Installing a SoundCar Decoder into a Blackstone Models Refrigerator Car

The first release of Blackstone Models HOn3 D&RGW 30-Foot Refrigerator Cars features a SoundCar-ready design for the easy addition of rolling stock sounds to the model. The design includes a built-in housing for a 35mm x 16mm speaker, and openings in the underbody for the sound and wires. In this video, Ken Patterson shows how to install the SoundCar decoder into the model, as well as how to modify centering springs to use as track pickup wipers. He also installed an optional CurrentKeeper in the model to ensure continuous operation of the decoder during brief power interruptions.

Now this is neat but I was thinking the sound would have been a mechanical reefer sound and not the rail joints clacking. Still this is a pretty neat detail.

The SoundCar has Generators: Adjustable for reefers and passenger cars and rail joints as well as other sounds for railcars.

I was planning on 3D print out a couple Amtrak Budd Metroliner Cab Control Cars. Can it use this type of speaker?

We don't know the exact size limitations of this model, but the speaker should work. Our 35 x 16mm speaker fits in narrow hood diesel models. How does it not short with the metal axles

yes but if the axels are metal and the wheels touch the metal, wouldnt it cause a short

the wheels are insulated from the metal axles - you can just see the insulator where the axle joins the wheels.
