With the current combat effectiveness state of our Gripen fleet, would it not make more sense to rather purchase more of such aircraft and weaponise them for a ground attack role, and to rather expand our SAM capability to offer an interception/defence solution? You could get three Hawks for the price of one Gripen...

Not really 1 Gripen can carry more than what 5 hawks can carry so while you can buy 3 hawks for 1 Gripen your not getting the same things,all of the things of the gripens not being used and maintained is kak they are just trying to get more money from the government to blow on buying new cars.

Jared Kruger indeed gripen is one of the badass multirole fighters out there. wouldn’t opt for anything else just on the bases of a lesser price. if only we had enough defence spending.

lxole 2020 defence budget is ment to be increased quite drastically due to our next major rearmement i just hope we dont sell all our gripens and rather increase the fleet size to 50 with the new gripen E

Almost like the 155 the 120 has a box shape above the drag chute with two tail lights the 155 only has one tail light and no box shape above the drag chute. 155 used in Canada as a NATO Training jet now plagued with engine issues.

SAAF actually got these aircraft at a very good price, and they created jobs for about 3 years because they were locally built. The South African government specified that the mandate of the SANDF is to defend South Africas boarders, and as such ordered that they order equipment that will be used for solely defense of our country and deemed ARVs to have too much of an aggressive stance. This is also why our frigates do not have any cruise missiles.

There's oliterally an ISIS extremist insurgency in our neighboring country. the milutary is drastically underfunded. it provides a hell of a lot of jobs when you factor in service personnel, maintenance, and the industry that supplies them. it should pribably be slightly increased in size to 100,000 troops and funded more. It will boost the economy. besides, Eskom is getting dismantled now. Private electricity suppliers are starting to plan investments and co9sntruction. including new nuclear reactors and other sources. now that Zuma and his cronies are getting their asses whooped, things can finally start improving again.
