Best version of this march. Repeating this all over again... And also played this music on my Moving Up Ceremonies in my School. Greetings from the Philippines!

Prachtige muziek die ik, toen nog piepjong, quasi elke dag beluisterde net voor het nieuws op radiodistributie om 19u00. Dankzij Henri G. teruggevonden (waarvoor dank).

Listened to this march until i was 15 years old, it's still used now as the news intro for Radio Colonia (Uruguay/Argentina) since around 1937.

The masterstroke is the main theme appearing softly after the "dogfight" decorated with piccolos, then repeated fortissimo. Actually the whole work is a masterstroke from beginning to end

I heard that the piccolo part was written for the piccolo in Db (which was common in bands at the time,) so that when it's played, the part is written in G major (instead of Ab major.) This would make sense as the piccolo solo would be easier to play if it was in G major instead of Ab major. Has anyone ever heard a similar story...?
@TheodoreBrown31411 ай бұрын
I think most Sousa marches were written for Db Piccolo for that exact reason. Quite a few Grainger pieces were the exact same as well, although I think that Db Piccolos never quite caught on in the same way that A Clarinets did

@@fettisilver4312because the ContraAlto horns are already on it, least we forget the Sousa utilities of Strauss. Horns, Piccolos, Flutes, And Clarinets held together by aggressive brass (Trumpets and Bones) used in manner of strings.

Nice just wish the music was in the same key as the score but kudos to you anyhow
@razor60204 жыл бұрын
It is. It starts in key of Eb then at the trio it adds a flat to then key of Ab. Every march adds a flat at the trio. If you didnt know this score is in concert pitch so maybe you play an instrument that isnt in concert pitch
@littlewishy64324 жыл бұрын
@Razor Or maybe there’s a score for full orchestra in the key of D-G.
@WolfgangXP65-672 жыл бұрын
@@razor6020 Henderson field actually goes to it's major counter part at the trio. Never do they add a flat.
