@jacobbyerson5075 Жыл бұрын
The Spinners is my third favorite group of all time. It's like people don't want to give Bobby Smith his proper flowers. He was always the lead singer before Philippe Wynne. Bobby sand lead on That's what girls were made for, Truly Yours and I will always love you, Motown hits before Atlantic Records. He sung the entire lead on I'll be Around the first hit on Atlantic. Give him his props a great singer and the best dancer in the group!!!

Talent and class that's the Spinners!

Philippe Wynne and Bobby Smith deserve all the props they get, but I’ve always felt that Henry Fambrough was their secret and unheralded weapon. He was the change-of-pace guy. He could be the smooth balladeer like on “Ghetto Child”; he had a powerful falsetto; he was the consummate team player. If the Spinners were a football team, Phillippe Wynne would be the big powerful fullback; Bobby Smith would be the smooth running back with all the moves; but Henry Fambrough would be the guy you’d bring in when you desperately needed a first down. He could run the ball, catch the ball, or throw it if he had to. Not intending to talk about him in the past tense because he’s the last surviving member of the Spinners.
@jimmiesmith5811 Жыл бұрын
Henry could hold his own on lead he did the b sides and album tracks sadly he's the only original left G C Cameron and john edwards are the other lead singers left henry was their secret weapon just like lenny mayes of the Dramatics was

Philippe Wynne faked his death in 84. Living his life out as ordained minister in Detroit until his passing in 2022. He told me why he just said Philippe Wynne died but I'm looking right at him. He sang to us daily. A unmistakable voice. We had 3 mutual friends ZACH Frazier Belita Woods AND Billy Henderson so I new it was really him. We called him Rev. ROY Abram.

AMAZING - I was so lucky to have seen them live over a dozen times from 1974 to 1979 - I was also a young kid and back stage in the dressing room with all of them - Pervis & Bobby where just so much fun and cool -Henry was just cool - Phillipe was amazing - If Thom Bell did not pick the Spinners from the very bottom of a long list of acts, a list proposed to him by Atlantic Records so he could have a group to work with... None of this would have happened. Only "ITS A SHAME", nothing else - Thom Bell, created and made the Spinners - The guys could dance and sing and where great entertainers. LOVE YOU THOM!

@@jacobbyerson5075 yes of course, but Motown let them go - they where all but done with barley two hits…and with one hit being from Stevie and not the regular Motown hit makers Motown saw no future in them…several months later Atlantic Ertagon gave Thom a list of many many groups that he could select to produce and the Spinner where the last name on the long list. When Thom selected them, as Thom knew that the group had untapped talent that was overlooked at Motown. Without Thom the Spinner would have been a one hit wonder group….Thom Bell made the Stylistics and Spinners… Period and of story.

@@jeffreysteinberg9797 of course I agree with you but don't say he made them. Motown had too many of the same type groups. Mr Jerry I know who you are a great music man at Atlantic. I feel they needed each other. Much Respect Mr Jerry. It's a matter of opinion

Thom Bell didn't create the Spinners. They were a former Motown act ("It's A Shame", "Sweet Thing", etc). That's when GC Cameron was their front man. Thom Bell along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (The Mighty Three), gave them more respect than they received at Motown. Ironically Phillipe Wynne was a relative of GC Cameron Thom Bell's arranging & composing with Joseph Jefferson, Bruce Hawes and Charles Simmons writing changed their whole game along with Mr Wynne's dynamics

he Spinners rank among the top five groups of all time. Despite his brief tenure of around six years, Henry Fambrough often downplays his role as the lead singer, attributing it to Bobbie instead. However, it's undeniable that Phillipe Wynn played a crucial part in their induction into the Hall of Fame. His vocal talent and, more significantly, his exceptional stage presence set him apart in the group. Heartfelt condolences to the Spinners who are no longer with us, and God bless Henry.

@@janiej1966 Soundstage was a weekly show on PBS, that would showcase live performances on various acts and performers from various genres of music. There's some additional performances available on KZbin, if interested.
