Source Audio ZIO Analog Bass Preamp + DI

The ZIO Analog Bass Preamp + DI is an ultra-low noise, all-analog tone shaping tool voiced specifically for bass.
Bass ZIO offers an expansive range of tonal options in a compact housing with an intuitive set of controls. This first-
rate preamp/DI was a collaborative between Source Audio engineer Jesse Remignanti and Christopher Venter of
SHOE Pedals (creator of the DOD Looking Glass and the SHOE Savior Machine).
The pedal also includes three outputs that can be used individually or simultaneously. The 1⁄4” OUTPUT jack connects
to an amplifier or pedalboard. The DIRECT OUT is a balanced XLR output with a ground LIFT switch. The XLR Out
brings amplifier character when connected directly to a mixer or audio interface for recording or live sound
applications. The HEADPHONE jack features a high dynamic range, low-noise amplifier that is capable of driving low
impedance studio headphones.

Thanx 4 the review, sounds really clean and can add just a touch of dirt. In my opinion, this is a good choice for the versatile bassist that wants safe usable tones no matter how extreme you get with the settings. Just a heads up if you didn't notice, but I think your Gibson EB2D (red) bass needs a pickup tweak as the E string seems to have about a 15-20% signal difference compared to the A string which really pops out. cheers !

I’m at a loss with that Gibson Midtown. I’ve tried everything I can realistically think of to solve that problem (other than change the strings of course because, you know, bass). Hopefully I’ll figure it out at some point. At least the other three strings sound great

This might replace my MXR M81 preamp. The grit is just right and the HPF and headphone amp are appreciated. The mxr can be phantom powered which makes it my favorite grab and go pedal

Wow, i had not heard of this preamp before today. Nearly all if the settings to me soubd great. The dirt sounds just right. Ive been looking recently to replace my Aguilar Tone Hammer DI. Clean tones are fone, but Ive wanted a preamp for a long time that could also do mild overdrive but I never liked the sound of the AGS overdrive. Same deal with the VT Bass DI and EBS Microbass II. This might do the trick.

Waste the headphone control how do you use it? Seems like at the end of chain except it has no stereo input so headphones are no good there, or at the beginning to drive other pedals but you can't hear the other effects through headphone if placed first. I have no idea what this is supposed to be? Why the headphone out, or why the di? Just the have a direct signal? There are better ways to do that.

It's a preamp. It goes before a power amp. Live you could also go ampless or use the amp for monitoring and send the DI to FoH. Use headphones for quiet practicing.
