My dad was a musician, but not a huge fan of "noisy" heavy metal back when I was in high school... But he got behind SG because of the "jazz" time signatures. (I was listening to Outshined on headphones and tapping my fingers, he made me play it for him.) Bringing the generations together! And thanks, Dad, for making me appreciate what I was listening to a little more.

Interesting Tidbit: I was at the show in Calgary, Alberta where they recorded half of the live footage, (the other half being in Edmonton), and that's ME at the 3:55 mark, sitting on the hands of the crowd and throwing up the horns!! I wanted to do something different than just crowd surf, so I asked some folks to hold me up in front of the camera so I could flash my hands, and, voila, the rest is history! I remember the first time I saw this video play on MuchMusic, I almost threw up in my mouth, I was so excited. It was my 15 minutes of fame in high school as a kid who was definitely NOT one of the "cool" crowd...pretty damn cool to me, though, almost 20 years later!

As a drummer, this is one of the songs that is in my "canon of greatness." This is one of the rare cases when something is both balls-out drumming AND supermusical AND technical. I can tell you that there is some really bizarre, very tricky stuff in there. And it all rocks. Camerson does these very subtle things that show a different sense of time.

As a bass player, I've always regarded Matt Cameron as a top ten drummer. Here's why.... Chris says I'm doing a psychedelic vocal & Floyd rhythm guitar, Kim says I'm doing a Zep tinged Punk thing, Ben says I'm doing a 70's Prog thing & Matt says, "I got this. No fucking problem."
@IAmNotFamousAnymore Жыл бұрын
He was a good studio drummer, but that's about as far as it goes. He's not that great live, especially because he has a major tendency to really, REALLY crank the tempo all the way up and he never really can temper his playing and find that sweet spot. He's all over the map.
@drumtravelfun Жыл бұрын
@@IAmNotFamousAnymore Completely disagree. I'm also a drummer, playing professionally for about 35 years (it's paid for my homes, cars, food, vacations, investments, on and on), and I've seen Matt live many times over the years. Always on point. RE: "crank the tempo". So what? Lots of bands do different tempos for their songs live, this is not uncommon. It keeps it fresh for the band and the crowd, adds a different flavour, etc - it's R&R. Want the song exactly the same as the album? Stay home and put it on. Maybe you should stick with Steely Dan.

Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3vUnqaOmZ2EfpY&t

In the Summer of 1992 a friend "dragged" me to a Heavy Metal concert front lining two comparatively new bands: Skid Row and another band. This other band was the opening act. We were in a pretty modest venue in Nashville, Tennessee, something like a small auditorium. When the rock show began I noticed some greasy, grungy types hitting the stage. Instruments flared up and we were blown away by what, for any other words just won't do, were homeless young men on the stage. It was Soundgarten. They played like men ready for battle: complete focus, concentration and the harnessing of a wild energy that impelled them until they were relieved by Sebastian Bach and his reinforcements known as Skid Row. Needless to say, I never had to be "dragged away" to a Heavy Metal concert again. Edit: Still listening to and loving Heavy Metal AND alternative rock.

One of the best albums ever. Soundgarden was a masterful band. They are under appreciated by most of the music world, only the hardcore Soundgarden fans understand how much more musically sophisticated they were than most other rock bands. Their songs were so well written and arranged that sometimes you don't even notice that it's in some weird time signature or alternate tuning because it flows as smoothly as a pop song, but still has edge and grit and passion and chops. Soundgarden is easily one of the best rock bands of all time, people need to RECOGNIZE BIATCH!

As a Brit living in Florida in the 90s it was great to see a British band do so well in the States despite being virtually unheard of back home,Saw them in a small venue in Fort Lauderdale alongside No Doubt with about 150 people then 10 months later they filled the Miami arena.What a band.
