Soundcraft Ui Series Tutorial: Wifi and Ethernet Setup

Mine disables my hotspot as soon as I enable the wifi. It does not allow bot to be enabled at the same time. What gives?

I don't understand how you are using all three connections enabled/up simultaneously. Every time I sign into the mixer's network configuration section initially via the Hotspot to make network changes to the Wi Fi and LAN, when I switch to the Wi Fi configuration tab in order to enable it and enter details, the hotspot then disables. (and visa versa if I try to turn it back on, the Wi Fi disables). In fact, it even says that in the manual: "IMPORTANT: You cannot have both Hotspot and Client WIFI enabled at the same time." So how are you doing it??? If I engage the Wi Fi (and it automatically turns the Hotspot off) and I'm using DHCP to set the IP address, saving, and then power cycling the mixer, I no longer have Hotspot access and haven't a clue what IP address was assigned to the Wi Fi since I can't get in to see it! What am I doing wrong?

Use your own personal router and connect thru the LAN settings. It's the most stable connection short of directly connecting your computer to the ethernet/lan port directly.

You CANNOT use all 3 networks simultaneously, this video is beyond inaccurate and misleading. Activating Hotspot deactivates WiFi and vice versa.

@@toneranger this is a very helpful tip! I will try it. The issue is though- if I disable the HOTSPOT and this DOESNT work, I'll have to reset the mixer. You would think if this is true, the interface would allow enabling ONE or the other? WHy would the interface allow the ambiguious state of both being ACTIVE ?

Hope you made the right choice. I've used the Mackie DL wireless. Forced updates can drive you nuts and and seem to want to happen at the worst times.

I have a Ui16 so far no issues have loved it and it works great. I have used it for large Jazz shows and small presentation. I have not had any issues. The one exception is i did have a wireless Mic that conflicted with the wireless as they were very close in the frequency range. The wireless mic literally picked up the digital signal being sent and you could hear it and even cause a weird feedback effect. it would also disconnect the keep my iPad from connecting. However this was quickly identified the Mic was pulled out of use and things went back to normal. I am however trying to figure out the LAN connection for a more stable connection to my laptop.

Here's my review of both Soundcraft UI12 and 16. First of all both machines work for maybe an hour or 2 just fine and then the connection problems start eventually locking you out completely thus leaving you in a blind panic in front of your audience and the only way to get the connection back is to reset it by firstly finding a pin! Then prodding it into a tiny little pinhole on the side but not before you've switched the power off and on!!! Try explaining that to an angry crowd of people, and this happened sometimes twice a night! Secondly 2 or 3 months down the line both power supplies died during performances!!! I opened one of the supplies up out of curiosity, it looked like a child had cobbled it together for an art project! My advice is stay well clear of these, not worth the loss of hair! Their products cost me work and got me some bad reviews online so this is a little payback!

my experience is very similar but luckily only in the studio. I can only imagine the chagrin and angst this would cause in a live show!

Update. Maybe pilot error on my part. I was trying to connect to the U12 when the LED's were blinking (Bluetooth mentality) That is exactly wrong. I needed to wait for the Ui12 to establish its Wifi. So I should be connecting when the leds are not blinking. I am taking it home to try again. Stay tuned. If my frustration was my fault and just a process error, I apologize. I'll give it one more evening of home demo to see how it goes.

One thing that I have found is that many routers use their IP Address so that you can access and edit router settings via a web browser. My router, an Amped Wireless router is no exception, so even after setting up the Ui12 mixer with the proper router information, when I type the router IP address into a web browser I cannot access the Ui Mixer, as I am directed to the router settings page. Is there a work around for this?

So does the hotspot disappear if I try to connect it to an existing wifi network? I tried that, and ui.io does not work anymore, and my hotspot wifi disappeared. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I bought Soundcraft Ui12 for our archery group (for shows - mixing music and speech)... at first sets of testing I experienced problems with WiFi: after few hours of working all connected devices lost signal and there was no connection to mixer - not just one time, but each time... when I tried to gain control over the mixer, I tested connection through LAN (after I switch ON the mixer I connected through WiFi and LAN) and after this test (connection through LAN was succesfull) is mixer working properly, no more signal drop or lost, even if mixer is on-line for few days. Power off have no affecting WiFi and now I´m fully happy with this machine.

I had a gig Saturday night where I was using a Ui24r. I couldn't get more than 10' away without losing connection. I am not sure why such great mixers seem to always be lacking in the wifi dept. Maybe next time save money and leave the wifi option out or actually put one in that won't require me to end up buying an external router. Really disappointed in the wifi option.

I'm having issues connecting the ui16 to my home wifi network so I can access the internet and still edit my sound. I used dhcp on the wifi settings and I took the ip it listed and typed it in my browser on my home wifi network but it says access denied or timed out. Of course soundcraft support hours are only monday through friday, yet most use of their products probably occurs on the weekend..unimpressive. I've even tried editing the manual wifi IP and typed in the ip/netmask/gateway I get from the windows command prompt "ipconfig" and nothing is working. What am I missing or doing wrong??? Do I need to physically connect an ethernet cord from my router to the ui16 first? Any help is appreciated.

8 years later and this is still an issue! No matter what I do, I cannot use my home wifi network to access and control the UI16 via the browser.!!! Absolutely zero response from Soundcraft in EVERY forum, and they have no contact method. This will be the last Soundcraft product I buy; They haven't even updated the firmware in 6+ years!!

hdmi was never added as a feature, unfortunately. They apparently stopped giving firmware updates also... I Still haven't been able to get my UI16 to be controlled through my home wifi network instead of the hotspot. Frustrating..

I just bought a Ui12 at my local Guitar Center. Got it home and would not reliably connect. Android connected Ok. Ipad would not. Password I am using is correct butiPad keeps saying password was wrong. The ipad connected the next day. After it disconnected, the password failed again. I could not get into the GUI. When a device goes to sleep, the mixer disconnected Only way to reconnected requires Ui12 reboot/ Wifi reconnect. Firmware was updated! I rebooted and still could not connect reliably. This a FAIL of enormous proportions.

Usually Router config pages are on IP 192.168.1.1 (or -.1.0 ). The address the external router issues to the mixer is the one you should type in. In the above video that was 192.168.1.78 . Typing another IP should not redirect you to the router's config.

I went back GC and was shown that my personal iPad Air 2 connected reliably (at GC). Weird. So I took it home one more time. My iPad Air 2 can NOT establish a connection at home (same close proximity with no obstructions). I tried countless times, rebooted. etc. This was enough to convince me the Ui12 WiFi connectivity is NOT reliable and I cannot count on it for a gig. Unreliable! Buyer beware. My android device however seems to connect OK (at home) but I don't want to run on a small cell phone. Why the issue with the iPad? Cannot trust this for a gig. It might leave your stranded. I never even HEARD it since I could not connect, I figured why even plug in a speaker.

I have had the Ui16 since march, it was really the only choice because behringer and presonus had sold out of all their digital mixers in that price range. I was a little disappointed for a few reasons. Number one no usb interface which is what I mainly desired, Number two I cannot figure out this wifi and ethernet business. It is meant to simply to control the Ui 16? or can you actually search the internet and connect other devices to it? It would really be great if I could use it as well for the internet connection as I would like to have a ethernet connection to stream

I stopped using my Ui12 because of the connection issues. It would only stay connected if it was hard wired. It would not stay connected with either the hotspot or an external router. Also, using a browser to run the device is a bad idea. On a small screen, the icons are to small to be operated properly.

So far my UI16 is a train wreck. I can't connect to it through my LAN after following instructions. It reports it has a FIXED IP when I connect to the HOTSPOT , but that IP isn't a page server , when I try to reach it from my LAN browser. Other even bigger problem-connected to HOTSPOT, moving ANY control (SLIDER, EQ, etc) causes the screen to lock and go to the startup page and the LOADING graph comes up. It only allows moving a slider like 1% of range, and this happens, less than ten feet away. AND even though there is a forum page to ask about problems, there are few and more typically no responses. I see near-zero activity there, so I think the community is tiny. I'm working on the RMA now, hate to pay the extra for the DL16S but a true mixer-company probably has problems like these solved. Very disappointing, I was really looking forward to IPAD controlled mixing and all the great stuff that offers.

UPDATE: I've solved a lot of the issues and can connect to the MIXER from a laptop with much fewer dropped connections/page reloads. It's at least usable now, but I hate having to use the hotspot and not the LAN. I tried to use the LAN and it didn't respond from the fixed IP. I had to use the RESET button to get to it - thank goodness that was there or I'd have a BRICK!

We just got the unit hooked up. During our church service we too lost connection with the unit. It said not in range while the device was inches from the unit. Help, there is no real tutorial on connecting the Ethernet which defeats the purpose of being wireless

No matter what I do (DHCP or Static), after I reboot and select my home wifi network and then go to the browser page and refresh, it no longer loads and connects!!! This is the last product I buy from Soundcraft. I cannot believe there hasn't even been a firmware update in 6+ years, yet you are still able to buy this new like I did. I just got me this Ui12 and I started configuring it today. I found out that if I use my own laptop to use the mixer interface I can't use my internet. Now, I need my internet to download music that is requested and I don't have at the time of request. Is there maybe a way that I can do both things and I just don't know how to do it? Please help!! I want to do LAN connection to use it because I think is more reliable, but how can I do this and still be able to use the internet to download stuff via wifi?

I will say something good, but I’m also going to say something horrible about this product and hope it helps whoever is using it currently. When you have it working, the UI24 beats any other product on the market. UNFORTUNATELY, the way they set this thing up made it to where it’s not very user friendly to actually set up and just use. As musicians, that’s what we want. On the back, there are minimal directions to setting up your UI via Ethernet. You do have to do some set up manually through your computer, the back of the UI has the IP and subnet mask that you need to change on your Mac or PC. Once you set it up YOU THEN can go to your browser and type in the IP address to get to the mixer. Hope that helps. YOU GUYS NEED TO FIX THIS GARBAGE. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS BS, THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE PLUG AND PLAY!!!!!!!!

A completely useless tutorial. Like reading off a powerpoint just restating things we can see in front of us, without attempting to think about the onvious questions. Like in Wired Ethernet, he says press "manual' when there is a choice of "DHCP" or "Manual", So why press manual. Then there is an IP address, but nothing is explained, why make certain choices where to find the info, what if you need something different. You would be far better of just trying to work it out yourself than wasting time time with someone explaining the obvious to people he assumes that they know exactly what he knows and they can already do everything he is talking about. The chances of a first time user getting this to work using this tutorial is about zero, and the level of frustration, especially given that the WiFi is totally useless and you may not realise how useless till you are at a gig, (it worked OK at home but now the stupid thing is says "No Connection") and you have to try and figure out how to workaround under great stress.
