs and everything you do an send to the Master bus onto the audio track.

It seems like it has to be one or the other... not both at the same time. For example: I have to close Cakewalk to be able to listen to a song on KZbin. What am I missing?
@PascaleLeBlanc4 жыл бұрын
@Max Husky Nope! I finally found the way to do it ... It was because of the sampling rate which was different in the computer and in Cakewalk (or any other DAW). Both have to be on the SAME sampling rate. My DAW was on 48000 and my computer on 44100. I changed the sampling rate in Cakewalk's audio preferences to 44100 and now everything works perfectly well! One important thing to know is that by default, Soundcraft Signature MTK mixers (12MTK or 22MTK) take chanels 1-2 to play back the computer sound. You just have to enable USB RTN on chanel 1 &2 to hear the system sound. Now I can even listen to both KZbin and the sound coming from my DAW at the same time! :)

All the individual inputs can be inputted into the MPC software. For example, if you have a mic on input 3 and want to record it, you just set up and audio track in the software with input 3 and record directly into the MPC software. If you want to record the Master channel from the soundcraft select input 23/24 as inputs to an audio track in the software.

So, I'm assuming that you are recording your tracks into your DAW via the 22 and then playing them back thru the 22 to mix down and record your final mix to another unit?
@jonathananderson323 жыл бұрын
The desk will output that final mix out on special channels 23/24 so you can record everything back into a new stereo track in a DAW and simply call that the end result.

Hey Matthew, I have a couple of questions. Is the Audio Interface pre or post faders? And does the USB power work for charging a phone? Thanks!
@MatthewStratton4 жыл бұрын
The audio interface is pre-faders for all the channels (1-22). On the Master bus (23-24 in the software) it is post fader with effects. I don't know if the usb power will work on the phone.

Why did you switch to a different mixer nowadays, was it not good? Thanks for your info in advance, wait for your answer to buy one
@MatthewStratton4 жыл бұрын
The mixer just took up too much space on my desk. It is rather large to put on a computer desk. I bought a smaller 12 track mixer.

Great in depth hands on review, nice one! I love this mixer, it does present a lot of advantages... but i'm kind of put off by the fact that it doesn't have onboard compression per channel nor even inserts per channel to be able to use an external compressor... i'm on the fence between this mixer and the Tascam Model 24... Many thanks
@wyreduprecordingstudio47014 жыл бұрын
The Tascam compressor is a fixed, one button compressor. Not exactly 'customizable'. Soundcraft didn't bother adding a hardware compressor when there are a thousand plugin compressors and then some.. and with USB return, it's a virtual insert point, so you can run any compressor plugin you want, and return it to the same channel. With any settings you want on said compressor.

How many aux this mixer has?
@colinwatson12826 жыл бұрын
Well done man . I have just bought this desk. Such a great help. The group sends to effects is a biggy. I Want to use the 5 aux outs as monitor mixes ( there are 5 band members) grouping vocals to my alesis effects unit seems like the answer to adding effects back in to the mix (vocals). I am not up to speed yet - so maybe using All 5 aux out isn't possible? - but right now I'm excited . Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Great track by the way !
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
Hello. You can use all 5 aux outputs with separate mixes for each. Just keep in mind if you use aux 4 and 5 you cannot use the internal effects.

Hi, in which way have you solve the 'TOO LOW' gain problem? If you record a mic (e.g. for a podcast) it's recorded too low, in practice you can't hear it. thanks!!!
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
Which mic are you using? I think it depends on the mic you are using. My condenser microphones have plenty of gain. Are you using a dynamic mic? You may need to find a way to externally boost the signal. For example, your will often see a Cloudlifter CL-1 sold with a Shure SM7B because the signal of that microphone is so low.

Hey dude, great video! Im currently trying to make up my mind whether to go for this mixer, or the Tascam Model 24. Do you have any opinions on that one?
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
The Model 24 has the built in SD card. So you can record your project right onto the SD card and import it later into a DAW if you want. Looks like that is the main advantage to the Model 24. It also has a graphic eq. Both are multitrack into your computer. The Soundcraft 22MTK has 4 bands of eq per track, so there is more flexibility on the eq per track. You can also have 2 Lexicon effect channels on the soundcraft 22MTK, so it is a bit more flexible in that regard. If you don't need the SD card recorder, I think the MTK is more flexible, those are my two cents. Keep in mind I haven't used the Model 24.

Matthew Stratton Model 24 is pretty amazing... my buddy has it. This desk has higher Sample Rate, altho I do not know how the A/D + D/A compares between the two... Tascam are well-known for their recording sound...
@bisibela4 жыл бұрын
Rodenbush Ridesharing tascam does not have efx send and return like the mtk 22. It will use an additional input. but still a solid choice , even though slightly more expensive

Hello, this is Stephen from India.. I recently bought a Soundcraft mkt 22 channel mixer and it is Good, but when I am trying to record via USB it's not working. For example, when I am pressing the recording button on the mixer for the individual mic the sound output is not coming out through speakers or in laptop. Can u help me out to resolve this problem.

2 questions: A) how do you get a stereo audio file into 2 channels (one panned left, other right)? B) when question A is done, how do I manage to have an fx (built in or AUX) on both channels but only have to twist one knob (of fx) on 1 of the 2 channels? possible? I use Cubase fyi
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about cubase but I'd imagine the routing will be similar to ableton. You need to select external output on your channel strip in the DAW. 1)Select external output on your channel in your DAW and then you can select a stereo pair (example output 1/2). Then you press the USB return on your mixer on those channels and pan 1 to left and 2 to the right. Or, you can select one of the stereo channels (example channel 15/16) and don't worry about panning. 2) you have to turn two knobs to get the effect over if you use 2 mono channels. If you use a stereo channel you only need to turn one FX knob.

can you explain what the difference is between the multitrack or without (normal signature 22)? I'm about to mix Dub (sub genre of Reggae), and I'm not sure whether I should buy the MTK version or not.

The MTK version can send ALL 22 tracks individually plus your Master channel to your DAW in your computer through USB. The normal version only sends the Master channel to your DAW through USB.

Hey man. When you are recording, which knob will control the signal being sent via the usb to the daw? Does the gain control the signal?
@MatthewStratton6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The gain knob controls the input signal to DAW per channel 1-22. The channel fader does nothing to the individual inputs to the DAW.

I thought so. Just wanted to check. Still happy with this product? I plan on using to record drums, guitars, etc into my DAW. Are the tracks pulled in through this pretty clean?

hey mate so i have just got an erm multiclock and in order to use it via audio i need to send an audio signal from ableton to the desk and the desk to the erm is there any line outs or direct outs on the soundcraft? let me know thanks
@MatthewStratton5 жыл бұрын
Hello. There are no midi outs or anything like that. There are 5 Aux outputs and two subgroup outputs that you can choose what channel of audio you want to send through those outputs.
