Has a research station and supply depo for the research station in Antarctica. Thats one of the only few things ANC was happy to stay away from hence its still functional

From the sounds of it, the mice had eaten everything else. Pesticides don't affect plants. And I think the government is hoping that either the mice eat up all the pellets before the Spring breeding season (when the birds return) or what pellets are left will wash away into the ground with the winter storms. If everything goes according to plan, it should be a reasonably safe way of at least reducing the mouse population very significantly. If the weather stays dry and birds find and eat any leftover pellets, it's a shame they will be casualties - however, at present, the number of casualties due to mouse predation is much, much higher.

Basic science knowledge supports what you have termed "ludicrous". Animals are not like human beings that can breed throughout the year, seasons matter! If mice breeds in summer and that summer becomes longer due to climate change, then expect longer breeding periods!

I have a friend who was on Marion Island & he was a hunter for rats, mice & cats. I remember hearing that they had exterminated ALL predators which affected the birds. So how is it the mice are now back?? With this action it will wipe out everything including the birds SA is trying to protect.
