I wondered at the wisdom of firing John Plumtree. He coached very successfully in SA and being familiar with the country and could have better prepared and steadied the ABs on Saturday. Secondly, the All Blacks have long followed a policy of continuation in that the assistant coach succeeds the head coach which worked for years and I wondered why we don't do the same but I think that policy has run its course as the All Blacks have stagnated under the system of different coaches but same coaching style. Hopefully they will get things sorted soon as a strong All Blacks team is a necessity in world rugby.

The problem with the All Blacks starts right at the top. I think the review needs to look at Mark Robinson appointment as CEO, the decision to walk away from South Africa and Argentina involvement in Super Rugby, and the general decline in the rugby standards in the country. Then we can look at Ian Foster role and responsibility as head coach. It’s seems bizarre to me if don’t start all the way at the top when looking at what’s gone wrong.

Surprised by all the panic stations. Yes, ABs don't usually lose. They had a dominant 2011-2019 so it is unfamiliar to see them lose as regularly but it is impossible to be dominant forever. They'll be back in a year or two, then back to dominating for 4-5 years. Only wish the Boks could be that consistently unstoppable!
@ryanway93462 жыл бұрын
The domination was longer than just 11-19', but that's not the problem we have... This coaching staff and current team have broken record upon record over the past couple years and not the right kind... They haven't tried changing anything, including picking the same team and using the same tactics..... In past couple years; we have our first loss to Ireland away, then first loss at home to them, then into the first series loss to them, first series loss in NZ in 40-50 years and only 3rd time in our history... biggest loss to SA in 94years, our worst test ranking in history, now lost 5 of last 6 tests now- which I'm pretty sure has never happened before (if it has it would have been more than 50+ years ago) we drew and lost to Aussie last year in the 3 rugby championship games we played against them and the first ever loss to Argentina... There are plenty more terrible records there I'm just getting tired of writing them hahaha. By far the worst all blacks team possibly ever..... The crazy thing is, I believe we still have the best depth of players, we simply have no tactics, no defense and the team selection is based on loyalty -they just pick the same out-of-form old guys, simply because they've always been there. Our best fullback is on the bench or the wing and arguably our best first five eight is on the bench.... Two key positions filled with dudes simply because their last name is Barrett and that's it... Not to mention half our forwards are picked based off this loyalty crap, rather than form, youth and hunger.. Ah well, if we are not gonna try to change, we cannot expect a different result... I see us as around the 6th best team now - behind SA, Ireland, France, England, possibly Wales/Aussie (will have to wait and see how we play v Aus to judge that) and that's all one year to a world cup. It would be the biggest miracle for us to make any kind of splash at the world cup, we are destined for a quarter final exit at this stage... Wouldn't worry about us, Ireland, England, France much more dangers for you Saffas

NZ Rugby made their bed now they must lie in it. NZ Rugby kicked us out our Super Rugby not the other way around. We took our teams and our broadcast revenue and went to Europe. Its for the best. SR revenue was being unfairly split anyway. We had 60% of the viewership of SR since 1996, but only got 33% of the revenue from the broadcast deal. So South Africans, by paying for Dstv actually bankrolled NZ and Aus rugby from 96 till COVID hit. NZ rugby thought they were being clever when they booted us out and wanted to go it alone. Now they dominate SRP. Aus and Pacific teams are cannon fodder. This means NZ teams win almost very game, thus weakening their domestic game. I for one and delighted to see NZ Rugby fall from grace. For far too long they have been the darlings of World Rugby that could do no wrong despite the cheating of their players. They got away with wins and murder for decades. They deserve everything they are currently getting.

I’m an SA supporter. I’ve watched a number of these reviews of the AB’s performance. What I’ve not seen is a discussion on whether the absence of the SA franchises from Super Rugby contributed to the current AB squad being unprepared for the direct, confrontational and abrasive style of rugby played by SA teams. There is much to say for the idea that had the SA franchises remained in Super Rugby, the current crop of AB players would have grown accustomed to the SA style of rugby and have adapted to it. Methinks.

Rieko Ioane I know most here will cringe at seeing Braydon in midfield but I think this midfield combo between him and Havili can be “the future”. Braydon Ennor has a great rugby brain and I look at him as a more calm and traditional 13.

Landscape of modern day Rugby is that all of the top 10 teams are going to be beating each other interchangeably. The standard is just that good. Maybe not what the kiwis are used to but the sky isn’t falling there in my opinion. It just means a few tweaks (even playing at home) or time together as a squad and they are right there. Its fine lines and shows just how good Rugby is across the board these days. Then again, if your tactics aren’t right its a long day against a team like the boks

Times change in sport, for years NZ led the way, they reinvented the game time after time, but world rugby is just that, world rugby, the best coaches in the world move between nations, Shaun Edwards went from Wales to France, and has made them better, an Aussie coaches England, he sets the play. Eddie Jones has a good handle on results over performance, over building. If the All Blacks won the world cup, nobody would be surprised.

As a Bok fan I would still fear this AB team, the difference here is that they were sucked into playing a defensive game by being on the back foot in their own half. The ABs definitely have the man power and flair to beat any team on any day, I just feel that it was a poor execution or lack of execution of a game plan. As soon as the ABs start getting ball from broken play and swinging it through the hands, any team is in trouble. The North seem to write them off already, if the ABs get 1 or 2 good results then all of a sudden you will be facing a confident AB team and we all know how tough that can be to beat.

Oh c'mon Beating the world champions in thero own stadium where they've never lost isnt exactly easy. S.A. played an almost perfect game. The ABs looked like a team playing its first game travelling away. Just like Ireland looked a bit off on the 1st test. I think this next one will be a truer indicator. It will be either close (within a penalty) or S.A. will blow out. This one could easily have been 30 40 points to nil. Have faith!

In NZ players are picked at a young age in representative / development sides solely on the fact they have a physical advantage over the other kids. You hear it said in NZ rugby for the last 20 years "how good will that kid be when he plays people his own size and pace?", "can he play under pressure?', "is he able to learn / improve?", "can he play in a team and do his job well and not play as an individual?'. Selectors in NZ love kids aged 16 6ft 3 tall and 120kgs in size. Difficulity is picking the big kids is a short term gain if the tournament is in 6 weeks. NZ rugby needs to develop players that are not using a physical advantage to be very good in their position and give them a pathway so that when they are big enough we have players with game sense and the ability to understand their role within a team. Also our coach , captain , and rugby board sux

A perspective from England. The Boks were much the better side and their game plan didn’t need to be incredibly complex - to me, it was based upon simply “pressurise the ABs with aggressive defence and chase-able kicks”. I saw no plan from ABs to counteract that. Of course, the Boks will always be big men, aggressive and focussed; nothing is ever different about that. Number one is to get parity in the sets and the rucks - you might not be able to dominate the scrum or pinch much line out ball - but you have to secure your own; you have to resource the rucks so that, it might be slow ball on occasion but it’s not lost ball. None of that is any surprise - any startling revelation - to a rugby fan or player. Resolving it comes down to the coaching team and the leadership group of players to come up with the right game plan and stick to it. If it’s the right game plan, then don’t panic and throw it away; stick to it until the coach says “time to go to plan B”. Personally, I don’t think the Boks will play differently next week, next month or next year. Why should they? The beat England at the RWC by being the Boks and England didn’t have the right plan to negate them. Have the ABs got the right players? I can’t say because i don’t see enough NZ rugby now to offer opinions - but it would be incredible to me to think that NZ have suddenly become bereft of sufficient numbers of quality players. What game plan should the ABs have? I was a reasonable club player and never have been a coach but my instinct is parity up front and then kick to corners in order to move the big guys around; the backs should be a combination of getting it out wide very quickly and/or kick behind the line of backs so that the Boks have to turn and go back. So much easier said than done but top class players should be able to do it.

in nz we pick big kids in rep teams that cant match up when they play their physical equal and need to be smart or play as a team
@theofarmmanager2672 жыл бұрын
@@gavinchester6890 that’s clearly an issue that the NZ RFU need to pick up on. Good rugby is that combination of brawn and brain used well; you don’t want one without another. I was never the biggest prop (157cm and 105kgs) but as I got older, my diminishing brawn was made up with more brain.
@gavinchester68902 жыл бұрын
@@theofarmmanager267 it gets tricky in NZ as it is seen as a race thing , all the big kids have some Pacific Island descent and the white kids who are actually better players but smaller are missing out, until we address this for what it is we diminish out stock of potential AB's, also we need to get a team in the English club comp called the kiwis, would add some spice and interest I think, maybe we start in the second division or be told we can only have 10 kiwis in the starting 15 of each match, the nzrfu needs to compromise on such points or globalisation and the matter pommy pound will take lots of our best 22 yr old players away from us, playing for the AB's ranked 7 in the world or taking a 1 million a yr pound contract and setting yourself up for life in 8-10 years, well, the nzrfu needs to let players play overseas and the AB's, but, we need to restrict the exodus of coaches to international sides, place in their contracts they can not leave and coach an international side for 5 years after having coached a super rugby team,
@theofarmmanager2672 жыл бұрын
@@gavinchester6890 thanks for that Gavin. A lot to take in. I can’t comment on the race thing as I would have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. I can see that the NZRFU, being relatively poor compared to France, Ireland and England, have to put rules in place to slow/stop an exodus of players and coaches but there is “restraint of trade” whereby any clause in a comment no matter previously signed which would be seen as restraining someone from earning a living elsewhere is automatically unfair (and therefore illegal). There is also an issue with forbidding someone to earn a living playing or coaching a competitor; that also has to be treated quite carefully as I had a clause in an employment contract which sought to forbid me working for a competitor for 2 years; I challenged it and won. . I would guess NZ has something similar. So, you can say no overseas players for the ABs because that’s not restraining their ability to earn a living but it’s very hard to forbid someone to do something after their employment with you has ended. One of the joys of rugby is that body size isn’t the be-all-and-end-all. There is room for the fatties and the girls in the backs at the lower levels. How you ensure that all sizes get equal opportunities is another argument.
@gavinchester68902 жыл бұрын
@@theofarmmanager267 Ok.Just for the record players and supporters of Pacific Island decent are great. Great as people, great as community. They bring a sense of family with them.
