South African knife carry law or at least my interpretation of the vague laws that we have here in South Africa.
This is an explanation video as I understand it. Please keep in mind that I am not a lawyer and nothing I say can ever be seen as correct or in most cases even relevant in society.

Really enjoyed this video, I'm now 31 years old and been carrying a knife on me every day of my life since I was about 15 or 16 years old, I was taught by my father from the age of 8 how to work with knives as tools like intended for some of them, and then how to use them in self defense situations from about the age of 11 or 12 years old. With carrying a knife comes a huge responsibility... I apparently look like a dodgey dude, and have been stopped and searched by Saps multiple times carrying a knife, sometimes my really big one, before the search I declared I was carrying and I never once got into trouble for it

Wasn't aware that they had changed the act recently. Thank you for posting. I was aware of the 10cm rule, but now just because you can carry a larger knife, doesn't mean you should. Knives scare a lot of people. Big knives scare more people. I've had a colleague ask me if I'm a gangster after he saw me use my Swiss army knife to cut a square piece of paper to make a label for a water sampling bottle while we were in the bush for work. I found that funny, especially since the knife was used purely as a tool, but it's a reminder that ALL knives to some people are scary and have negative thoughts attached to it

Thanks my bru, walking home from school most days and I think it would be cool to have a knife (even though I know running is option no. 1, if that fails well I would probably be 1% safer with a knife than without). Though I assume I will have to keep it in my bag when at school.(large gathering thing). I have also gotten into forging recently and a proper knife would be a great project. Thanks for clearing things up about the knife laws.

I'm thinking of swopping out my Rambo knife that I carry for a Pepper Spray instead for 2 reasons, one is yes it's a big f*cking knife, it's not easy to walk around with the thing especially with the laws, 2 yes as much as it's meant for personal protection.. it's a close range weapon which will get me in range to get cut as well.. so Pepper Spray it is for me from now, please kindly cover a video about Laws on Baton Sticks, it's a good tool to carry but Laws are binding

It's scary how easy one can get an okapi, literally in any pakistani shop they are being sold and every time I purchase anything there and I look up and glance at the okapi packet it's always less than 3 knives left.. that's the scary part.

@@HollywoodTacticool So this side we have what we call Spaza Shops where you can go buy household items and cigarettes all the small stuff you need daily, each and every neighborhood has one on maybe every 3rd street corner, in the cities CBD there's one every turn. Very very easy to get a knife this side, not much knife related crimes as compared to places I've seen on KZbin like London.. but the capacity of crimes differs from place to place.

I just wanted some clarity about what self defence is in terms of knife laws. If I was getting robbed and the robbers take out a knife and say if I retaliate they will kill me ,and I responded to the threat by using my knife .would that be considered as self defence, I ask because my life was threatened in the moment but no actual physical harm was done .

Good day Just 2 quick questions I was told something about a dangerous weapons act of 2019 but when I googled it dangerous weapons act of 2021 poped up Can u explain what those are or if they are even south African laws? And another thing is I carry a knife for self defense purposes. The knife has a plastic sheath The knife is 12cm long from the start of the blade And is outside the waist band carry Am I carrying legally or should I start looking to buy a new knife?? I'm sorry I just keep on getting told different things 😅😅

Hi. The South African knife laws are really gray. If you use it for work or you have a legit reason to carry it apart from self defense. It is legal. But if you are carrying a knife and you have no reason. The police will hassle you. So rather carry it so it is not to showey.
