Another cool, fun fact: The Theme for Shaft written by Isaac Hayes won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Original Song in a Movie in 1971. It was the first time in Academy history a Black artist won this prestigious award ❤

A lot of people don't realize Shaft and Chef sound the same. This is where the character Chef comes from on South Park. Now children that is Issac Hayes doing the voice in the cartoons. That Chef is a bad mutha..... shut your mouth... I'm talking about Chef. We can dig it.

Unbelievable. I've been listening to this music for over 40 years and it never ceases to amaze me. Every time I listen I discover more things, maybe I needed to be born with black skin to fully understand it. The world wouldn't be so wonderful without black music

When I was a kid I had this on a 45 record. I listened to it many times.

I used to be the head bartender at BB King's nightclub on Beale St in Memphis. Isaac had a club upstairs, across the street. They made numerous attempts to steal me away from BB's. All the clubs on Beale poach constantly

Isaac was way ahead of his time. He has been extensively sampled by Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, and Hooverphonic among others.

This is super cool. Brings me back to the 70's I grew up in Brooklyn New York and Shaft was a very big deal back then. Love this music. Great review mugs so cool you're getting into 70's music. You should watch Shaft if you haven't great stuff! 👍

Genius! The polyrhythmic composition shows Mr Hayes close connection to his African roots. Tbis type of music has layers that are seemingly autonomous, yet a part of the whole.

Mugnify, this was everything that year. I was rooting for another nominee, Bless The Beasts & The Children by Carpenters, also a best song nominee. Then on the Oscars show there was Isaac and a whole stage full of musicians and OMG I knew right then this was going to be it. And it was. I didn’t check if that video is on KZbin but it’s magnificent, in my memory. I’m also going to make a coffee purchase for two more Tori Holub songs that dropped this past weekend. One is a lovely ballad that she just sings her heart out in. The other is a big production with her new collaborator Jim Wilkas. They recreate the Carpenters “We’ve Only Just Begun.” It’s in the style of a Leonid & Friends video only more so. Tori is “Karen” and Jim is “Richard.” The musicians and background vocals are all on screen in the production. I teased you with The Medley now we are going full in. Joe Something To Believe In (an original song, arranged for Tori) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIK4g5Wgns90mKssi=nKba7g0ZUDtoObPL We’ve Only Just Begun kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGqYnZmAptRsjLssi=YRZzwrCsKa9FtjT0 .
