I am so sorry for your loss! No words can help much. I am a Vietnam War veteran who served also during Desert Storm. I thought many times about what my family would do if something happened to me. You illustrate what I now know, that life goes on due to our spouses and families. I am so sorry for your loss but I honor your husband, your brother and of course you!! Hand Salute!

For sure, Thank you. I ETS'd in Aug of 01. When I enlisted we were firmly entrenched in that post Cold War peace. Anyone who joined after 9/11 knew they could and probably would be in harms way at some point. I don't think the Millennials get enough recognition for that. Not all of you were the manbun, soy latte, pronoun crowd.

My grandfather was in the Navy in WW1, my father (too young at the time for the Navy) lied about his age and was in the Merchant Marines in WW2, and my uncle was in the Navy during Korea. When Vietnam rolled around my male cousins were still in high school, and then my family started producing girls😊, but I currently live across the street from NAS Oceana. Go Navy. I'm third generation of 4 service people in our family. My grandfather was in the Army in WWI. Injured by mustard gas. His chest was a mess. My Dad was in the Navy during WWII. I was lucky, I was in the USAF during the Cold War. Never saw action. I worked for the Navy for 25 years after I got out. My oldest was in the Army after he floundered around a bit. REALLY straightened him out.

I remember the soft touch of my daughter's cheek on mine and the butterfly kisses and the yearning to have that again drove me. That was harder than the combat for me. That touch on my cheek from my little girl as she grew up more away from me. I still after 40 years still feel it today even though she is grown and is a mother herself.

You're probably the best reaction ive seen to this song. Ive come from a long military family. Ive a great great uncle who served with Teddy Roosevelt and The Rough Riders, my Grandfather served in the Korean War. I had an uncle in Vietnam. 2 of my brothers were Marines and 1 was Airforce. When i turned 18 i tried to do Army. I got a great score on my ASVAB, unfortunately i couldnt pass my physical due to health reasons so i was unable to join. It hurt me to this day to know that i wasnt able to serve my country. But im so thankful to the men and women who can. This song always gets to me

I am a Desert Storm Veteran, and I carry all the pride in being an American even though my ancestors were European migrants, to me - being an American isn't just for someone from the "Americas" It is for anyone around the world who stands for freedom - liberty - justice and people who enrich themselves by living with the right morals - ethics and holding themselves to a higher standard - being true to your word. I consider myself "oldschool" American, my grandparents were born in the 1800s and i came up with their belief system, it didn't matter where you were from - if you called this soil Home, you were willing to fight and die for it - no questions asked, the way it was looked at was, ( that if i die defending my Country, fighting to protect my brothers with me, protecting the wife and kids...that means that someone else's father - husband - son or brother might live and carry on, then so be it) there was no holding back - I will never kneel or yield, My Flag will NEVER touch the ground, as long as there is a breath in me - I will stand up for weak and the poor, the less fortunate, the beaten down...anyone who needs help - it's just how i was made... The United States is an experiment, United We Stand - Divided We Fall is the only way it will work, and that goes for all of us around the world. Being an American is a state of mind. Under the Heavens We are all One...

So then I’ll start Hi Jeff I’m Shawn, How are you. Today was the first good day I’ve had in a while. Life has really been hard lately it’s been one knock back after another. My wife was diagnosed with a condition where the back of her skull didn’t grow enough room for her brain and it’s being forced down in to her spinal column. Most days she can’t get out of bed bc of the headaches. We have 2 little girls that don’t understand why mommy can’t play with them anymore and I know they can hear her crying in the bedroom. Work hasn’t been going very well and the bills are starting to stack up. Today we ate dinner together as a family. That’s something we did every night, and we don’t get to do much anymore. Today was a good day for me. What does a good day look like for you?

I'm 6th generation military but one of things I'm most proud of is my son(Army) and daughter (Navy) are our 7th generation. Would've been proud of them no matter what they decided to do with their life but being at their basic graduation and watching them salute was something that I just don't have the words to describe. If you’re interested in more American patriotic music, I HIGHLY recommend “God Bless the USA” - originally from Lee Greenwood, but also a really beautiful cover by Home Free. The Home Free version actually features a bunch of extremely talented service people And then “Where Were You” by Alan Jackson. I’ve heard the other Toby Keith song is very “fk around and find out” - and Alan Jackson’s post-9/11 song is more of giving our nation a hug ❤🇺🇸

As an old fourth generation vet, with TBI and PTSD, existing under a VA program for homeless vets, I will say he is was an amazing patriot that loved us vets. Salute to my brother and sister veterans! May you be finding peace with the war within and honor in the oath that never dies. As for all who haven't served, remember that every freedom the government tries to take from you in protection from what they nost likely created in the first place, that someone died for you to have that freedom and the cost could be easily as much to get it back. Also, veterans don't swear an oath to the government, to a party or to a president ( even though he is the commander) they swear and oath to the people, to the protection of the constitution. Just saying.

Nearly every generation of my family has served in the military. The generation that I respect the most is the one that served in Vietnam. How my country (the US) treated them was a disgrace. My Grandfather and Great Uncle served in 'Nam. So every time I see 'Nam vet I make the time to thank them.

I served for 42 years between the Army and the Marine Corps until I hit the mandatory retirement age. One memory I'll always have is coming home after my first tour of Iraq. My unit basically took over the E-Club on our second night home. The place was having Karaoke night and someone requested this song. One by one we all stood up, went onto the dance floor and started singing this song. We were all standing together, arms around the shoulders of the people next to us, swaying and singing this song, all brothers and sisters in arms. Good memories.

I served in the Navy, I hated that you couldn’t call in sick 😂 I joined because of Desert Storm. My aunt and uncle were stuck hiding in Kuwait. I felt helpless so I signed up. I was 33, my youngest child was 10. My husband had really my back. 🥰

Another American Patriotic song is from: Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ RED WHITE AND BLUE ~ LIVE @ FREEDOM HALL. (Music Video). The whole song is very, very good, BUT their last lyrics are ABSOLUTELY, 100% TRUE!!
