Cast your memories back to the Tower of Heaven arc. When Lucy, Erza and Natsu were bound with those "neko tubes" they became unable to use their magic. If not even Erza could overcome that magic sealing, there's no chance Semas could, meaning that the moment the first loop caught around him without bouncing he was done for. He just kept spinning a few seconds longer due to momentum, but his magic was already sealed.

Rufus' magic is probably one of the most powerful in the series. It does have one big weakness (which is shown later on in the arc of course, but you can actually figure it out just looking at any of his fights, it isn't that hard to notice), but other than that it's extremely efficient. The raw power of a type of magic doesn't really matter THAT much, since your offensive power is defined more by your own magic capacity than the kind of magic you use (Just look at Erza or Bacchus for example, both have relatively basic spells, but are very strong regardless.) So utility is the main factor for how good a spell is, and Memory Make might just be the type of magic that lets you do the biggest array of things.

Iván believed because he is the father of laxus he was going to trust him with a secret from fairy TAIL just like that... How wrong he was first because laxus doesn't know since he has not been a teacher and second because laxus's redemption is real after his banishment and the love and respect he owes to makarov because that old man to whom he has had the pants to show his face for everything loves and admires him. This is very nostalgic and I love his reaction and I am right, you know that he That they name *lumine story" is to sow doubt but that will be discussed in more depth in an arc that will leave us with a lot of sadness...
