I remember this match so very well as an 18 year old in Jamaica. We were all convince that the Windies were going to lose a test series for the first time in decades. And then along comes Ambrose and Walsh to the rescue. Wonderful memories. Hit the like button if you remember watching this match on the last day.

Fantastic pair man..........which is why I said that the previous generation was better than this one. You have seen Walsh ad Ambrose make batsmen in the 90s who went on to become legends in the 2000s struggle badly.

Was too young for this but i had always heard my parents talk about it: the Bajan boycott, the 90 something runs an all white SA team( nothing is wrong with an all white SA team but the optics were contreversial as Apartheid legislatively had not ended) with 8 wickets in handagainst a team that was the embodiment of apartheid's repudiation. And Walsh and Ambrose blew SA away. Allan Donald used to say that Ambrose destroyed attacks when it mattered, when everything was on the line.

There is some serious historical revisionism going on in this video that needs to be called out. There was no "rebuilding" of cricketing ties between old foes "renewing" hostilities. This was the FIRST test match between these two nations. The introduction shows Jamaican supporters not protesting against SA's reintroduction into cricket, and Adam Bacher insisting that this is a good thing, and a sign that South Africa has successfully left "apartheid" behind. Again, paints the wrong impression that perhaps South Africa couldn't play the West Indies earlier because their supporters objected to something called "apartheid" that SA practiced earlier, but that's all in the past, so it's all good now. Let's get to the cricket. It was South Africa's choice, under the apartheid regime, to not play any team that wasn't 100% white. This is what the word "apartheid" means. It's ok to demonize a word, and then attempt to move on past the uncomfortable bits, but in the interest of not repeating history, it's meaning must not be forgotten.

I remember it well ...I was on tour in Barbados at the time ...watched all but the last day at the oval ...but ...what's not commonly known is tgat the night before the last day the SA cricket team inc coaches were at the harbour lights nightclub ....some remained drinking with us until the wee hours ...not taking anything away from Courtney or Curtley ...but it was a shameful display of arrogance by the SA team ...who were great fun btw
