I was in a back-back room 20 years ago with the likes Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Gruntruck, and a bunch of the epic rockers at an Alice in Chains/ Screaming Trees show in Seattle. I didn't get star struck until Kim walked into the room. He was so nice to everyone and nearly everyone star dropped what they were doing to say hi to him. He is worthy rock/ guitar god. Naturally, I didn't have the nerve to talk to him.

Not as familiar. But have heard a couple of tracks I liked. Where are all the good bands these days? I never realized what I great era the early 90's were until looking back recently & realizing the good that has resulted from the influence of this era is few & far between.
@entertain7us148
@entertain7us148 10 жыл бұрын
Carl Puglisi there are NO good bands these days! well OK, there are a few. Queens of the Stone Age are pretty good, and the Black Keys are awesome, but nothing has the youthful fire of 90s alt rock. grunge was the last breath of life in rock n roll, and an amazing breath at that. every time I discover another grunge band from the 90s, I get so angry that I wasn't growing up in that era! music today is so crap..
@Lulustucru2393
@Lulustucru2393 9 жыл бұрын
+entertain7us14 I agree with you... The whole Grunge/Alternative scene was the last trace of pure Rock... After that, almost everything was pure garbage... The music scene in 2000 was catastophic... In my opinion the 90's was the best decade for music !

What Kim says about fans and influences is one of the most righteous things I've ever heard. I don't know if I've heard any musician put it that way and it's a really pure philosophy

@semperfi818

Remember, Kim Thayil has a degree in philosophy, so his erudition and articulate wit go with the territory; also, consider the lyrics he writes ("Ferrivorous direction and drive," say)...but even given the raw, visceral power of his playing, the beast is still under exquisitely calibrated control:. consider his deceptively quiet, even serene playing posture, which reminds me of nothing so much as John Entwistle's unshakeable steady-as-she-goes stance at the eye of the Who's storm. Kim wastes no energy on cheap theatrics, instead pouring passion, soul and intelligence into the controlled fury of his playing; he is one of very few guitarists whose playing can meet the power and truth of Chris Cornell's voice and not seem flat by comparison. (IMNSHO, Tom Morello is another such rare bird among guitarists, which is the only reason by these lights that Audioslave worked at all, let alone as well as it did.)

In other interviews, Chris Cornell, who made no secret of his introversion or of his chronic depression, had stated that part of what he looked for in a bandmate is someone with whom he could hang comfortably as well as create worthwhile music; perhaps Soundgarden worked as well as it did for as long as it had, then was able to reunite fairly gracefully after the hiatus, because the band had become a relatively functional chosen family along the way and never really dissolved the social bonds among them during the layoff. During this interview, Chris and Kim did appear like brothers from different mothers, which was delightful to see; I only wish his band-family could have intervened for Chris on that fateful day in Detroit in May 2017.

I was hours away from death Jan 5th 2012. 4 months in hospital, wished I could die later after. 6 bypass heart surgery, a unrepairable Aeorta and a 10% chance of survival and 3 stomach surgery's. damn! I swear these guys did this for me! Life really is worth living! By the way, there is a medical write up by Mayo clinic as being a complete anomaly to survive the damage to my aeorta by it scanning over on its own and for have that FRICKING tube shoved down my throat for 15 days.

Soundgarden has always been known for adding well-chosen albeit offbeat, unexpected covers to their live shows -- but, yes, the Stone Roses would have been too unlikely a choice for them, even for a goof. On the other hand, covering the Stooges is a righteous move; I wish I could have heard that show live...

No because Chris Cornell wanted more money like a capitalist and not split equally like "a commie" because as a songwriter he thought he deserved more bucks than the rest of the band. His new found superficial Jet Setter lifestyle was pretty taxing then.
